  • Purpose: Express mail service(EMS) supplied by 'Korea POST'is an international postal service which brings letters, documents and parcels to a destination abroad in the fastest and safest way. This service is in a tough competition with global companies such as TNT, FedEx, DHL or UPS. To build an effective strategy for being competitive, an intensive study on EMS service quality should be accomplished from a customer's perspective. Methods: Kano model and improvement gap analysis are used to categorize and prioritize EMS service quality attributes. A 5-point Lickert scale is employed to apply the Kano model and improvement gap analysis. Each quality attribute can be classified as weak in comparison with competitors, critical for improvement, or potentially competitive. Results: Price, on-time delivery and delivery quality are to be kept as is; fast delivery, parking convenience and staff expertise can be potentially competitive; and the other attributes are considered to be critical for improvement. Conclusions: Fast reimbursement and proper compensation when shipping items are lost or damaged are to be improved with high priority. Efforts to secure fast delivery, parking convenience and staff expertise are needed to be competitive in the future.

  • Indonesia has successfully increased its ranking to 40th place in the 2019 Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index. While tourism has become the country's second largest foreign exchange contributor, there is no existing competitive advantage model for Indonesian tourist destinations. The purpose and novelty of this study is to develop and formulate a competitive advantage model for Indonesia's tourism industry. The model will be based on the supply-side perception analysis of competitiveness indicators from Bali and five designated super-priority destinations in Indonesia. This model is expected to become a guideline for policymakers to design an effective and focused strategy. Data were obtained from in-depth interviews with, and questionnaires given to, 62 qualified industry players from the public and private sectors. This data-driven approach builds a relationship between competitiveness indicators and competitive advantages using a combination of importance-performance analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, thereby leveraging these advantages to generate a strategic model to compete in the international tourism industry. This would also be the first study to use this method in defining the competitive advantage of a destination. Using structural equation modeling, the study found that there are 54 indicators representing twelve dimensions of competitive advantages with good fit criteria.

  • Nash Equilibrium (NE) is as useful tool for investigating a participant's strategic generation quantity in a competitive electricity market. Cournot model may give a mixed strategy NE instead of a pure strategy when transmission constraints are considered. A mixed strategy is difficult to compute, complicated to understand conceptually, and hard to implement in an electricity market practically. This paper presents that a mixed strategy does not appear in Stackelberg leader-follower model even under a transmission congestion. A solution method is proposed for the leader-follower model under a nondifferentiable space of a strategy variable. Based on the pure strategy NE with a transmission line congested, the merit of leader-follower model is shown from a social welfare point of view.

  • Recently, the assessment of a bank efficiency focusing on its branches has been conceived as important in developing a competitive strategy. DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) model can be employed as an effective analysis model for such an assessment. Therefore, this paper proposes an analysis process using DEA model to conduct an efficiency assessment of bank branches. The proposed process includes a segmentation of branches considering their competitive environment and strategy for target market : this approach can help to develop effective strategies for each group of branches. The proposed DEA model can analyze efficiency in terms of not only cost but also marketing. Finally, a real case is analyzed, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed model and process.

  • While forecasting sales of a new product is very difficult, it is critical to market success. This is especially true when other products have a highly negative influence on the product because of competition effect. In this paper, we develop a choice-based competitive diffusion model and apply to the case where two digital mobile telecommunication services, that is, digital cellular and PCS services, compete. The basic premise is that demand patterns result from choice behavior, where customers choose a product to maximize their utility. In comparison with Bass-type competitive diffusion models, our model provides superior fitting and forecasting performance. The choice-based model is useful in that it enables the description of such competitive environments and provides the flexibility to include marketing mix variables such as price and advertising.

  • For venturing into international markets, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have not only emphasized internal resources but entrepreneurial orientation has also become the need of the day due to its significant role in increasing firm's competitive capabilities. Although research indicates that the competitive strategies can significantly impact export performance, minor attention is given to the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation, business competitive strategy and export performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This study scrutinizes the effect of each dimension of entrepreneurial orientation (i.e., innovativeness, risk-taking, and proactiveness) and each of generic competitive strategies (i.e., cost leadership and differentiation) on the export performance of Chinese SMEs. And we investigated the moderating effect of entrepreneurial orientation on the relationship between the competitive strategies and export performance. We surveyed 217 Chinese SMEs through a structured questionnaire. For the data analysis and hypotheses testing, we used AMOS. 27. The findings display that differentiation and cost leadership strategies significantly improve export performance. The innovativeness, risk-taking and proactiveness also spur Chinese SME's export performance. Further we find that adding entrepreneurial orientation significantly improves our model of the relationship between the competitive strategies and export performance. Thus, our study extends the entrepreneurial orientation literature and provides interesting new insights into how entrepreneurial orientation helps firms create more successful export operations.
