  • For the aerospace structural application of high-strength 2xxx series aluminum alloys, stress corrosion cracking(SCC) behavior in aggressive environments needs to be well understood. In this study, the SCC sensitivities of 2024-T62, 2124-T851 and 2050-T84 alloys in a 3.5 % NaCl solution are measured using a constant load testing method without polarization and a slow strain rate test(SSRT) method at a strain rate of 10-6 /sec under a cathodic applied potential. When the specimens are exposed to a 3.5 % NaCl solution under a constant load for 10 days, the decrease in tensile ductility is negligible for 2124-T851 and 2050-T84 specimens, proving that T8 heat treatment is beneficial in improving the SCC resistance of 2xxx series aluminum alloys. The specimens are also susceptible to SCC in a hydrogen-generating environment at a slow strain rate of $10^{-6}/sec$ in a 3.5 % NaCl solution under a cathodic applied potential. Regardless of the test method, low impurity 2124-T851 and high Cu/Mg ratio 2050-T84 alloys are found to have relatively lower SCC sensitivity than 2024-T62. The SCC behavior of 2xxx series aluminum alloys in the 3.5 % NaCl solution is discussed based on fractographic and micrographic observations.

  • The study of methyl viologen ($MV^{2+}$) mediated oxygen reduction in electrolytic ethanol media possesses potential application in the electrochemical synthesis of hydrogen peroxide mainly due to the advantages of the much increased solubility of molecular oxygen ($O_2$) and high degree of reversibility of $MV^{2+/{\bullet}+}$ redox couple. The diffusion coefficients of both $MV^{2+}$ and $O_2$ were investigated via electrochemical techniques. For the first time, $MV^{2+}$ mediated $O_2$ reduction in electrolytic ethanol solution has been proved to be feasible on both boron-doped diamond and micro-carbon disc electrodes. The electrocatalytic response is demonstrated to be due to the radical cation, $MV^{{\bullet}+}$. The homogeneous electron transfer step is suggested to be the rate determining step with a rate constant of $(1{\pm}0.1){\times}10^5M^{-1}s^{-1}$. With the aid of a simulation program describing the EC' mechanism, by increasing the concentration ratio of $MV^{2+}$ to $O_2$ electrochemical catalysis can be switched from a partial to a 'total catalysis' regime.

  • We propose a SPICE model of drain-induced barrier lowering (DIBL) for a junctionless cylindrical surrounding gate (JLCSG) MOSFETs. To this end, the potential distribution in the channel is obtained via the Poisson equation, and the threshold voltage model is presented for the JLCSG MOSFET. In a JLCSG nano-structured MOSFET, a channel radius affects the carrier transfer as well as the channel length and oxide thickness; therefore, DIBL should be expressed as a function of channel length, channel radius, and oxide thickness. Consequently, it can be seen that DIBLs are proportional to the power of -3 for the channel length, 2 for the channel radius, 1 for the thickness of the oxide film, and the constant of proportionality is 18.5 when the SPICE parameter, the static feedback coefficient ${\eta}$, is between 0.2 and 1.0. In particular, as the channel radius and the oxide film thickness increase, the value of ${\eta}$ remains nearly constant.

  • In the beam pattern synthesis problem using line source, the relationship between source distribution function and beam pattern may be represented by Fourier transform pair. In this paper, a general method to synthesize the line source distribution for a desired lobe-like beam pattern is presented by developing the nonlinear inversion method based on an iterative sampling technique. This method can be applied to the synthesis of continuously distributed dielectric constants satisfying the desired inverse scattering coefficient patterns when illuminating by TE-polarized and TM-polarized plane waves to arbitrary dielectric material. Furthermore this method can also be applied to the synthesis of transmission line with arbitrary reflection coefficient patterns. Some bandstop spatial filter and dispersive transmission line filter are illustrated for generality.

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a mathematical expression for computing crack angles based on reinforcement volumes in the longitudinal and transverse directions, member end-fixity and length-to-width aspect ratio. For this a reinforced concrete beam-column element is assumed to possess a series of potential crack planes represented by a number of differential truss elements. Depending on the boundary condition, a constant angle truss or a variable angle truss is employed to model the cracked structural concrete member. The truss models are then analyzed using the virtual work method of analysis to relate forces and deformations. Rigorous and simplified solution schemes are presented. An equation to estimate the theoretical crack angle is derived by considering the energy minimization on the virtual work done over both the shear and flexural components the energy minimization on the virtual work done over both the shear and flexural components of truss models. The crack angle in this study is defined as the steepest one among fan-shaped angles measured from the longitudinal axis of the member to the diagonal crack. The theoretical crack angle predictions are validated against experimentally observed crack angle reported by previous researchers in the literature. Good agreement between theory and experiment is obtained.

