현대 패션에 나타난 '느림'의 패러다임 (Fashion Paradigm of 'Slowness' on Contemporary Fashion)

  • The purpose of this study is to consider the characteristics of fashion paradigm on contemporary fashion in pursuit of social change towards 'slowness'. As for the research methodology, literature survey has been undertaken. The results of this study can be summarized as followings. First, eco-friendly ethics towards sustainability is in taking action. The concept of 'cradle-to-cradle' is realized through reuse, recycle, organic material, and no use of chemical. Second, local diversity is revolving quality and longevity. Good quality of fashion made by artisans and specificity in local area is to be kept last. Third, people are recast in roles from simple consumers to self-made producers of their clothes. Users of clothes are more active and skilled role in practice of handmade, reform, DIY, and open-source design. In Conclusion, the fashion paradigm of 'slowness' is about designing, producing, consuming and living better to combine ideas for sense of nature's time, culture's time and people's time.

Limits of Multicultural Imagination and the Anti-Refugee Controversy in Contemporary China

  • On the World Refugee Day in 2017, Yao Chen, a Chinese actress, philanthropist, and social media influencer, posted messages in her Weibo in support of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR). Yet, social media users quickly interpreted this supportive message of the refugee program as encouraging people to "accept and receive refugees" (jieshou nanmin) into China. Particularly, the category of Middle Eastern refugees elicited most criticism in China's cyberspace. As the inclusion of refugees is an integral part of immigrant multiculturalism, this article examines the limits of multicultural imagination of refugees―particularly those from the Middle Eastern and North Africa―in contemporary China. I argue that the limits of multicultural imagination in contemporary China is profoundly shaped by an intricate interweaving of domestic policies and global imaginaries toward refugees. By deploying a mixed methodology, such limits are examined from legal-institutional, ideological, and sociocultural perspectives. More specifically, three interrelated aspects will be highlighted in the article: (1) the global circulation of right-wing populism imaginaries, and their entanglements with the anti-Muslim sentiments in contemporary China; (2) the current insufficiency of the legal-institutional framework regarding refugees and asylum-seekers, which needs to be contextualized in China's modern history of dealing with refugee issues; (3) population politics, the rise of Han-centric nationalism, and their constraining impact on the interpretation of historical events related to cultural diversity. In conclusion, this article also offers potential implications for further examining the different yet potentially intersected genealogies of multicultural imaginaries beyond the Middle Eastern and North African refugees in Asia.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the main characteristics of the environmentalism expressed in contemporary fashion. i.e. 'eco-look'. They can be categorized into naturalism symbolism primitiveness and concern about recycling. First naturalistic tendency can be found in through the method of some contemporary eco-looks which are using natural colors harmonisation of the colors in similarity and in controst and expressing in a realistic manner some natural entities or use some ornaments representing them. Such trends easily let people to feel the clothes unified with the nature and human beings. Secondly some contemporary eco-looks express environmentalistic ideas for examples the idea for protection of the nature or the idea against pollution of the earth and destruction of nature in a symbolistic way. Thirdly primitiveness is one of the most characteristic feature in contemporary eco-looks. It can be found in contemporary eco-looks, In can be found in some eco-looks using primitive or original images of Africa and underdeveloped countries. it reflects the human desire to go back to the nature or to the unity with the nature, Finally recycled materials are commonly used in eco-look. Patchwork and handmade knits are popular methods for this mode. They implicates the idea of pragmatism and simplicity in fashion.   • China, the nation which reigns the society consisted of several ethnic groups, has been interested in universal virtues since its early eras, due to the social demand for their integration. Confucianism, therefore, traditionally has been executing this function as a transcendant world, and at present the Marxism takes its role instead. After its reformation and opening, the market economy was allowed to set in China, which means that the traditional ideology of integration comes to face the crisis occurred by new trend of the individualism which is gradually spreading. The people who make the policies and the intellectual people in China who noticed these phenomena, are trying to make measures to cope with this contradiction. Despite of their trials, they are destined to find nothing but powerlessness in front of the powerful marketing strategy of the commercialism which adroitly adapted to their measures. In this situation, the transcendant world to reach, which these people are appealing again is the totalitarian ideology that persistently has been maintained through history of China. The movie, Hero, is the one of these attempts. This paper offers you the analysis of this cultural agony of contemporary China.

한국 침구 전문서 『영소침구경』 연구 (Study on 『Yeongsochimgugyeong』, a Specialized Text of Acupuncture and Moxibustion in Korea)

  • Objectives : Previous research on texts specializing in acupuncture and moxibustion in Korea have mostly been focused on those written in the Joseon period, leaving an academic void in the modern and contemporary eras. This research on the "Yeongsochimgugyeong" was undertaken to help readers' understanding of the text and to provide basic material for further research on modern-contemporary education of acupuncture and moxibustion. Methods : The original text of "Yeongsochimgugyeong" was examined along with books and news articles on related people. Information that was difficult to obtain through written documents was supplemented by interviews with people who knew about the situation at the time. The findings were organized as 1) the author and related people and 2) introduction of "Yeongsochimgugyeong". Results and Conclusions : The original text of "Yeongsochimgugyeong" was written by teacher Jeon, Gwangok, interpreted and annotated by his disciple Gwon, Yeongjun. It is presumed that they wrote this book as educators of Korean medicine for educational purposes on acupuncture and moxibustion before and after the Japanese colonial era. The book is consisted of an overview of meridianology, details on points and meridians, supplementing and draining methods, similar to the current text book. The contents and expressions of "Yeongsochimgugyeong" reflect the state of acupuncture and moxibustion education of the early and mid $20^{th}$ century, making it a valuable resource.

