  • Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) is an approach for retrieving similar images from an image database based on automatically-derived image features. The quality of a retrieval system depends on the features used to describe image content. In this paper, we propose an image clustering system that takes a database of images as input and clusters them using k-means clustering algorithm taking into consideration color, texture and shape features. Experimental results show that the combination of the three features brings about higher values of accuracy and precision.

  • Objectives: The primary goal of this article is to compare the multiple algorithms used for deadlock handling methods and then outline the common method in deadlock handling methods. Methods: The article methodology begins with introducing a literature review studying different algorithms used in deadlock detection and many algorithms for deadlocks prevented, recovered, and avoided. Discussion and analysis of the literature review were done to classify and compare the studied algorithms. Findings: The results showed that the deadlock detection method solves the deadlock. As soon as the real-time deadlock detection algorithm is identified and indicated, it performs better than the non-real-time deadlock detection algorithm. Our novelty the statistics that we get from the percentages of reviewing outcomes that show the most effective rate of 47% is in deadlock prevention. Then deadlock detection and recovery with 28% finally, a rate of 25% for deadlock avoidance.

  • Sorting is an important data structure in many applications in the real world. Several sorting algorithms are currently in use for searching and other operations. Sorting algorithms rearrange the elements of an array or list based on the elements' comparison operators. The comparison operator is used in the accurate data structure to establish the new order of elements. This report analyzes and compares the time complexity and running time theoretically and experimentally of insertion, merge, and heap sort algorithms. Java language is used by the NetBeans tool to implement the code of the algorithms. The results show that when dealing with sorted elements, insertion sort has a faster running time than merge and heap algorithms. When it comes to dealing with a large number of elements, it is better to use the merge sort. For the number of comparisons for each algorithm, the insertion sort has the highest number of comparisons.

  • The paper presents three machine learning based keyphrase extraction methods that respectively use Decision Trees, Na$\ddot{i}$ve Bayes, and Artificial Neural Networks for keyphrase extraction. We consider keyphrases as being phrases that consist of one or more words and as representing the important concepts in a text document. The three machine learning based keyphrase extraction methods that we use for experimentation have been compared with a publicly available keyphrase extraction system called KEA. The experimental results show that the Neural Network based keyphrase extraction method outperforms two other keyphrase extraction methods that use the Decision Tree and Na$\ddot{i}$ve Bayes. The results also show that the Neural Network based method performs better than KEA.

  • In this paper we propose four-dimensional (4D) operators, which can be used to deal with sequential changes of topological relationships between 4D moving objects and we call them 4D development operators. In contrast to the existing operators, we can apply the operators to real applications on 4D moving objects. We also propose a new approach to define them. The approach is based on a dimension-separated method, which considers x-y coordinates and z coordinates separately. In order to show the applicability of our operators we show the algorithms for the proposed operators and development graph between 4D moving objects.

  • PARO, a power-aware routing optimization mechanism, is proposed in [1] to minimize the transmission power needed to forward packets between wireless devices in ad hoc network. The mechanism works by redirecting the route to pass through one or more intermediate nodes on behalf on source-destination pairs, then reducing the end-to-end transmission power. This paper will show an extension of this model and provide an analysis of the geometrical area lying between source and destination in which the intermediate node elects to perform redirection. The duration the intermediate node stays in that area is also computed.

  • In this paper, a preliminary study is performed on the subset selection procedures which are based on the trimmed means and the Hodges-Lehmann estimator derived from the Wilcoxon test. The proposed procedures are compared to the Gupta's rule through a small smaple Monte Carlo study. The results show that the procedures based on the robust estimators are successful in terms of efficiency and robustness.

  • We propose a new fragment assembly program MLP (mate-based layout with PHRAP). MLP consists of PHRAP, repeat masking, and a new layout algorithm that uses the mate pair information. Our experimental results show that by using MLP instead of PHRAP, we can significantly reduce the difference between the assembled sequence and the original genome sequence.