  • In this research, the composites (100-x)LCP-xBNT (x = 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 vol.%) were fabricated with thermoplastic LCP(Liquid Crystal Polymer) and BNT($BaNd_2Ti_4O_{12}$) which is a high frequency dielectric material. Their dielectric properties, mechanical strength and microstructure were investigated by Impedance analyser, Instron and SEM. In order to fabricate LCP-BNT composites, LCP resin was put into the twin screw type mixer($310^{\circ}C$), melted by keeping for 10 min. After that, BNT filler was dispersed with melted LCP resin for 15 min. in the mixer. For measuring the dielectric properties and mechanical strength, Composite specimens were made by pressing composite granule (LCP-BNT) with 7 ton in the mold at $310^{\circ}C$. With increasing the BNT content (0~40 vol.%) of the composite, Its dielectric constant increased, dielectric loss and flexural strength decreased. The dielectric constant and flexural strength of composites with 20~30 vol.% of BNT filler are 4.1~6.0 and 35~55 MPa respectively. BNT/LCP composite is the potential substrate material for the high frequency application.

  • A conveying fluid cantilever pipe system subjected to an uniformly distributed tangential follower force and three moving masses upon it constitute this vibrational system. The influences of the velocities of moving masses, the distance between two moving masses. and the uniformly distributed tangential follower force have been studied on the dynamic behavior of a cantilever pipe system by numerical mettled. The uniformly distributed tangential follower force is considered within its ciritical value of a cantilever pipe without moving masses, and three constant velocities and three constant distance between two moving masses are also chosen. When the moving masses exist on pipe, As the velocity of the moving mass and distributed tangental force increases, the deflection of cantilever pipe conveying fluid is decreased, respectively. Increasing of the velocity of fluid flow make the amplitude of cantilever pipe conveying fluid decrease. After the moving mass passed upon the pipe, the tip displacement of pipe is influenced by the potential energy of cantilever pipe.

  • In this paper, we employed the classical molecular dynamics simulations using Tersoff's potential to calculate the elastic constants of the silicon carbide (SiC) crystal at high temperature. The elastic constants of the SiC crystal were calculated based on the stress-strain characteristics, which were drawn by the simulation using LAMMPS software. At the same time, the elastic constants of the SiC ceramics were measured at different temperatures by impulse excitation testing (IET) method. Based on the simulated stress-strain results, the SiC crystal showed the elastic deformation characteristics at the low temperature region, while a slight plastic deformation behavior was observed at high strain over $1,000^{\circ}C$ temperature. The elastic constants of the SiC crystal were changed from about 475 GPa to 425 GPa by increasing the temperature from RT to $1,250^{\circ}C$. When compared to the experimental values of the SiC ceramics, the simulation results, which are unable to obtain by experiments, are found to be very useful to predict the stress-strain behaviors and the elastic constant of the ceramics at high temperature.

  • Levels of carbon dioxide gas, a metabolite of microbial growth, have been reported to parallel the onset of microbial spoilage and may be used as a convenient index for a packaged food's shelf life. This study aimed to establish a kinetic model of $CO_2$ production from perishable food for the potential use for shelf life control in the food supply chain. Aerobic bacterial count and package $CO_2$ concentration were measured during the storage of seasoned pork meat at four temperatures (0, 5, 10 and $15^{\circ}C$), and their interrelationship was investigated to establish a mathematical model. The microbial growth at constant temperature was described by using model of Baranyi and Roberts. $CO_2$ production from the stored food could be explained by taking care of its yield and maintenance factors linked to the microbial growth. By establishing the temperature dependence of the microbial growth and $CO_2$ yield factor, $CO_2$ partial pressure or concentration in package headspace could be estimated to a limited extent, which is helpful for controlling the shelf life under constant and dynamic temperature conditions. Application and efficacy of the model needs to be improved with further refinement in the model.

  • Molten salt solutions consisting of eutectic LiCl-KCl and concentrations of samarium chloride (0.5 to 3.0 wt%) at 500℃ were analyzed using both cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The CV technique gave the average diffusion coefficient for Sm3+ over the concentration range. Equipped with Sm3+ diffusion coefficient, the Randles-Sevcik equation predicted Sm3+ concentration values that agree with the given experimental values. From CV measurements; the anodic, cathodic, and half-peak potentials were identified and subsequently used as a parameter to acquire EIS spectra. A six-element Voigt model was used to model the EIS data in terms of resistance-time constant pairs. The lowest resistances were observed at the half-peak potential with the associated resistance-time constant pairs characterizing the reversible reaction between Sm3+ and Sm2+. By extrapolation, the Voigt model estimated the polarization resistance and established a polarization resistance-concentration relationship.
