Development of a Web-based Diagnostic Evaluation Program for Prevention of Nurse Malpractice Liability (간호과오책임 예방을 위한 웹기반 진단평가 프로그램 개발)

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a web-based diagnostic evaluation program for nurses to prevent malpractice liability. Methods: A comprehensive review of the literature and 9 specialist interviews were used to search for learning goals and content for protection for nurses from malpractice. Data on needs for learning goals were collected from 56 hospital nurses who agreed to complete a self-report questionnaire. The diagnostic program was evaluated between September 2008 and August 2009 by 35 new hospital nurses using an application of the web-based program evaluation tools by Chung (2000). Results: A comprehensive review of the literature and interviews were used to search for learning goals and content. The evaluation program was composed of the 73 questions for diagnostic evaluation under 23 learning goals and 6 grand learning goals which included the principles of law, patient's rights, legal responsibility, patient's safety, regulation on nursing practice and patient's rights protection. Evaluation of the program showed that the mean for program evaluation was 3.43 (SD=.37). Conclusion: This diagnostic evaluation program could be an efficient method for teachers and learners to improve nurses' behavior in protecting the patient's rights and preventing malpractice claims.

Development of a Web-based Education Program for Nurses working in Nursing Homes on Human Rights of Older Adults (노인요양시설 간호사 대상 웹기반 노인인권 교육프로그램 개발)

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop a web-based education program for nurses working in nursing homes. The focus was on the rights of older adults. Methods: The program was designed based on the Network-Based Instructional System Design (NBISD) model and was operated and evaluated between July 2007 and June 2008. Results: Out of nursing records of 40 residents from a nursing home, the final 7 cases were deducted through classification using the Resource Utilization Group (RUG)-III. The data on needs for education was collected from 28 nurses working in 15 nursing homes located in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, who agreed to complete a self-report questionnaire. A comprehensive review of the literature and two focus groups interviews were used to search for risk factors and guidelines for protection of human rights. The education program was developed based on Kolb's experiential learning model and composed of 5 units, which included content on types of human rights and rights to death with dignity, elder abuse, physical liberty, and self-determination. The program was positively evaluated showing a score of 3.35 (SD=0.37) out of 4. Conclusion: The educational program developed in this study should promote nurses' sensitivity to the rights of elders and improve nurses' behaviors in protecting the rights of elders residing in nursing homes.

Development of a Web-based Senescence Preparation Education Program for Successful Aging for Middle-aged Adults (중.장년층의 성공적 노후를 위한 웹기반 노년기 준비 교육프로그램의 개발)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a web-based senescence preparation education program to promote successful aging. Methods: This program was developed based on Network-Based Instructional System Design (NBISD) model, using the following 5 processes: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The program was operated for 10 weeks from March 17 to May 25, 2008. Results: There were 4 menu bars, introduction, related data, lecture room, and communication on the main page. In the operation of this program, HTML, ASP, JAVA Script, Namo web editor, Edit Plus, Front Page and multimedia technology were applied. The program content consisted of understanding elderly people, physical health, activity & exercise, nutrition, medication use, psychological health, intellectual health, understanding death, welfare system and leisure activity. Conclusion: This program could be a useful means to provide senescence preparation information to middle-aged adults. Also, it is expected to offer individualized learning opportunities to many learners in various settings. Nurses should further develop and facilitate various learning strategies including web-based programs for elder care.

