Interocular interactions evoked by asynchronous checkerboard pattern reversals to each eye

  • To examine iterocular interactions in normal subjects, we recorded EEG activity from channel O1 and O2 on 14 healthy subjects while checkerboard pattern reversals were presented to each eye with different interstimulus intervals (ISIs) ranging from 0 to 218 ms. When pattern reversals were presented asynchronously to each eye, P-1 activity evoked by each reversal was significantly suppressed compared to the activation evoked by synchronous reversals. Furthermore, when there was time delay between pattern reversals to each eye, theta (4-10 Hz) band power was also significantly decreased, whereas beta (10-30 Hz) band power was relatively preserved. Our results suggest that neural activity evoked by sustained but not yet reversed checkerboard from one eye might inhibit upcoming neural response evoked by reversed checkerboard from the other eye. Decreased P-1 activity might reflect such inhibitory interaction between two eyes. Also, decreased theta and preserved beta band power might reflect engagement of different neural circuit for binocular / monocular vision.

유아의 정서조절전략과 어머니 반응의 실험연구 (An Experimental Study of Preschoolers' Strategies for Emotional Regulation and Their Mothers' Responses)

  • The purposes of this study were firstly, to examine the emergence of complex strategies for emotional regulation in 3 and 4 years old children, and secondly, to analyze the corresponding relationship of the preschoolers' strategies for emotional regulation and their mothers' responses. The subjects comprised 66 preschoolers(33 boys, 33 girls) and their mothers in J city. The results were as follows. First, the preschoolers' strategies for emotional regulation in frustrating episodes occurred in the following order; instrumental behaviors, cognitive reappraisal, distraction behaviors, and comforting behaviors. Second, the mother's responses to frustrating episodes occurred in the following order; cognitive reappraisal, instrumental behaviors, comforting behaviors, and distraction behaviors. Third, the corresponding relationship of the preschooler's strategies for emotional regulation and the mothers' responses to frustrating episodes were found to be of a similar patterns (e.g. preschoolers' cognitive reappraisal strategy and mothers' cognitive reappraisal response).

Joint Beamforming and Power Allocation for Multiple Primary Users and Secondary Users in Cognitive MIMO Systems via Game Theory

  • We consider a system where a licensed radio spectrum is shared by multiple primary users(PUs) and secondary users(SUs). As the spectrum of interest is licensed to primary network, power and channel allocation must be carried out within the cognitive radio network so that no excessive interference is caused to PUs. For this system, we study the joint beamforming and power allocation problem via game theory in this paper. The problem is formulated as a non-cooperative beamforming and power allocation game, subject to the interference constraints of PUs as well as the peak transmission power constraints of SUs. We design a joint beamforming and power allocation algorithm for maximizing the total throughput of SUs, which is implemented by alternating iteration of minimum mean square error based decision feedback beamforming and a best response based iterative power allocation algorithm. Simulation results show that the algorithm has better performance than an existing algorithm and can converge to a locally optimal sum utility.

디지털 지식상품의 가격수용도와 구매인지부조화 영향요인에 관한 연구 (Factors Influencing the Price Acceptability and Cognitive Dissonance for the Purchaser of Digital Knowledge Goods)

  • Digital knowledge and information goods as experience goods have some unique characteristics such as close to zero reproduction and distribution cost, high price volatility, and low price acceptability. For the reasons, the pricing policies of digital knowledge goods are very difficult and complicate. Also, most consumers of digital goods have experienced cognitive dissonance after buying decision. The purpose of this paper is to investigate what factors affect the price acceptability level and cognitive dissonance of digital knowledge goods buyers. This paper suggest a structural model that was established by the cognitive dissonance theory and S-O-R(Stimulus-Organization-Response) model. The model is consisted of four exogenous variables and three endogenous variables. The empirical test and statistical analysis suggest following results and practical implications. The variables such as product involvement and perception of price fairness that have positive roles to price acceptability have strong influence on the all the three endogenous variables. But the variables such as sale proneness and price mavenism that have negative roles to price acceptability have little influence on the all the three endogenous variables. In the model, the payment intention was very important mediating variable between exogenous variables and two dependent variables, ie. price acceptability and cognitive dissonance. These results imply that the digital knowledge portals must have some differentiated pricing policies to the customers who have price consciousness and price mavenism. Also, they need some special promotions to whom have positive attitude to the value of digital goods.