자연 윤리학 구성의 제 요소 - 한의사 윤리를 중심으로 - (Elements of Natural Ethics - Focusing on Korean Medicine Ethics -)

  • Objectives : To define an everyday ethics for students and doctors of Korean Medicine, people who desire treatment, cultivation and healing through Korean Medical means by determining its conditions and characteristics. Ways of constructing its contents fit for contemporary society were discussed. Methods The threefold Heaven-Earth-Human theory, Yinyang theory, circulation of the Five Phases along with contents of classics such as 『Huangdineijing(黃帝內經)』, 『Guanzi(管子)』, 『Zhongyong(中庸)』, 『Daxue(大學)』, 『Beijiqianjinyaofang(備急千金要方)』, 『Donguibogam(東醫寶鑑)』 were newly interpreted or quoted for explanation. Results : The elements that construct natural ethics and Natural Ethics were established as following: the natural perspective of Nature and People, natural sustainability as fundamental principle, co-existence and initiative circulation as fundamental rules, education and cultivation of lay people, and professional character and competence. Conclusions : The authors suggest a reconstruction of the inherent philosophy, ethics, principle, rule, life guidelines of Korean Medicine within the framework of "natural ethics" and "Natural Ethics" as a prior task for better integration of traditional KM into contemporary society.

현대(現代)패션에 나타난 기호(記號)의 의미(意味) 분석(分析) - 1990년(年) 이후(以後)의 패션 컬렉션을 중심(中心)으로 - (A Study on the Meanings of Signs represented in Contemporary Fashion - Focusing on Fashion Collections since 1990 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the meanings of signs represented in contemporary fashion based on the Peirce's trisection theory in order to present various types of sign representation that satisfies aesthetic value and characteristics of the age of information and image. Types of signs represented in contemporary fashion can be summarized into letters, numbers, codes, pictures, logos, characters and emblems. The meanings of signs were analyzed based on the Peirce's trisection theory, resulting in representation of play, brandsymbol, eroticism and suggestion. The play was categorized into infantile and parodic. The former inspires unexpected interest and laughter from contemporary people in the age of disorder through humorous characters, cartoons and illustrations. The latter inspires laughter by parodying things and it's intention is to release the isolation of people and their relative poverty through pictures for which techniques of parody and surrealism were used. Most of the brandsymbols represented by logos, used for textile and clothing design as well as accessories are optimal signs that construct brand images. Eroticism means emotion, impulses, senses of value and sexual attraction. A desire to represent sexual attraction is an expression of eroticism and self-expression to adjust in a changing society. Suggestion tends to pursue the image of harmony with nature in a world which is pressed by material civilization. Humans represent illuminating messages through direct slogans by characters, natural objects and motives of social phenomenon in pursuit of the benefits of abundant material civilization in the structure of a highly advanced scientific civilization and industrial society.

  • Contemporary Architecture stands on the basis of the influence of the formative arts, and it carves out a new field of architecture through various technical or material expressions. Herzog & de Meuron, whose has been recognized internationally, are one of few artists following this Contemporary architectural flow. This thesis analyzed his work of art by the trend of times, and base on the results, tried to find his architectural language. Three points have been concluded through this architectural thesis. The architectural language does not deal with our monotonous environment, but deals with it technically. It's expressed all the architectural factors that we already know and used through new ways, so that, finally, it makes people feel the work of art in different point of views. I desire more future researches will focus on the many types of architectural and interior design languages that the Contemporary society craves.

현대패션에 나타난 엽기현상 - 국내 패션디자이너의 작품을 중심으로 - (The Bizarreness Phenomenon in The Contemporary Fashion - Focused on the works of korean fashion designers -)

  • As the contemporary public consensus prefers individuality to classical things, they have gotten sick of the universality and pursue fashion anew. As a result the new concept of artistic value delivers a shock to ordinary and traditional images. The bizarreness culture of fashion contains two extremes, horror and humor. which make people uneasy but amused by sensuous descriptions. Bizarre things captivate the audience regardless of the violent stimuli. The conversion of aesthetic consciousness is brought accordingly by horror and humor. In this paper, It is discussed that the concept of history of bizarreness and the social effect from its phenomena in current fashion are expressed through the two methods above. The bizarreness phenomena in current fashion is shown as a new hybrid type which has been recreated and came out of the internet. This phenomena has caused abnormal results and ironically mixed products, what was once directness, violence and disgust, are on the other hand enjoyment and amusement. A widening field, the bizarreness phenomenon, as an important implication in which can completely change the current trend, will be on track as a crucial concept representing contemporary cultures.
