  • This computational study features the transient compressible and inviscid flow analysis on a metallic plasma discharge from the opposing composite electrodes which is subjected to pulsed electric power. The computations have been performed using the flux corrected transport algorithm on the axisymmetric two-dimensional domain of electrode gap and outer space along with the calculation of plasma compositions and thermophysical properties such as plasma electrical conductivity. The mass ablation from aluminum electrode surfaces are modeled with radiative flux from plasma column experiencing intense Joule heating. The computational results shows the highly ionized and highly under-expanded supersonic plasma discharge with strong shock structure of Mach disk and blast wave propagation, which is very similar to muzzle blast or axial plasma jet flows. Also, the geometrical effects of composite electrodes are investigated to compare the amount of mass ablation and penetration depth of plasma discharge.

  • The issue of quench is related to safety operation of large-scale superconducting magnet system fabricated by cable-in-conduit conductor. A numerical method is presented to simulate the thermal hydraulic quench characteristics in the superconducting Tokamak magnet system, One-dimensional fluid dynamic equations for supercritical helium and the equation of heat conduction for the conduit are used to describe the thermal hydraulic characteristics in the cable-in-conduit conductor. The high heat transfer approximation between supercritical helium and superconducting strands is taken into account due to strong heating induced flow of supercritical helium. The fully implicit time integration of upwind scheme for finite volume method is utilized to discretize the equations on the staggered mesh. The scheme of a new adaptive mesh is proposed for the moving boundary problem and the time term is discretized by the-implicit scheme. It remarkably reduces the CPU time by local linearization of coefficient and the compressible storage of the large sparse matrix of discretized equations. The discretized equations are solved by the IMSL. The numerical implement is discussed in detail. The validation of this method is demonstrated by comparison of the numerical results with those of the SARUMAN and the QUENCHER and experimental measurements.

급축소관을 전파하는 압축파에 관한 이론적 연구 (Theoretical study on compression wave propagating in a sudden reduction duct)

  • Compression waves propagating in a high speed railway tunnel impose large pressure fluctuations on the train body or tunnel structures. The pressure fluctuations can cause ear discomfort for the passengers and increase the aerodynamic resistance of trains. As a fundamental research to resolve the pressure wave phenomenon in the tunnel, a steady theory of Chester-Chisnell- Whitham was applied to a simple shock tube with a sudden cross-sectional area reduction to model trains inside the tunnel. The results of the present theoretical analysis were compared with the experiments of the shock tube. The results show that the reflected compression wave from the model becomes stronger as the strength of incident compression wave and the blockage ratio increase. However, the compression wave passing through the model is not strongly dependent on the blockage ratio. The theoretical results are in good agreement with the experiments.

  • The physical phenomena of rectangular open cavity are numerically investigated in this paper Two-dimensional cavity problems with laminar boundary layers in upstream are simulated by using the compressible Wavier-Stokes equations. The high-order and high-resolution numerical schemes are used for the evaluation of spatial derivatives and the time integration. Cross-correlation is used to analyze the characteristics of wave propagation along time and spatial. Sudden phase shifting of 90 degrees is appeared near downstream edge, and this is coincident with the phase lag suggested in original Rossiter's equation. The results give a further understanding of the physical phenomenon of noise generation, and the resonance of flow and acoustic in cavity. Moreover, modified Rossiter's equation, which is more accurate and can be applied in various conditions, is suggested. The distance from the point of vortex generation to the point of vortex collapsing acts as effective distance of cavity resonance, and the phase difference between the point of vortex collapsing and the point of acoustic source acts as phase lag.   • As a high-speed train enters a tunnel, a compression wave is generated ahead of it due to the piston action of train. The compression waves propagate along the tunnel and reflect at the exit of tunnel. A complex wave phenomenon appears in the tunnel, because of the successive reflections of the pressure waves at the exit and entrance of tunnel. The pressure waves give rise to large pressure transients which impose the fluctuating loads on the running train. It is highly needed that the pressure transients should be predicted to design the train body and to improve the comfortableness of the passengers in the train. In the present study, the pressure transients were calculated numerically for a wide range of train speed and compared with the previous tunnel tests. The calculation results agreed with ones of the tunnel tests, and the mechanism of pressure transients was made clear.