A Study of the Relationship Between Cognitive Ability and Information Searching Performance

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a framework for predicting searching performance through an understanding of how cognitive ability relates to searching process and outcome. Specifically, this study examined the relationship between spatial visualization, logical reasoning, integrative reasoning, and information searching process and outcome. Information searching process was assessed by seven search process indicators: (1) search command selection: (2) combination of search commands; (3) application of Boolean logic: (4) application of truncation; (5) use of limit search function; (6) number of search statements; and (7) number of search errors made. Searching outcome was assessed by the number of correct answers to search questions. Subjects first took three standardized cognitive tests that measured cognitive abilities, and performed online catalog searching in response to seven information search questions. The searches were logged using Lotus ScreenCam, and reviewed for the analysis. Factor analysis was used to find underlying structures of the seven search process variables. Multiple regression analysis was applied to examine the predictive power of three cognitive variables on three extracted factors, and search outcome. Results of the data analysis showed that individual differences in logical reasoning could predict information searching process and outcome.

ERP로 확인되는 인지정보 처리에 대한 정서 점화효과 (Affective Priming Effect on Cognitive Processes Reflected by Event-related Potentials)

  • 본 연구는 스트룹(Stroop)과제를 이용하여 정서가(affective valence)로 구성된 역하의 정서유발 점화자극이 인지과제 수행에 영향을 미치는지와 일반인에서도 정서장애 환자와 같은 지표가 나타나는지를 반응시간과 ERP(사건관련전위) 패턴으로 확인해 보고자 하였다. 측정된 데이터는 정서가(긍정 및 부정)와 일치여부로 수행되는 인지과제의 조합으로 제시되어 수집되었고, 전위변화의 특성인 진폭과 정점 잠복기를 기준으로 그 효과가 검증되었다. 먼저 반응시간 행동분석 결과, 중립 정서자극을 제외한 역하의 정서자극에 의해 목표과제의 반응을 촉진하는 결과를 확인할 수 있었다. 아울러 부가적으로 수집된 사건관련전위를 분석한 결과, 불일치 요인이 결합된 부정적 정서정보가 긍정적 정서정보에 비해 더 높은 음전위 및 지연된 잠복기를 보임으로써 표정과 관련된 정서유발-특정적인 N2효과를 확인하였다. 그리고 동일한 조건에서 긍정조건에 비해 유의한 차이의 양전위와 함께 더 짧은 잠복기를 보이는, 인지적 판단과정의 차이를 시사하는 P300의 효과도 관찰하였다. 이는 역하의 부정적 정서정보가 인지처리과정에서 자동적으로 억제되는 경향과 함께 해당 정서의 탐지를 가속시키는 한편, 주의자원의 적절한 재분배를 가능케 하여 목표자극의 반응을 촉진시킨 것으로 해석할 수 있으며, 기능적이고 인지적인 반응의 차이에서 역하효과를 비롯하여 과제 수행 정도에 영향을 끼치는 정서관련 재인과정의 중요성을 시사한다 할 수 있다.

장기간의 상호작용적 비디오 게임이 노인의 인지정보처리에 미치는 영향: P300 (The long-term effect of Interactive Video Game on Cognitive Information Processing the elderly: P300)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 장기간의 상호작용적 비디오 게임이 노인의 인지정보처리에 어떤 영향을 미치는지 알아보는데 있다. 본 연구에 참여할 피험자는 K시 D, J, K, W 노인복지관 노인 남·녀(65-70세) 250명 중 신체활동수준을 측정하여 신체활동이 낮은 수준(낮음: 3200kcal 이하/1주)을 보인 60명이며, 피험자들 모두 사전 동의를 거쳐 자발적으로 본 실험에 참여하였다. 선정된 모든 피험자들은 난수표를 이용하여 무선 할당되어 (1) 상호작용적 비디오게임 집단(20명) (2) 유산소운동(20명) (3) 통제집단(20명)으로 배정하였다. 본 연구의 실험설계는 3(집단)×2(사전사후)에 대해 반복 측정 이원분산분석을 실시했다. 종속변수는 인지기능 척도(주의집중력, 지연 기억력, 단기기억 능력, 즉각 기억력, 언어 유창성, 전두엽 운동기능), ERP 분석에서는 P300의 진폭과 잠재기, 반응시간과 정확률이다. 연구결과에서 인지기능과 ERP 분석에서 운동수행의 반응시간과 반응 정확률 및 진폭과 잠재기에서 상호작용적 비디오게임 집단과 유산소 운동집단은 유의미한 통계적 차이가 없었으나, 상호작용적 비디오게임 집단과 유산소 운동(걷기운동)집단이 통제집단보다 향상된 결과를 보였다. 이러한 연구결과는 인지적 운동인 상호작용적 비디오게임과 같은 유산소운동의 꾸준한 참여는 노인의 인지기능 쇠퇴방지에 좋은 영향을 미칠 수 있다고 여겨진다.

