The purpose of this study is to ensure an amicable material quality control in the construction site through investigating a process which can impact the construction material quality. For it, a worker interview and questionnaire survey was conducted through a direct field visit. The visited construction sites are composed of 79% construction site and 21% engineering site. As the respondents of questionnaire survey, the quality control workers were 72% of total respondents. Next, the construction worker, handymen, field representatives and others formed 7%. The interview with the quality control staff was conducted with the items including the construction site quality control guide, incoming inspection and material management. Through this survey, the problems of quality control by progress phase were derived. It could be known that the management and measures by each phase were urgently required. It also was indicated that a selection of low-priced material caused by low price bidding could badly impact the construction and safety. Also, in relation to the opinions such as the insufficient quality control and heavy work-load, the improvements are required. For the effective quality control in the construction site, the material quality control procedures suitable for the phase of construction progress must be presented in the present quality control. Also, the standards for it need to be established.
This study analyzed the safety management efficiency through input-oriented BCC Model using DEA by making of Models, in which this study selected the number of staff affiliated with the construction site, number of staff members on the construction team, and number of safety personnel as Input Factor, along with the number of disaster victims and zero-accident accomplished hours as output elements, targeting 40-or-so apartment building construction sites which are being built by 3 domestic construction companies. As a result of efficiency, it was 0.643, the number of efficient DMU was 4. In the aspect of returns to scale, 21 construction sites(52.5%) found to be in a state of increasing returns while 14 construction sites(35%) was in a state of Decreasing returns. The reason for inefficiency was found to lie in technical factors in case of 30 construction sites(75%). Lastly, inefficient DMU is in need of 38.9 % and 66% reduction in site personnel and safety personnel. Based on study results, the 29 construction sites accounting for 72.5% of DMU for safety management efficiency evaluation object turned out to do inefficient safety management that doesn't fit the size of each company.

Recent economic slump has highlighted the needs for the construction industry to develop strategies to improve productivity and overhaul organization structure. Notably, it is urgent to improve productivity of apartment building construction projects that account for about half of the aggregate revenue of building construction projects in Korea. As construction site management manpower staffing plan has close relation with the productivity of building construction, it is essential to staff construction sites adequately in consideration of site conditions and characteristics. However, construction companies of Korea are still far from developing site management manpower staffing plan in reference to quantitative standards. Therefore, this research aims to analyze site management manpower staffing plan of apartment building construction project by means of density analysis. To be more specific, site organization charts and staffing plans of apartment building construction projects put together by large construction companies in Korea are studied and essential resources and their mobilization time of apartment building construction projects are examined. Conclusions herein will provide basic inputs to subsequent studies of apartment building construction site management manpower staffing standards.
Construction companies find it increasingly necessary to reduce the cost as the construction market has been suffering from a depression and the industrial environment has been changing fast lately. The cost cut demands the productivity management of the field operations, which can be made feasible by assigning an appropriate number of managers on the construction site. However, previous studies are focused on the labor productivity and construction companies take into account only the revenue per worker in organizing the staff. The purpose of this study is to research the model for calculating the field management manpower in accordance with the characteristic of project and site conditions which are usually considered in the beginning of the construction project. The data about apartment building projects of domestic large constructors and factors related to them were statistically analyzed. The results of this study can be used to calculate the necessary field management manpower in accordance with the characteristic of project.

In a construction project in which cooperation among project members gets its importance, trust among construction site members should be foundation to enhance team spirit and achievement. This study analyzes the trust network among staff by using social network analysis (SNA) theory for organizations in apartment complex construction sites in Korea. The analysis illustrates higher level of trust for those positioning in the higher positions in hierarchy and having greater experiences. It might be attributable to own features of construction works where skills are acquired by site experience.
During maintenance or construction works in or at the tracks of railways, high risks for passengers and railway staff, especially for the workers on the construction site exist. The high risks result out of the movement of rail vehicles, like trains or construction vehicles, which must be faced by using any available technical and operational technologies for securing them against the environment. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the level of protection continuously and to identify new and innovative methods and technologies for the protection of the gang (construction worker, machines and material). Especially on construction sites at line sections with two or more parallel tracks but also with single tracks, there are still a lot of incidents and accidents mostly with seriously injured persons or fatalities. These were mainly gang members that breach the railway-loading gage. By using proper warning or protection systems, the avoidance of such accidents must be achieved. The latest developments. in gang protection systems concern on the one hand fixed barriers in the middle between the construction site and the operated track and on the other hand construction vehicles equipped with automatic warning systems. The disadvantage of such protection methods is that the gang can be warned against an approaching train but a monitoring of the gang members cannot be performed. Only one part of a potential dangerous situation will be detected. If the gang members will overhear the acoustic warning signal of the security staff and the workers will not leave the danger zone in the track, the driver of the approaching train had no chance to react to the dangerous situation. An accident is often inevitable. While the detection of acoustic warning signals by the gang members working on a construction site is very difficult, the acoustical planning of an automatic warning system has to be designed for an acoustic short range level of one meter besides the construction vehicle. The decision about the use of today's technical warning system (fixed systems, automatic warning systems, etc.) must be geared to the technical feasibility and the level of safety which is needed. Criteria for decision guidance to block a track should be developed by danger estimation and economical variables. To realize the actual jurisdiction and to minimize the hazards of railway operations by the use of construction vehicles near the tracks further developments are needed. This means, that the warning systems have to be enhanced to systems for protection, which monitor the realization of the warning signal as a precondition for giving a movement authority to a train. This method can protect against accidents caused by predictable wrongdoing. The actual state of the art technique of using a collective warning combined with additional security staff is no longer acceptable. Therefore, the Institute of Transportation System of the German Aerospace Center in Braunschweig (Germany) will develop a gang warning and protection system based upon imaging methods, with optical sensors such as video in visible and invisible ranges, radar, laser, and other. The advantage of such a system based on the possibility to monitor both the gang itself and the railway-loading gauge either of the parallel track or of the same track still in use. By monitoring both situations, the system will be able to generate a warning message for the approaching train, that there are obstacles in the track, so that the train can be stopped to prevent an accident. And also the gang workers will be warned, while they breach their area.

