  • The characteristics of an induction motor vary with the number of parameters and the performance relationship between the parameters also is implicit. In case of the induction motor design, we generally should estimate many objective physical quantities in the optimization procedure. In this article, the multi objective design optimization based on genetic algorithm is applied for the three phase induction motor. The efficiency, starting torque, and material cost are selected for the objectives. The validity of the design results is also clarified by comparison between calculated results and measured ones.

  • In this paper, a laboratory model test was conducted to evaluate grouting efficiency of ordinary portland cement(OPC) and micro cement used in MIS(Micro-Injection Process System). For this research, a injection equipment was developed for pressure permeation which can evenly simulate various grouting tests in a laboratory and suggested a standard for the production of the test specimen. Using the injection device, the laboratory injection tests of grouts were prepared with water/cement ratio of 1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 4:1, and 5:1. The analysis of injection test for pressure permeation showed that the efficiency of injection increases linearly as the water/cement ratio increases. Comparison of efficiency of the injection indicates that MIS with a relatively smaller average diameter shows more efficient injection than the OPC. In the low ratio of water/cement as 2:1~1:1, the injection efficiency of OPC was especially poor. Also, a nonlinear grout volume-injection time is represented by a hyperbolic model and grout volume predicted by hyperbolic model was compared with the value measured. From the comparison, it shows that the hyperbolic model has the potential of evaluating the efficiency of grouting.

  • In this study, to research in-cylinder flow characteristics of spark-ignited engine with intake valve closing timing change for Miller cycle. 3D simulation study were used 6 different intake valve profile with $CAD10^{\circ}$ gap for retard intake valve closing timing. Comparison of In-cylinder flow pattern characteristic were accompanied between Base and LIVC. And the efficiency of volume and the work of compression were analyzed with simulation study. When intake valve closing angle was retarded in $CAD50^{\circ}$, the pressure in cylinder was decreased about 12~13 bar and volume efficiency was reduced about 16%. The efficiency of volume and the work of compression were reduced on LIVC.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate practical advantage in using maximizing efficiency control strategy in induction motor drives for electric vehicles. A maximizing efficiency control strategy consist of a flux estimation with direct field oriented controller is proposed and compared with the general constant flux control strategy. The comparison is carried out by simulation. The results are included to show the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in the electric vehicle applications.

  • A study on experimental method of the model test for the impulse turbine is carried out. the wave simulator is used to reproduce the real wave condition. It controls two parameter correspond to wave height and wave frequency. The optimum design which is reported by T. Setoguchi is manufactured and tested for the validation of our test facilities. The comparison of model test show that our facilities produce little bit higher efficiency at maximum efficiency point. To increase the efficiency of turbine, the new rotor with negative tip clearance is designed and being tested.

  • Sea-ports in Northern Vietnam have experienced a rapid growth of container throughput volume in recent years. To accompany with such development, huge investments also have been performed to enhance local ports capacity. It becomes a crucial task for the port authorities or the port stevedoring industry to improve the ports efficiency in order to customize national resources. In this paper, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is employed to evaluate the relative efficiency of container terminals in Northern Vietnam by collecting data from terminals since 2005 up to now. The development progress of the given terminals will be presented before providing a relative comparison among those year by year. The DEA result is then analyzed and suggestions with regard to changes in local economic environment in near future are contributed.

  • Multivariate data are often generated with multiple outcomes in various fields. Multiple outcomes could be mixed as continuous and discrete. Because of their complexity, the data are often dealt with by separately applying regression analysis to each outcome even though they are associated the each other. This univariate approach results in the low efficiency of estimates for parameters. We study the efficiency gains of the multivariate approaches relative to the univariate approach with the mixed data that include continuous and binary outcomes. All approaches yield consistent estimates for parameters with complete data. By jointly estimating parameters using multivariate methods, it is generally possible to obtain more accurate estimates for parameters than by a univariate approach. The association between continuous and binary outcomes creates a gap in efficiency between multivariate and univariate approaches. We provide a guidance to analyze the mixed data.

  • The Recently, several countries have been affected by respiratory diseases, resulting in renewed research interest in their prevention and control. One such example was the 2015 outbreak of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) in South Korea and COVID-19. In this study, we performed experiments and simulations based on concentration decay using CO2 as the tracer gas to elucidate the pollutant-removal efficiency for different inlet and exhaust locations and outdoor air-supply ratios. The wall inlet exhibited a higher pollutant-removal efficiency, owing to the upward movement of the air from the lower zone to the upper one. In conclusion, it is recommended that a total air-conditioning plan for isolation rooms be established as well as efficient system operation for pollutant removal and air-flow control to prevent the transmission of infections from the patients to others.

  • Series expansion methods to compute the exponential of a matrix have been compared by applying them to fuel depletion calculations. Specifically, Taylor, Pade, Chebyshev, and rational Chebyshev approximations have been investigated by approximating the exponentials of bum matrices by truncated series of each method with the scaling and squaring algorithm. The accuracy and efficiency of these methods have been tested by performing various numerical tests using one thermal reactor and two fast reactor depletion problems. The results indicate that all the four series methods are accurate enough to be used for fuel depletion calculations although the rational Chebyshev approximation is relatively less accurate. They also show that the rational approximations are more efficient than the polynomial approximations. Considering the computational accuracy and efficiency, the Pade approximation appears to be better than the other methods. Its accuracy is better than the rational Chebyshev approximation, while being comparable to the polynomial approximations. On the other hand, its efficiency is better than the polynomial approximations and is similar to the rational Chebyshev approximation. In particular, for fast reactor depletion calculations, it is faster than the polynomial approximations by a factor of ∼ 1.7.

  • In this paper, a sequential test procedure is defined by using cumulative sum (CUSUM) of statistics. The properties as well as the efficiency of the CUSUM test are studied in comparison with the sequential probability ratio test (SPRT). It was shown that, the operating characteristic function and the average sample numbrer can be derived by Wald and Wiener process approximations. Also it was shown that the statistics used in the CUSUM test is determined to provide asymtotically equivalent efficiency compared to the SPRT. The efficiency of the CUSUM test and the SPRT are cpmpared by an example for some limited number of cases in the exponential distribution.
