Purpose: The aim of this study was to verify psychosocial issues faced by psychiatric and community mental health nurse practitioners (PCMHNP) working in community mental health centers, and to identify the adaptation processes used to resolve the issues. Methods: Data were collected through in-depth interviews between December 2013 and August 2014. Participants were 11 PCMHNP working in community mental health centers. Analysis was done using the grounded theory methodology. The first question was "How did you start working at a community mental health center; what were the difficulties you faced during your employment and how did you resolve them?" Results: The core category was 'regulating within relationships.' The adaptation process was categorized into three sequential stages: 'nesting,' 'hanging around the nest,' and 'settling into the nest.' Various action/interaction strategies were employed in these stages. The adaptation results from using these strategies were 'psychiatric nursing within life' and 'a long way to go.' Conclusion: The results of this study are significant as they aid in understanding the psychosocial adaptation processes of PCMHNP working in community mental health centers, and indicate areas to be addressed in the future in order for PCMHNP to fulfill their professional role in the local community.
This study was conducted to examine the influence of the psychological health of the released offenders on their adaptation to community. Researchers analyzed the survey data of 216 participants who received joint marriage support from the Korea Legal Protection and Welfare Corporation. The results showed that the education level, marriage status, and monthly income were having a positive influence on the community adaptation of the released offenders, and the higher the depression and inter-personality among the risk factors of psychological health, the more negative the community adaptation. A higher sense of self-esteem, a psychological health protection factor, has a positive effect on community adaptation while reducing the influence of risk factors, depression and inter-personality. In sum, high self-esteem can contribute to increasing social life satisfaction after release from prison, promote risk factors to positive life changes, suppress negative situations and increase the possibility of successful community adaptation. Although this study confirmed that self-esteem is the most important factor among psychological factors for successful community adaptation of inmates, it will require relevant follow-up research and multi-disciplinary support because psychological factors alone cannot solve the problem.
Purpose: This study was conducted to assess the breast feeding rate and maternal adaptation of mothers with infants and children in early childhood in a community. Methods: This descriptive study was conducted from November to December 2015, and included a total of 283 mothers of infants and children in early childhood. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, the ${\chi}^2-test$, and one way ANOVA. Results: The rates of breast feeding after birth were 76.3% (1 month postpartum), 69.3% (3 months postpartum), 53.4% (6 months postpartum), 32.2% (9 months postpartum), and 22.6% (12 months postpartum). The level of maternal adaptation of subjects was $3.78{\pm}0.54$. Subjects who were breastfed until 9 months postpartum had a higher level of maternal adaptation than those who stopped breast feeding at 1 month postpartum (F=3.926, p<.002). The breast feeding rate of subjects who were educated about breast feeding after childbirth was significantly higher than that of those who did not receive breast feeding education after delivery. Conclusion: To increase the breast feeding rate and maternal adaptation, community health nurses should develop and provide breast feeding programs to mothers soon after childbirth.
The aim of this study is to explore the school adaptation and aggression of the children selected from 3 different SES communities and to investigate how parenting styles and children' school adaptation and aggression are different according to community-level socio-economic status. Subjects were 441 elementary school graders(229 boys and 212 girls, from the 4th graders to the 6th graders. Community SES was measured by the proportion of adult population holding a bachelor's degree or higher among the whole adults aged more than 30 and divided into 3 regions(rated high, middle and low in the metropolitan city). Data analysis was by F-test and multiple regression. The children from the high and middle SES community were more adaptive to school and less aggressive than those from the lower SES community. And the parents(or caregivers) from the high and middle SES community were more authoritative than those from other regions. These findings tell us that the children from the lower SES community are at risk and that some special programs to support children and their parents are needed.
The objective of this study is to figure out some specific features that were found during the adaptation process of migrant women by marriage to their local community, and also to elicit certain practical implications to facilitate their adaptation, based on the findings. For data collection, in-depth interviews were conducted with eight migrant women by marriage and the interviews were tape-recorded for transcription. For analysis, phenomenological method, particularly, Colaizzi method was adopted, by which meaningful statements in the data were categorized into themes and theme clusters. A total of 7 thematic unts, 17 themes and 47 meanings were elicited from the analysis and these 7 thematic units were "reinforcement of inner capability"; "cultural assimilation"; "to be a limited benefit receiver"; "no human network"; " impossible to be optimistic about future"; "hoping to reside in their local community"; "possible to leave Korea." Finally, this study suggested the implications for social welfare practices to facilitate the adaptation of immigrant women by marriage in their local community.

Objectives: This study was conducted to analyze the mediating effect of self-identity on the relationship between aggression and school life adaptation of early adolescents. Methods: This study used the 5th-year data of the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) including 159 middle school 2nd students from single-parent families. The data was analyzed with open source statistics program R 3.5.0 to determine whether self-identity had a mediating effect on school life adaptation as an independent variable. Results: A moderate correlation was found among aggression, self-identity, and school life adaptation. As a result of the Sobel test, self-identity of early adolescents demonstrated a significant mediating effect on the relationship between aggression and school life adaptation. Conclusions: Given the significant mediating factor of self-identity, the strategies for early adolescents to boost their overall school life adaptation should be considered through intervention programs that help to enhance their self-identity.
This research purposed to verify the effects of children's peer attachment, community spirit, and multi-cultural acceptability on their adaptation to school. Also, I verified the difference of school life adaptation according to the degrees of peer communication, trust, alienation, community spirit, and multi-cultural acceptability. This research utilized Korean Children and Adolescent Panel Survey data to get more comprehensive and objective research result. As a result, the children who had higher peer attachment relationships (with more peer communication and better trust), higher community spirit, and higher level of multi-cultural awareness and acceptability adapted to school better. In particular, peer attachment had the highest effect on the children's school adaptation, community spirit next, followed by multi-cultural acceptability. Therefore, children's education needs to enhance their intimacy with peer groups, compliance with basic norms in school communities, and arouse rightful multi-cultural awareness in order to help them adapt to school better.