  • 오늘날과 같이 과학기술과 정보통신 기술의 급속한 발달로 인터넷이 다르게 성장하였으며 이로 인하여 다양한 학습용 사이트가 운영되고 있다. 따라서 웹상의 교육정보가 기하급수적으로 증가되었고, 이러한 교육용 웹 자료를 컴퓨터 보조 학습 매체로 활용하고 있다. 또한 CAI(Computer Assisted Instruction), ICAI(Intelligent CAI) 나 ITS(Intelligent Tutoring System) 등을 통해 컴퓨터를 수업매체로 활용하는 방법도 많이 연구되고 있다. 하지만 현재까지 개발된 대부분의 ITS들은 CAl나 ICAI의 이론적 특징을 살릴 수 있을 만큼 진보되어있지 못한 실정이다. 특히 현행 교육과정이 지향하고 있는 수준별 교육과정에 적합하지 않고 학생들의 능력, 적성, 필요, 흥미에 대한 개인차를 고려하지 않으며, 학생 개개인의 성장 잠재력과 교육의 효율성을 극대화하지 못하고 있다. 그리고 학습자가 원하는 요구를 정확하게 파악하여 학습효과를 향상 시킬 수 있는 방법을 제공하고 있지 않다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 학습자들의 개인차 변인을 파악하여 학습자의 요구나 능력에 맞게 학습자의 학업성취를 평가할 수 있고, 수준별 교육과정에서 학습 능력이 떨어지는 학생의 학습 결손을 예방할 수 있도록 인터페이스 모듈, 학습자 모듈, 교수전략 모듈, 전문가 모듈을 가진 자기 주도적 학습을 위한 웹 기반의 MITS(Multimedia ITS: MITS)를 설계하였으며, MITS의 각 모듈들이 효율적으로 상호작용 할 수 있는 알고리즘을 제안하였다.

Effects of Team-based Problem-based Learning Combined with Smart Education: A Focus on High-risk Newborn Care (스마트 교육을 활용한 팀 기반 문제 중심 학습의 효과: 고위험 신생아 간호를 중심으로)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of team-based problem-based learning combined with smart education among nursing students. Methods: A quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group, pre-posttest design was used. The experimental group (n=36) received problem-based learning combined with smart education and lectures 7 times over the course of 7 weeks (100 minutes weekly). Control group (n=34) only received instructor-centered lectures 7 times over the course of 7 weeks (100 minutes weekly). Data were analyzed using the $x^2$ test, the Fisher exact test, and the independent t-test with SPSS for Windows version 21.0. Results: After the intervention, the experimental group reported increased learning motivation (t=2.70, p=.009), problem-solving ability (t=2.25, p=.028), academic self-efficacy (t=4.76, p<.001), self-learning ability (t=2.78, p<.001), and leadership (t=2.78, p=.007) relative to the control group. Conclusion: Team-based problem-based learning combined with smart education and lectures was found to be an effective approach for increasing the learning motivation, problem-solving ability, academic self-efficacy, self-learning ability, and leadership of nursing students.

The development of a learning management system for dental radiology education: A technical report

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to suggest the development of a learning management system for dental radiology education using the Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment(Moodle). Materials and Methods: Moodle is a well-known and verified open-source software-learning management system (OSS-LMS). The Moodle software was installed on a server computer and customized for dental radiology education. The system was implemented for teaching undergraduate students to diagnose dental caries in panoramic images. Questions were chosen that could assess students' diagnosis ability. Students were given several questions corresponding to each of 100 panoramic images. Results: The installation and customization of Moodle was feasible, cost-effective, and time-saving. By having students answer questions repeatedly, it was possible to train them to examine panoramic images sequentially and thoroughly. Conclusion: Based on its educational efficiency and efficacy, the adaptation of an OSS-LMS in dental school may be highly recommended. The system could be extended to continuing education for dentists. Further studies on the objective evaluation of knowledge acquisition and retention are needed.

A study on the practical use of CAI (컴퓨터 보조수업의 활용실태에 대한 분석)

  • This study is aimed at checking on the extent of practical use of CAI in mathematical classes in secondary schools, thus seeking a way of activating the practical use of CAI, with computer networks being widely used for education. This research was conducted among some 120 mathematics teachers and 350 students in middle and high schools in the City of Kunsan, with questionnaires designed to survey the extent and effectiveness of the use of CAI, the teachers and students' awareness of CAI. In consequence, this research shows the following: The use of CAI was of considerable help in conducting mathematics classes, along with CAI used in a more effective way, but education materials concerning CAI were poorly managed and not a few teachers was negative toward the use of CAI in mathematics classes. In short, the practical use of CAI was unsatisfactory, probably due to the lack of application ability on the part of teachers caused by the perfunctory teachers' training. In conclusion, the practical use of CAI in classes can be activated as follows: CAI apparatuses and other teaching aids should be systematically managed by experts; high-quality CAI programs need to be developed to help teachers conduct effective classes; teachers should be positively encouraged to make practical use of CAI through teachers' training and a plan of obligating teachers to use CAI for one or two fixed class hours in a week may be strongly recommended.