Effect of Driver's Cognitive Distraction on Driver's Physiological State and Driving Performance

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate effect of driver's cognitive distraction on driver's physiological state and driving performance, and then to determine parameters appropriate for detecting the cognitive distraction. Background: Driver distraction is a major cause of traffic accidents and poses a serious threat to traffic safety due to ever increasing use of in-vehicle information systems and mobile phones during driving. Cognitive distraction, among four different types of distractions, prevents a driver from processing traffic information correctly and adapting to change in surround vehicle behavior in time. However, the cognitive distraction is more difficult to detect because it normally does not involve significant change in driver behavior. Method: A full-scale driving simulator was used to create virtual driving environment and situations. Participants in the experiment drove the driving simulator in three different conditions: attentive driving with no secondary task, driving and conducting secondary task of adding numbers, and driving and conducting secondary task of conversing with an experimenter. Parameters related with driver's physiological state and driving performance were measured and analyzed for their change. Results: The experiment results show that driver's cognitive distraction, induced by secondary task of addition and conversation during driving, increased driver's cognitive workload, and indeed brought change in driver's physiological state and degraded driving performance. Conclusion: The galvanic skin response, pupil size, steering reversal rate, and driver reaction time are shown to be statistically significant for detecting cognitive distraction. The appropriate combination of these parameters will be used to detect the cognitive distraction and estimate risk of traffic accidents in real-time for a driver distraction warning system.

경피두개직류자극 적용 시 비활성 전극의 위치가 뇌졸중 환자의 인지반응에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Applying tDCS by Inactive Electrode Placement to Cognitive Response on Stroke Patients)

  • Purpose : This study was to identify the effect of cognitive reaction following inactive electrode placement when applying anodal transcranial direct current stimulation over the primary motor cortex. Methods : For this study a total of 28 stroke patients participated. Before applying transcranial direct current stimulation, cognitive reaction was measured (P300 of event related potential, cognitive reaction time), and subjects were randomly assigned to two group. Transcranial direct current stimulation was applied to the scalp with an intensity of $0.04mA/cm^2$ for 15 minutes. All subjects were given an anode transcranial direct current stimulation over the primary motor area and inactive electrodes over the deltoid muscle (group I) and supra-orbital area (group II). Cognitive reactions were measured after applying transcranial direct current stimulation. Results : For this study a total of 28 stroke patients participated. IT 서비스 상황에서의 심리적 기제 : 갈등, 만족, 신뢰 그리고 몰입 (Explicating Moderating Effects of Conflict in the Psychological Mechanism in IT Service Engagement)

  • In IT service quality research, the relationship between the service quality and clients' satisfaction was the focus of many studies while in relationship quality research, the influence of trust and conflict on relationship commitment seems to be the focus. In this study, these two research streams are integrated and a theoretical research model is proposed consisting of IT service quality, satisfaction, trust and relationship commitment with conflict as a moderator for the overall psychological mechanism. As satisfaction represents emotional response while trust cognitive response, this research model integrated both emotional and cognitive aspects of relationship maintenance in the IT service context. Analysis of data collected from 262 employees of global IT service firm revealed the differential effects of reliability, responsiveness, assurance and empathy on satisfaction and trust. Also, depending upon the level of conflict, the effects of reliability and assurance were found to be moderated. Further analysis revealed more profound mechanism at work relating emotional and cognitive aspects in the psychology of relationship maintenance in IT service context. Practical implications are further discussed in the conclusion.
