  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare the difference of Lumbar Lordosis Angle(LLA) between patients with Low Back Pain(LBP) and control groups. Methods: Questionnaires were completed by 40 adult LBP patients seeking physical therapy services and by 40 controls at the Department of Physical Therapy. Saejong Neurosurgical Clinic in Taegu city from October 1999 to March 2000. LLA was measured on lateral x-ray films in a standing position. The angle between a line parallel to the top of the first Lumbar(L1) and the top of the fifth Lumbar(L5) was defined LLA. Results: LLA of $29.88^{\circ}$ for LBP patients was a statistically significant decrease from that of $35.31^{\circ}$ for controls in the difference of lumbar lordosis(p<0.01). There were statistically significant differences between senders in patient groups. Females$(32.32^{\circ})$ had significantly greater angles than males$(27.32^{\circ})$(p<0.05), while $36.63^{\curc}$ for female was also greater than $34.12^{\circ}$ for male in the controls. No significant difference was found between age. In patient groups, $27.95^{\circ}$ for below age 40 was a smaller than $32.32^{\circ}$ for above, however, $35.82^{\circ}$ for below age 40 was a little greater than $34.27^{\circ}$ for above in controls. Patients in a sitting posture had greater LLA$(31.35^{\circ}$ than those standing$(28.93^{\circ})$, however values for controls were similar to each other. Conclusion: Results from this study indicate that distinct differences exist among patients and controls and gender, whereas little difference exists in age and working posture.

  • Previous studies have indicated that incidence of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is partly related to the damage of antioxidant systems, but etiology of RA is not fully identified. This study was performed to evaluate nutrient intakes including antioxidants, health related behaviors and food habits of RA patients and controls. RA patient group (n = 68) and sex-matched healthy controls (n = 68) were joined in this study. Nutrient intake was estimated using a semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire. As mean age of RA ($52.9{\pm}13.8$ years) was significantly higher than those of controls ($48.7{\mp}5.9$ years), data were analyzed by using Student's t-test, adjusted for age. There was no significant difference between two groups in body mass index. Compared with those of controls, frequencies of drinking (p < 0.001) and coffee consumption (p < 0.05) of RA groups were lower. RA groups had lower frequencies of fruit (p < 0.01), vegetable (p < 0.05) and fatty meat (p < 0.05) consumptions and balanced diet (p < 0.01), and higher frequencies of fried dishes (p < 0.01), and salty dishes (p < 0.01), compared to controls. The most nutrient intakes including energy intake of RA were tended to be lower than those of controls. Vitamin A, ${\beta}$-carotene and vitamin C intakes were significantly lower in RA than controls (p < 0.001). Daily vitamin A, ${\beta}$-carotene and vitamin C intakes of RA were lower than those of control (vitamin A: RA $360.6{\pm}252.23{\mu}g$ RE, control $844.5{\pm}426.2{\mu}g$ RE, p < 0.001; ${\beta}$-carotene: RA $1450.9{\pm}1019.0{\mu}g$, control $3968.8{\pm}2248.21{\mu}g$, p < 0.001; vitamin C; RA $40.6{\pm}21.48mg$, control $84.7{\pm}40.29$, p < 0.001) These results suggest sufficient consumption of antioxidant nutrients may prevent and improve RA status.

  • We explored how 'Wonwhang' pear fruit quality was affected by selenium (Se) application. The fruit skin color and fruit type differed between Se-treated trees and controls. Se-treated fruits had higher potassium and Se concentrations, more fruit soluble solids, and lower acidity, compared to the controls. All Se treatments improved fruit firmness during cold temperature storage compared to the controls. Also, Se-treated fruits had greater specific gravity and minuteness, which reduced fruit pithiness and rendered test fruits denser than the controls. Overall, Se foliar application improved fruits marketability compared to the Se fertilization or Se trunk injection.

  • Traditional tactile controls that include push buttons and rotary switches may cause significant visual and biomechanical distractions if they are located away from the driver's line of sight and hand position, for example, on the central console. Gestural controls, as an alternative to traditional controls, are natural and can reduce visual distractions; however, their types and numbers are limited and have no feedback. To overcome the problems, a driver interface combining gestures and visual feedback with a head-up display has been proposed recently. In this paper, we investigated the effect of this type of interface in terms of driving performance measures. Human-in-the-loop experiments were conducted using a driving simulator with the traditional tactile and the new gesture-based interfaces. The experimental results showed that the new interface caused less visual distractions, better gap control between ego and target vehicles, and better recognition of road conditions comparing to the traditional one.

  • The purpose of this study was to select an ingredient acting as a natural emulsifier to retard the retrogradation of rice cake by the measurement of mechanical characteristics of the cakes. For the purpose, Backsulgi, the most basic type of rice cake, was prepared by adding various ingredients having high contents of lecithin such as raw soybean powder, parched soybean powder, soybean oil, egg yolk powder, and the measurements and observations on the chromaticity, swelling power, pore ratio and cross-section were made. In addition, changes in the textural characteristics of Backsulgi samples were determined while storing them at the temperatures of 4$^{\circ}C$ and 20$^{\circ}C$ for 0, 1, 2 and 3 days. The results of the study were as follows: 1. In terms of chromaticity, the Backsulgi samples added with egg yolk powder, raw soybean flour and parched soybean flour were higher in yellowness(b) than the controls. 2. Both swelling power and pore ratio of Backsulgies added with raw soybean flour were higher than those of controls. 3. A cross-sectional observation using an electron microscope indicated that rice flour particles of controls had uneven pores and were conglomerated in a large lump while Backsulgi samples of raw soybean flour or roasted soybean flour had large and even pores and showed loosened bonding to be transformed into a sponge shape. 4. In hardness, Backsulgi samples added with raw soybean flour had less changes in hardness than that of controls, indicating that the effect of retarding retrogradation was higher when the storage time got longer.