다차원 압축성 유동 해석을 위한 MLP 기법의 개발 (Development of Multi-dimensional Limiting Process for Multi-dimensional Compressible Flow)

  • 본 논문에서는 불연속면이 포함된 다차원 유동에서 흔히 발생하는 수치적 진동현상을 막기 위해 기존의 TVD 제한자를 분석함으로써 새로운 형태의 다차원 제한 함수를 유도하였다. MLP 기법은 유도된 다차원 제한 함수를 기반으로 하며, 다차원 불연속면에서의 수치 진동을 효과적으로 제거하고 동시에 3차 이상의 공간 정확도 내삽기법과 함께 사용할 수 있다는 장점을 갖는다. 또한, 정상 유동의 경우 수치 진동이 제거됨으로써 수렴성이 향상됨을 확인할 수 있었고, 실제 코드에 적용하는 방법도 간단하다. MLP 기법을 적용함으로써 불연속 유동 뿐 만 아니라 연속 유동에서도 정확성, 효율성, 강건성 면에서 향상된 결과를 얻을 수 있음을 여러 가지 수치 실험을 통하여 확인하였다.

지능형 포탄의 저 감속 회수장치를 이용한 포탄의 감속방법 (Deceleration Method of Munition to used Soft Recovery System for Smart Munition)

  • With the development of micro electronic circuits and optical equipment, the demand for developing smart munitions with the ability to autonomously search for and attack targets has increased. Since the electronic components within smart munitions are affected by high temperatures, pressure, and impulsive forces upon the combustion of gunpowder, stability and reliability need to be secured for them. Securing those stability and reliability requires soft recovery system which can decelerate smart munitions. A theoretical analysis of flow is performed for the secure recovery of bullets on the basis of Euler equation for compressible fluids. The inner pressure on a pressure tube, the speeds of bullets, and the deceleration of munitions are calculated theoretically. Theoretical results are compared with the data from the experiment with soft recovery system set up at the laboratory.

  • The lattice Boltzmann method(LBM) has attracted attention as an alternative numerical algorithm for solving fluid mechanics since the end of the 90's. In these days, its intrinsic unsteadiness and rapid increase in computing power make the LBM be more applicable for computing flow-induced noise as well as fluid dynamics. The lattice Boltzmann method is a weakly compressible scheme, so we can get information about both aerodynamics and aeroacoustics from single simulation. In this paper, numerical analysis on Aeolian tone noise generated by tandem-twin square cylinders in duct is performed using the LBM. For simplicity, laminar two-dimensional fluid models are used. To verify the validity and accuracy of the current numerical techniques, numerical results for the laminar duct and the cylinder flows are compared with the analytical solution and the measurement, respectively. Then, aerodynamic noise of the twin tandem square cylinders is investigated. It is shown that the aerodynamic noise from the twin tandem square cylinders can be reduced by controlling the distance between the cylinders.

  • 원자로에서 펌프에 의해 야기되는 맥동 압력은 원자로 내부 구조물에 진동과 손상을 줄 수 있기 때문에 관심이 증가되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 냉각관과 환형관(원자로 압력 용기와 노심 보호 지지대 사이)으로 구성된 기하 형태에서 펌프에 의해 야기되는 맥동 압력을 해석할 수 있는 수력학적 모델을 개발하였다. 수학적 지배 방정식은 압축성, 비점성 유체에 대해 선형화된 Navier-Stokes 방정식이다. 냉각관과 환형관을 따로 분리하여 해석하고 두영역의 커플링 영향을 고려하였다. 또한 본 기하 형태에서 펌프맥동 압력에 영향을 미치는 주요 기하 인자에 대한 평가를 수행하였다. 본 해석 결과와 실험차를 비교하여 만족할 만한 결과를 얻었다.