The coordination and control of construction projects is vital if a project is to be a success. Almost all analysis has shown that these can only be achieved if good quality communication can be maintained on a construction site. This research focuses on the role that tablet computers could play in enhancing this communication. The following points are investigated in this paper: (a) Whether a tablet computer can enable users to monitor project progress more efficiently than traditional methods, (b) How the tablet computer fits within the project management iron triangle in construction, (c) The two different psychological impacts of information transmission for the end user using a tablet computer (i) The expectancy to transmit information frequently and rapidly from tablet computer users to project members whilst working onsite (ii) The mode of information transmission to the cognition of the transmitted information to the tablet computer. Through the use of structured interviews and questionnaires, the opinions of individuals within various disciplines in construction were canvassed. The approach adopted in this paper deals with understanding both the soft and hard issues for deploying such a system. This research enabled the authors to develop a base framework incorporating the key factors which are relevant for implementing a tablet computer based on information flows primarily.

Objectives: The Purpose of this study is to improve work environment measurement in construction industry by survey. Especially, this study focused on the defferences between construction staffs(safety manger, health manager) and work environment measurement institution workers. Methods: Survey targets are construction staffs(safety manger, health manager) and work environment measurement institution workers. Respondent was selected by respective councils and conferences. A questionnaire consisting of items on general characteristics and the improvement of work environment measurement in construction industry. Results: Total of 134 people(39 safety managers, 27 health managers, 68 work environment measurement institution workers) responded to survey. Overall, current work environment measurement was deemed unsuitable for construction industry. There was a significant difference between construction staff and work environment institution workers in some question. On the other hand, there was no noticeable significant difference in general characteristics. Conclusions: As a result of survey, current work environment measurement was deemed unsuitable for construction industry in terms of measurement method, measurement timing, and actual site improvement. In addition, there is a statistically significant differences in response between construction staff and work environment measurement institution workers, so it is necessary to reflect both opinions in order to improve work environment measurement in construction industry.
Due to various industrial accident that occur to the staff in the broadcasting production sites, the issue of safety at the broadcast production site is becoming a social issue. Nevertheless, not many researches have been carried out on the actual conditions of the staff's production environment and its safety issues. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to prepare a countermeasure based on engineering knowledge by analyzing working environment to improve the poor working environment of staff. First, this study analyzed statistical data of industrial accidents over the past five years to find out the current status of disasters at broadcasting production sites. As a result, the intensity of the accident was not weak in that the loss days was more than one month in 85% of accident. In addition, the type of accident was high in the fall/trip accidents. Second, this study visited 10 broadcasting production sites for risk assessment. By analyzing the characteristics of the working environment and 104 questionnaires, we predicted the types of accidents that can occur in the broadcasting production site. As a result, accident types such as fall, collision, and trip were relatively high, similar to the characteristics of construction site. Third, it was possible to quantify the scale of the risk in the broadcasting production, and as a result, the quantity of temporary structure and accident risk were proportional. In other words, this study analyzes broadcasting work environment and defines risk factors based on safety engineering knowledge. Finally, this study suggested a guideline to improve the safety of the broadcasting production site.

A ubiquitous-based construction site management system coupled with construction processing status of a 3-D spatial information and sensor network for construction site management is implemented. The service of such management system is able to save efforts and times to check the processing status of construction sites and more the related construction staff in charge can receive the real time information of construction field or the related information can be transmitted to the office where the construction staffs in charge are. Especially we can provide on a mobile smart phone of real time processing status at construction field and environmental information of such temperature, humidity, information of GPS, etc. which are able to affect the construction status. In addition, construction processing and design modification etc. as well as necessary informations are able to be helped and provided at any time and to any place.
