  • Recently, Importance of Generator's Active/Reactive Power Control Capability is highly emphasized for prevention of Large Blackout. Especially, Generator's frequency Response Capability is important to the Power System Frequency Stability. This paper deals with the Development & Implementation of Each Generator Frequency Response Capability Test via the Injection of Artificial Frequency to the Online Generator. Actual On-line Generator's frequency Response Test was successfully implemented to 13 Generator having various fuel source.

  • Generation by the privately owned generators, which are normally operated has occupied about 10% of total generation. Recently the small co-generation employed gas engine has been introduced and attracted public interest. For privately owned generator to be paralleled Utilities, a customer complies with Generator Parallel Operation Guideline set by Utilities and installs related protective relays. But the guideline is not specified to small co-generation, only provides parallel operation of privately owned generator. So applying this guideline, initial investment can be too high comparing to total co-generation cost. Besides there is no specified guide about ALTS, which arises asynchronous problem. In this paper we analyzed guideline and technical problem when small co-generation is paralleled. And additionally needed researching area to improve distribution of small co-generation is discussed.

  • This paper proposes establishment of generator maintenance scheduling(GMS) considering minimization of $CO_2$ emissions. The objective function model to minimize $CO_2$ emissions is used in this paper. In this paper, and also, GMS is established due to freedom of GMS of generators owned by a designated generation company. The practicality and effectiveness of the proposed approach are demonstrated by simulation studies for a real size power system model in Korea in 2010.

  • This paper presents a method for the derivation of model parameters of a co-generation system using data measured through on-site generator characteristic testing and validates its model parameters. Dynamic models such as generator, excitation system, and turbine/governor are mainly dealt in this paper. For the purpose of validation of derived model parameters, the measured results are compared with simulation results. The comparisons between measured results and simulation results show good match.

  • Thermal and mechanical stresses, caused by repetitive start and stop and load fluctuation during long time operation, on winding stator bars are one of the main causes for electrical degradation of insulating materials. To understand the degradation process, we manufactured bar specimens with the same processes that make generator winding stator bars and the specimens were subjected to various degrees of thermal cycling. Measurements of the insulation properties, such as dissipation factor, tip-up and partial discharge, for un-aged specimens and for specimens aged by thermal cycling at 50, 100, 250, 500 and 1000 thermal cycles were performed. Finally all specimens were tested to obtain electrical breakdown voltages. In this paper we present the data and electrical degradation analysis results obtained during this program.

  • A chaos signal is used in all fields like engineering, a medical science and a biology very much, and study regarding the digital communication system that used a recent chaos signal is consisting actively. Applied a chaos signal in a digital communication system, and this paper designed six chaos signal generator to have been composed of by nonlinear equations as used System Generator, and implemented hardware to FPGA. Loaded bit stream to a FPGA board in order to verify this design to Hardware co-simulation from these results. Also, compared as investigated the maximum action frequency through timing analysis and resource of logic in order to evaluate performance of six chaos generator.

A Study on Fire Alarm Test of IoT Multi-Fire Detector combined Smoke/CO and Smoke/Temperature Sensors (연기/CO 및 연기/열 복합형 IoT 멀티 화재 감지기의 화재감지실험 연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop IoT multi-fire detectors combined smoke/carbon monoxide/heat and wireless IoT communication and to confirm the detect performance by smoke generator fire test and cotton wicks fire test. Method: The IoT multi-fire detector combined smoke and CO and combined smoke and heat were experimented the detect performance by smoke generator test and fire test of cotton wicks. And the case of fire alarm was checked. Result: The IoT multi-fire detector combined smoke and CO rung the alarm at the fire test of cotton wicks, did not ring the alarm at the smoke generator test. In comparison, the IoT multi-fire detector combined smoke and heat did not ring the alarm both at the smoke generator test and the fire test of cotton wicks. Conclusion: The IoT multi-fire detector combined smoke and CO detected the only smoke including the carbon monoxide and the IoT multi-fire detector combined smoke and heat did not ring the alarm for lack of heat. As a result, when the developed IoT multi-fire detector was detected the signal more than the set point, the fire alarm was sounded through cotton wicks fire test and smoke generator.

Self-Starting Excitation System with Low-Power Permanent Magnet Generator

  • This paper presents a high-efficiency low-power permanent magnet (PM) generator for the power supply of the generator exciter. In the conventional generator system, the power for the exciter is fed by the generator output power or an emergency battery for the starting. The proposed low-power PM generator can generate the proper power and voltage to excite the exciter field winding. According to the starting of the generator, the designed PM generator can supply the constant voltage to the Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR), then it can be used to control of exciter field current for the generator. Because of the designed PM generator which is placed inside the conventional generator system, the emergency battery and Potential Transducer(PT) for AVR can be removed. Thus, the total efficiency can be improved. The proposed generator system is tested in the practical system. And the efficiency characteristic is analyzed.

  • This paper includes a method for estimating the parameter of a synchronous generator and exciter using the modified particle swarm optimization. A solid round rotor synchronous generator and exciter have been modeled with the saturation function. They are regarded as state of being cooperative to a infinite bus. The behavior characteristic of all particles assigned to a parameter needs to be reflected in the PSO algorithm to fine out more close result to the optimal solution. The results of the simulation to estimate the parameters of the synchronous generator and exciter in the modified PSO algorithm are described.