  • A model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approach to implementing hardware-based network cybersecurity controls for APR1400 non-safety data network is presented in this work. The proposed design was developed by implementing packet filtering and deep packet inspection functions to control the unauthorized traffic and malicious contents. Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack was considered as a potential cybersecurity issue that may threaten the data availability and integrity of DCS gateway servers. Logical design architecture was developed to simulate the behavior of functions flow. HDL-based physical architecture was modelled and simulated using Xilinx ISE software to verify the design functionality. For effective modelling process, enhanced function flow block diagrams (EFFBDs) and schematic design based on FPGA technology were together developed and simulated to verify the performance and functional requirements of network security controls. Both logical and physical design architectures verified that hardware-based cybersecurity controls are capable to maintain the data availability and integrity. Further works focus on implementing the schematic design to an FPGA platform to accomplish the design verification and validation processes.

  • The controls of Information Systems (IS) have been an more critical issue controls as the sophistication and integration of IS is more proceeded. ITGI (The Information Technology Governance Institute) of ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association) has suggested COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and related Technology) and this has been widely recognized the evaluation model of IS controls. In COBIT, IS was evaluated in terms of process, information quality, and IT resources. This study used COBIT in order to suggest and empirically test an evaluation model of IS service. The data was collated from one major Chinese SI (Systems Integration) company in four domains of processes : planning and organization, acquisition and implementation, delivery and support, and monitoring. Seven factors are extracted using an exploratory factor analysis as follows : Overall IT planning process, technological assessment process in IT planning of IT, cost-benefit assessment process in IT planning, implementation process, support process, monitoring process, post-implementation evaluation process. The results of confirmatory analysis of three alternative measurement models indicated that the measurement model with one inherent or conceptual variable has greater model fitness than the other models. This study suggests the logical and general way to test and apply COBIT in evaluating IS services.

  • Objective : The etiology and pathogenesis of moyamoya disease remain unclear. Furthermore, the definitive diagnostic protein-biomarkers for moyamoya disease are still unknown. The present study analyzed serum proteomes from normal controls and moyamoya patients to identify novel serological biomarkers for diagnosing moyamoya disease. Methods : We compared the two-dimensional electrophoresis patterns of sera from moyamoya disease patients and normal controls and identified the differentially-expressed spots by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time-of flight mass spectrometry and electrospray ionization quadruple time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Results : We found and analyzed 22 differently-expressed proteomes. Two proteins were up-regulated. Twenty proteins were down-regulated. Complement C1 inhibitor protein and apolipoprotein C-III showed predominantly changed expressions (complement C1 inhibitor protein averaged a 7.23-fold expression in moyamoya patients as compared to controls, while apolipoprotein C-III averaged a 0.066-fold expression). Conclusion : Although our study had a small sample size, our proteomic data provide serologic clue proteins for understanding moyamoya disease.

  • Background: More than 1 million cancer survivors reside in Korea. We here investigated activity limitations of cancer survivors compared to controls without a history of cancer. Materials and Methods: Using the 4th and 5th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2007-2012) data, we identified 1,155 adult cancer survivors. Activity limitations were defined as limitation in activities of daily living, experience of lying in a sickbed, and number of days lying in a sickbed during the last month. Descriptive analysis and multiple logistic regression compared these measures for survivors and controls by sex and age groups. Results: Approximately 29.4% of cancer survivors reported limitation in activities of daily living, 14.6% experienced lying in a sickbed, and 4.3% experienced more than 15 days lying in a sickbed during the last month. After controlling for demographic and health-related factors, cancer survivors were more likely to report activity limitation than controls. The associations were similar across sex and age groups. Conclusions: Cancer survivors have increased activity limitation compared to controls and these limitations persist across sex and age. Targeted interventions and improved management are essential for improving cancer survivor daily life.

  • The role of Helicobacter pylori status and serum zinc value in gastric disease patients and healthy controls were investigated. Cases used in this work were 45 gastric cancer patients, 44 with peptic ulcers, 52 suffering gastritis and 64 healthy controls, all diagnosed histologically with the controls undergoing medical checkups. Helicobacter pylori status and serum levels of Zn were determined by 13C-urea breath test and flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer, respectively. Our study showed that Helicobacter pylori infection has no change in gastritis, peptic ulcer and gastric cancer group, on the contrast, serum levels of Zn were significantly reduced in gastritis, peptic ulcer and gastric cancer group, compared with healthy controls, and the higher the Zn levels are, the more increased risk of gastric cancer. Helicobacter pylori infection is a cause of gastritis, peptic ulcers and even gastric cancer, while serum zinc level is an indicator of protection of gastric membranes against damage.
