For this purpose, pre and post course surveys were conducted on 156 students taking classes at English Lounge in the second semester of 2020. Paired t-test was run on the responses of the pre and post-questionnaire to identify any differences in global competency of the students before and after taking the classes. The results show that the English Lounge programs have significantly contributed to the improvement of students' global competency. The programs have had a different impact on enhancing participants' global competencies and Group Speak is found to have the greatest impact on global competency improvement. In case of Virtual Exchange, students' global competency has improved the most though the results are not statistically meaningful due to not enough sample size. For the differences in effectiveness of the four types of Open Activity, significant results are not obtained due to insufficient sample numbers. This study is expected lead to the development of various types of English Lounge programs that can contribute to enhancing global competency of students.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the current status of dietary habits and dietary life competency of elementary school parents, who are influential to the dietary life of their children and family. A survey was conducted with 362 elementary school parents living in Seoul and Gyeonggi province by using a self-administered questionnaire consisting of 53 questions on dietary habits, dietary life competency, home cooking frequency, and dietary education needs. The results were as follows: The scores of dietary habits and dietary life competency were 76.35 and 74.51 out of 100, respectively, suggesting a need for improvement. Parents with higher monthly income, demonstrated higher scores of both dietary habits and dietary life competency (p<0.001). As expected, female parents showed higher scores of dietary life competency than male parents (p<0.01). there was also a close relationship between the scores of dietary habits and dietary life competency (r=0.58). The parents with high scores for dietary habits and dietary life competency showed a significantly higher frequency of home cooking (p<0.001) compared to medium- or low-scored parents. Most parents answered that dietary education need to be started earlier, and that their main source of dietary life information was mass media. They also showed a preference for real experience and practice for dietary education. The above results showed that there is a close relationship between dietary habits and dietary life competency, and suggest that continuous education is necessary to improve the dietary habits and dietary life competency of elementary school parents. Because monthly income appeared to be the most influential socioeconomic factor for the parents' dietary habits and dietary life competency, continuous efforts on dietary education are necessary to reduce the score gaps in these categories.

  • This study was performed in order to provide suggestions on how to strengthen librarian competency by evaluating and analyzing the competency value of librarians as information professions. First, the study divided the common competency value of librarians as human capital of libraries into skills, knowledge, behavior and attitude, and analyzed each area of competency value for librarians of the A-library. As a result, the average of the 'librarian's behavior and attitude' area was the highest, followed by the 'librarian's skill' area and the 'librarian's knowledge' area. Second, in terms of 'librarian's skill', A-library librarians' competence values were high in the order of 'communication', 'leadership', 'technology' and in the terms of 'librarian's knowledge' ones were high in the order of 'law and policy', 'marketing', 'learning and growth' and 'finance and accounting'. In addition, in areas of 'librarian's behavior and attitude', the factors were high in the order of 'ethics and values', 'interpersonal relationships' and 'customer service'. Third, the analysis of whether the average difference exists depending on the characteristics of A-library librarians on their evaluation of the competency value shows that only the 'working period' factor in the total competency value and the two factors 'age' and 'working period' were statistically significant in the 'librarian's knowledge' area. Forth, as a result of a regression analysis to identify the characteristics of A-library librarians and their impact on competency value, only the 'final education' factor was statistically significant for the competency value of the 'librarian's skill' area. Fifth, in the survey on problems and desirable improvement measures in increasing the competency value of librarians, the proportion of presenting problems and improvement plan in systemic aspects such as the 'librarian qualification system' and 'librarian training system' was high.

Method : Data were collected from August 28th to October 8th, 2015, from 199 ICU nurses working in 30 tertiary hospitals. The study questionnaire included items assessing the patient-centered communication competency of ICU nurses, nursing organizational culture, types of communication, the Teamwork Measurement Tool, the Perceived Nursing Work Environment tool, and the Wong & Law Emotional Intelligence Scale. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, a correlation test, and a multiple regression. Results : The ICU nurses' mean score on patient-centered communication competency was 3.97 points. The factors influencing the patient-centered communication competency level of ICU nurses were professionalism (p =.002), innovation-oriented organizational culture (p =.015), and emotional intelligence (p<.001). These variables explained 42.2% of the total variance in the patient-centered communication competency of ICU nurses.