  • Conventional studies of Computer Assisted Instruction(CAI) and Intelligent Tutoring System(ITS) have been general patterns to solve problems, so to solve specialized problems, the learner which has the attitude of passiveness should to solve problems including unnecessary processing to the need of the system. Consequently, those are not support the process of creativity and individual problems for the learner to solve the fractional number operations as this study. This study is the design and implementation of ITS on the fractional number addition and subtraction for the supplementary student. Our system can diagnosis mistakes of learning and guide the student to know their errors of learning process automatically And our system assist the learners to study with self-initiative learning, replacement their lacking of learning and control the process of fractional addition and subtraction operation with creativity according to their level. We showed that this system had improved problems of lacking care to supplementary student result in are not enough teachers involved their school and that the learner had achieved the higher learning effect according to the improved self-initiative learning causing this system.

  • We are at the onset of a major revolution in education, a revolution unparalleled since the invention of the printing press. The computer will be the instrument of this revolution. Computers and computer application are everywhere these days. Everyone can't avoid the influence of the computer in today's world. The computer is no longer a magical, unfamiliar tool that is used only by researchers or scholars or scientists. The computer helps us do our jobs and even routine tasks more effectively and efficiently. More importantly, it gives us power never before available to solve complex problems. Mathematics instruction in secondary schools is frequently perceived to be more a amendable to the use of computers than are other areas of the school curriculum. This is based on the perception of mathematics as a subject with clearly defined objectives and outcomes that can be reliably measured by devices readily at hand or easily constructed by teachers or researchers. Because of this reason, the first large-scale computerized curriculum projects were in mathematics, and the first educational computer games were mathematics games. And now, the entire mathematics curriculum appears to be the first of the traditional school curriculum areas to be undergoing substantial trasformation because of computers. Recently, many research-Institutes of our country are going to study on computers in orders to use it in mathematics education, but the study is still start ing-step. In order to keep abreast of this trend necessity, and to enhance mathematics teaching/learning which is instructed lecture-based teaching/learning at the present time, this study aims to develop/present practical method of computer-using. This is devided into three methods. 1. Programming teaching/learning method This part is presented the following five types which can teach/learn the mathematical concepts and principle through concise program. (Type 1) Complete a program. (Type 2) Know the given program's content and predict the output. (Type 3) Write a program of the given flow-chart and solve the problem. (Type 4) Make an inference from an error message, find errors and correct them. (Type 5) Investigate complex mathematical fact through program and annotate a program. 2. Problem-solving teaching/learning method solving This part is illustrated how a computer can be used as a tool to help students solve realistic mathematical problems while simultaneously reinforcing their understanding of problem-solving processes. Here, four different problems are presented. For each problem, a four-stage problem-solving model of polya is given: Problem statement, Problem analysis, Computer program, and Looking back/Looking ahead. 3. CAI program teaching/learning method This part is developed/presented courseware of sine theorem section (Mathematics I for high school) in order to avail individualized learning or interactive learning with teacher. The Development and Effect Analysis of an Internet Based Nursing Program: Application to Nursing Informatics (인터넷을 이용한 간호학 교육 프로그램 개발 및 효과분석 -간호정보학을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate an internet based program for nursing informatics. The course subject, Nursing Informatics, was made by a computerized instructional module using the internet. The program was developed after taking into consideration the level of competence and knowledge in the subjects. It was based on 10 steps of the CAI module developed by Alessi and Trollip. The subjects consisted of 76 junior nursing students taking a Nursing Informatics course. Two sets of questionnaires were used for this study. First, a questionnaire was administered to 76 students to collect general information on their experience while using computers and the internet. Secondly, another questionnaire was administrated to 76 students after they took the course. They were asked to evaluate the program in terms of easiness of use, precision of contents, freshness of contents, motivation in learning, effectiveness of learning, enhancement of communication, precision of screen, and interest in the contents. IDs and passwords were given to the students. The students were asked to write their IDs and passwords when they connected to Nursing Informatics (http://hallym.ac.kr/~yhyom/ inform.html). They were led the menu page which was categorized into 8 icons (i. e., syllabus, lecture notes, quick test, Q & A board, assignment, on-line test, related web sites and mailing lists) after confirming their IDs and passwords. The students' responses were very positive. This program was a very useful in increasing the effectiveness of learning and motivation in the students. Suggest to be use for other nursing courses.
