  • The Korean construction industry has been severely impacted by the 2008 global financial crisis, which resulted in a significant reduction in the overall contract amount. For survival, many construction management (CM) companies had to adapt a strategy of lowering bid prices to maintain their competitiveness. As a result of the strategy, companies faced a number of issues including their decreased capability in risk management. However, most risk management-related studies focused on construction risk management, yet these studies lacked consideration of enterprise-level risk management practices. To fill the gap, the objectives of the present study are (1) to investigate, the risk management practices of Korean CM companies, (2) to identify factors that determine efficient enterprise-level risk management practices, and (3) to propose a module for the development of enterprise-level risk management. Lastly, the efficiency of the proposed development module was validated by using a survey.

  • GIS has been rapidly developed since 1995 when the Ministry of Construction and Transportation started the First National GIS Construction Project and built large scale topographic map at local governments level. From that time local governments have been built several application system such as road management system, waterworks management system, sewer management system, underground facilities management system, and urban planning information system, etc. However, the construction of GIS application system at different department level brings the problem of data sharing and overlapping database construction. To overcome this environment Enterprise GIS concepts has been introduced. In case of Seoul Metropolitan government Spatial Data Warehouse have been constructed. However, Seoul Metropolitan government still have the problem of inactive use of GIS system and adaption to the rapidly changing information environment. This study aims to present Strategic plan to uggrade Enterprise GIS concenpt from data centric to service centric architecture at local government level.

  • The need for total enterprise management that covers from accepting orders, design, cost, procurement, manufacture, and delivery has been recently raised in order for efficient project management of small and medium size plant construction enterprises. This trend is reflected in the introduction of EPM(Enterprise Project Management) solutions by some shipbuilding enterprises and large construction corporations. In step with the trend, small and medium size plant construction enterprises are enabled to provide knowledge base in terms of reducing cost and production period and managing portfolio for accepting orders and attaining contract by inducing customized EPM This study presents a design of customized EPM based on a case study of a company. It exhibits a collaborative/collaboration resource-supply model which can be universally applied to small and medium size job-order production enterprises. The research discusses that under the assumption that information is shared internally between departments on planning, supply, manufacture, and quality control in order to create collaborative environment and close participation is created externally between suppliers and orderers, productivity can be improved in cost reduction through planning efficient collaborative supply model.

  • As the complexity and uncertainty of international construction projects increase, the importance of risk management capabilities in the construction industry has become more pronounced. Accordingly, Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) has become a widely adopted approach among organizations as a new way for more effective risk management. Despite its growing application, research related to ERM is still in its infancy, and most of the existing studies have been limited to financial industries. Therefore, this study aims to empirically examine the influence of ERM's core elements on project risk management (PRM) and project performance within construction firms. Our findings indicate that the key ERM components-organization, policy, and culture-significantly enhance PRM processes, underscoring their critical role and importance. Additionally, effective PRM positively affects project outcomes, highlighting its significance for construction companies engaged in international projects. While ERM does not directly impact project performance, it indirectly improves outcomes through enhanced PRM capabilities. It suggests that ERM will contribute to the firm's performance by improving the firm's PRM capability through policies and a risk-focused culture corresponding to the adopted ERM organization and system..
