Energy efficiency is the main objective in the design of a wireless sensor network (WSN). In many applications, sensing data must be transmitted from sources to a sink in a timely manner. This paper describes an investigation of the trade-off between two objectives in WSN design: minimizing energy consumption and minimizing end-to-end delay. We first propose a new distributed clustering approach to determining the best clusterhead for each cluster by considering both energy consumption and end-to-end delay requirements. Next, we propose a new energy-cost function and a new end-to-end delay function for use in an inter-cluster routing algorithm. We present a multi-hop routing algorithm for use in disseminating sensing data from clusterheads to a sink at the minimum energy cost subject to an end-to-end delay constraint. The results of a simulation are consistent with our theoretical analysis results and show that our proposed performs much better than similar protocols in terms of energy consumption and end-to-end delay.

Over recent years, enormous amounts of research in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been conducted, due to its multifarious applications such as in environmental monitoring, object tracking, disaster management, manufacturing, monitoring and control. In some of WSN applications dependent the energy-efficient and link reliability are demanded. Hence, this paper presents a routing protocol that considers these two criteria. We propose a new mechanism called Reliable Routing Scheme for Energy-Balanced (RRSEB) to reduce the packets dropped during the data communications. It is based on Swarm Intelligence (SI) using the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) method. The RRSEB is a self-adaptive method to ensure the high routing reliability in WSNs, if the failures occur due to the movement of the sensor nodes or sensor node's energy depletion. This is done by introducing a new method to create alternative paths together with the data routing obtained during the path discovery stage. The goal of this operation is to update and offer new routing information in order to construct the multiple paths resulting in an increased reliability of the sensor network. From the simulation, we have seen that the proposed method shows better results in terms of packet delivery ratio and energy efficiency.

Microsensor nodes is energy limited in sensor networks. If nodes had been stop in working, sensor network can't acquire sensing data in that area as well as routing path though the sensor can't be available. So, it's important to maximize the life of network in sensor network. In this paper, we look at communication protocol, which is modified by LEACH(Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy). We extend LEACH's stochastic cluster-head selection algorithm by a Position-based Selection (PB-Leach). This method is that the sink divides the topology into several areas and cluster head is only one in an area. PB-Leach can prevent that the variance of the number of Cluster-Head is large and Cluster-Heads are concentrated in specific area. Simulation results show that PB-Leach performs better than leach by about 100 to $250\%.$

Efficient routing protocols designed for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) can be extended and applied to Internet of Things (IoT) data routing, as IoT can be considered to be an extension from WSN. When the size of the data in IoT is often bigger than in conventional WSNs, existing cluster routing protocol such as LEACH may cause high data loss rate due to its incomplete load balancing. We present an enhanced LEACH-based protocol which can minimize the data loss which is an important performance measure in IoT. In our proposed protocol, the base station estimates the location of nodes by the trilateration technique to make sure optimal number of cluster heads and members in a deterministic manner. We evaluate our proposed protocol via computer simulations in terms of data loss rate and average network lifetime.
The classical vehicle routing problem (VRP) can be extended by including customers who want to send goods to the depot. This type of VRP is called the vehicle routing problem with pickups and deliveries (VRPPD). This study proposes a novel way to solve VRPPD by introducing a two-phase heuristic routing algorithm which consists of a clustering phase and uses the geometrical center of a cluster and route establishment phase by applying a two-way search of each route after applying the TSP algorithm on each route. Experimental results show that the suggested algorithm can generate better initial solutions for more computer-intensive meta-heuristics than other existing methods such as the giant-tour-based partitioning method or the insertion-based method.

Recently, multicast routing protocols become increasingly important aspect in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs), as they effectively manage group communications. Meanwhile, multimedia and real-time applications are becoming essential need for users of MANET. Thus it is necessary to design efficient and effective Quality of Service (QoS) multicast routing strategies. In this paper, we address the scalability problem of multicast routing protocols to support QoS over MANETs. In particular, we introduce a Position-Based QoS Multicast Routing Protocol (PBQMRP). Basically, the protocol based on dividing the network area into virtual hexagonal cells. Then, the location information is exploited to perform efficient and scalable route discovery. In comparison with other existing QoS multicast routing protocols, PBQMRP incurs less control packets by eliminating network flooding behavior. Through simulation, the efficiency and scalability of PBQMRP are evaluated and compared with the well-known On-Demand Multicast Routing Protocol (ODMRP). Simulation results justify that our protocol has better performance, less control overhead and higher scalability.

In this paper, we propose a sink-location management and data-routing scheme to effectively support the mobile sink in solar-powered WSN. Battery-based wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have a limited lifetime due to their limited energy, but solar energy-based WSNs can be supplied with energy periodically and can operate forever. On the other hand, introduction of mobile sink in WSNs can solve some energy unbalance problem between sink-neighboring nodes and outer nodes which is one of the major challenges in WSNs. However, there is a problem that additional energy should be consumed to notify each sensor node of the location of the randomly moving mobile sink. In the proposed scheme, one of the nodes that harvests enough energy in each cluster are selected as the cluster head, and the location information of the mobile sink is shared only among the cluster heads, thereby reducing the location management overhead. In addition, the overhead for setting the routing path can be removed by transferring data in the opposite direction to the path where the sink-position information is transferred among the heads. Lastly, the access node is introduced to transmit data to the sink more reliably when the sink moves frequently.

In wireless sensor networks, there are hundreds to thousands of small battery powered devices which are called sensors. As sensors have a limited energy resources, there is a need to use it effectively. A clustering based routing protocol forms clusters by distributed algorithm. Member nodes send their data to their cluster heads then cluster heads integrate data and send to sink node. In this paper we propose an energy efficient cluster-head selection algorithm. We have used some factors(a previous cluster head experience, a existence of data to transmit and an information that neighbors have data or not) to select optimum cluster-head and eventually improve network lifetime. Our simulation results show its effectiveness in balancing energy consumption and prolonging the network lifetime compared with LEACH and HEED algorithms.

CBRP(Cluster Based Routing Protocol)의 라우팅 프로토콜에서는 클러스터간의 인증을 위하여 CH(Cluster Head)간의 인증을 통하여 인증을 하게 된다. CH간의 신뢰성을 위하여 MCH(Main Cluster Head)를 두어 CH간의 신뢰성을 보장함으로써 상호 클러스터간의 인증을 위한 프로토콜을 설계하였다.

Wireless sensor network are widely all over different fields. Because of its distinguished characteristics, we must take account of the factor of energy consumed when designing routing protocol. Wireless sensor networks consist of small battery powered devices with limited energy resources. Once deployed, the small sensor nodes are usually inaccessible to the user, and thus replacement of the energy source is not feasible. Hence, energy efficiency is a key design issue that needs to be enhanced in order to improve the life span of the network. In BCDCP, all sensors sends data from the CH (Cluster Head) and then to the BS (Base Station). BCDCP works well in a smallscale network however is not preferred in a large scale network since it uses much energy for long distance wireless communication. TBRP can be used for large scale network, but it weakness lies on the fact that the nodedry out of energy easily since it uses multi-hops transmission data to the Base Station. Here, we proposed a routing protocol. A Cluster Based Energy Efficient Tree Routing Protocol (CETRP) in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) to prolong network life time through the balanced energy consumption. CETRP selects Cluster Head of cluster tree shape and uses maximum two hops data transmission to the Cluster Head in every level. We show CETRP outperforms BCDCP and TBRP with several experiments.
