  • This study was conducted to investigate whether an individualized cancer patient education would increase self-care knowledge and performance. Eventually, it was to reduce side effect and promote self-care for chemotherapy. Method: This study utilized a nonequivalent control group pre-post test design. The subjects included 50 patients with cancer 25 in the experimental group, and 25 in the control group. The study was performed from January 2006 to June 2006 for the patients who were first treated by chemotherapy in a university hospital. Results: Individualized education was significantly increased in self-care knowledge and performance. Self-care knowledge and performance showed significant correlations as well. Conclusions: Individualized patient education was an effective nursing intervention in increasing self-care knowledge and performance for chemotherapy.

  • Q-Learning is a most widely used reinforcement learning, which addresses the question of how an autonomous agent can learn to choose optimal actions to achieve its goal about any one problem. Q-Learning can acquire optimal control strategies from delayed rewards, even when the agent has no prior knowledge of the effects of its action in the environment. If agent has an ability using previous knowledge, then it is expected that the agent can speed up learning by interacting with environment. We present a novel reinforcement learning method using domain knowledge, which is represented by problem-independent features and their classifiers. Here neural network are implied as knowledge classifiers. To show that an agent using domain knowledge can have better performance than the agent with standard Q-Learner. Computer simulations are ...

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of a fall prevention education on the fall-related knowledge, prevention activity of the elderly hospitalized in internal medicine department. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used for this study. A total of 44 patients of the elderly hospitalized in internal medicine department were randomly divided into the experimental group (n=22) and the control group (n=22). The experimental group received about an half hour, fall prevention education at the admission day, 3days and 5days after admission, while the control group received the usual care. The outcome variables were measured before and after fall prevention education. Data were analyzed with $x^2$-test and t-test by using SPSS 12. Results: The experimental group showed significant improvement in fall-related knowledge and prevention activity. Conclusion: The fall prevention education was effective in increasing fall-related knowledge and prevention activity of the elderly hospitalized in internal medicine department. For reducing fall events, it is important to educate the elderly hospitalized about fall-related knowledge and prevention activity related to fall.

  • Purpose: To examine the effect of a smoking prevention program on changing the knowledge and attitude toward smoking behavior of male middle school students. Method: A total of 69 male middle school students participated in this study. Each of them was assigned to either smoking prevention program (n=35) or to a control group (n=34). The intervention for the experiment group was developed by the investigator. The questionnaires for assessing knowledge and attitude were created by modifying scaled employed in previous studies. Result: 1) The experimental group with smoking prevention program showed higher scores in knowledge for smoking harmfulness in comparison with the control group (F=18.782, p=.000). 2) The experimental group with the smoking prevention program showed lower scores in attitude toward smoking behavior in comparison with the control group (F=17.483. p=.000). Conclusion: The results showed that the smoking prevention program was effective on improving knowledge and attitude toward smoking behavior in male middle school students. More studies on development of comprehensive smoking prevention programs for adolescents need to be conducted in the future.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effectiveness of a nutrition and exercise education program on weight control and nutrition knowledge. The nutrition-exercise educational period was 12 weeks. The subjects were 160 adult women with an average age of 48.1 years. We investigated general characteristics, diet history, eating habits, and intake frequencies of six food groups by survey. A total of 94 women among the subjects participated in the pre and post nutrition knowledge evaluations and anthropometric data assessment. After the program, body weight, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference significantly decreased. Further, % of body fat decreased, but not significantly. BMI significantly decreased (p<0.001) from 25.14 to $24.80kg/m^2$, and waist circumference significantly decreased (p<0.001) from 79.72 to 77.63 cm. The nutrition knowledge scores of subjects significantly increased (p<0.001) from 8.01 to 9.03. However, there was little change in employment. These results suggest that the nutrition-exercise education program may improve obesity index and nutrition knowledge. However, it is necessary to develop a specialized weight control program for workers.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of hand washing education programs on knowledge, attitude and performance of hand washing in Undergraduates. Methods: The study used a nonequivalent control group quasi-experimental design. A total of 118 students in K university in Seoul, Korea, participated in this study. 67 students were included in the experimental group and 51 students were in the control group. The experimental group was given a lecture, Educational Hand Washing Program, developed by researchers. Using a structural questionnaire, the students' perception on hand washing was measured before and after the intervention, in terms of knowledge, attitude, and performance at home and school. Results: The experimental group showed significantly higher scores in knowledge (p=.033), attitude (p<.001), and performance at home (p=.001). However, the performance at school didn't show a significant difference between the two groups (p=.063). Conclusion: The results indicate that education is effective in enhancing knowledge, attitude, and performance of hand washing.

  • World practice is evidence of that computer systems of an intellectual support of medical activities bound up with examination of patients, their diagnosis, therapy and so on are the most effective means for attainment of a high level of physician\`s qualification. Such systems must contain large knowledge bases consistent with the modern level of science and practice. To from large knowledge bases for such systems it is necessary to have a medical ontology model reflecting contemporary notions of medicine. This paper presents a description of an observation ontology, knowledge base for the physician of general tipe, architecture, functions and implementation of problem independent shell of the system for intellectual supporting patient examination and mathematical model of the dialog. The system can be used by the following specialist: therapeutist, surgeon, gynecologist, urologist, otolaryngologist, ophthalmologist, endocrinologist, neuropathologist and immunologist. The system supports a high level of examination of patients, delivers doctors from routine work upon filling in case records and also automatically forms a computer archives of case records. The archives can be used for any statistical data processing, for producing accounts and also for debugging of knowledge bases of expert systems. Besides that, the system can be used for rise of medical education level of students, doctors in internship, staff physicians and postgraduate students.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of organ donation education on undergraduate students' knowledge, attitude and practice will to organ donation. Methods: The study used a quasi-experimental design. A total of 164 students from K university, Seoul, Korea were recruited; 74 in the experimental group and 90 in the control group. The experimental group received an education on organ donation developed by researchers. A structured questionnaire was used to measure the student's knowledge, attitude and practice will to organ donation before and after the education. Data were analyzed using t-test, ${\chi}^2$-test, and ANCOVA with SPSS WIN 21.0 program. Results: After the intervention, we found that the scores of knowledge, knowledge of the definition of brain death, donation attitude, total scores of attitude, emotional attitude, and behavioral attitude were significantly higher in the experimental group than the those of control group. Total knowledge scores were positively correlated with subscales of the knowledge scale and all subscales of attitude toward organ donation. Conclusion: The results indicate that organ donation education is effective to enhance knowledge and attitude to organ donation in undergraduate students.

  • In this paper, Controlled Knowledge Base(CKB) type fuzzy learning controller for force/servo control system was proposed and the application for them was also studied. To achieve them, we derive fuzzy set from expert knowledges and reson the appropriate control gains by parameter estimation of object. Then, we proved it by computer simulation that we can reduce the ambigious effect, which is not able to be estimated, by designing the controller based on CKB.
