Two general hospitals(A & B) in Seoul were selected for study. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. 1) For the A hospital, the percentage of clinical dietetic activities such as attending meeting, professional research, foodservicemanagement, clerical activity for the foodservice, administrative activity and delay were 17.5%, 1.3%, 14.5%, 23.4%, 21.3%, 4.6%, and 17.3% respectively, while 22.4% 3.5%, 23.7%, 10.9%, 15.8%, 4.2%, and 19.5% respectively for the B hospital. 2) For the A hospital, the percentage of direct patient care like outpatient nutrition education, group nutrition education, and patient meal planning were 69.5%, 10.5%, 7.6%, and 12.4% respectively while 78.9%, 7.3%, 8.9%, and 5.1% respectively for the B hospital. 3) Time spent for performing direct patient care such as basic care, intermediate care, and indepth care per patient were 28.0min, 73.1min, and 53.0 min respectively for the A hospital, while 45.3 min, 76.2 min, and 52.6 min respectively for the B hospital. 4) Full time clinical dietitian staffing needs were calculated for the three parts ; basic care, intermediate care, and in-depth care. For A hspital, the appropriate numbers of full time clinical dietitian were 3.5 persons in basic care, 3.6 persons in intermediate care, and 1.3 persons in in-depth care, while 6.1 persons, 6.3 persons, 3.2 persons respectively for B hospital.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore preceptees' experience among nursing students in the Clinical Nursing Practice program as integral practice. Specific aims were to identify problems students face as preceptees at a clinical practice and how they interact with preceptors and others. Methods: Grounded theory methodology was utilized. Data were collected from interactive field notes and transcribed notes with individual in-depth interview from 12 senior nursing students who had experiences as a preceptee in the Clinical Nursing Practice. Results: Through constant comparative analysis, a core category emerged as "Being refined while taking a firm stand with lack." The process of "Being refined while taking a firm stand with lack" consisted of four phases: sailing phase, adaptation phase, achievement phase and wistful returning phase. Conclusion: The findings of the study indicate that there is a need for nursing students to understand the limitations and strengths to learning experiences in preceptorship. In addition, the Clinical Nursing Practice as an integral practice program is needed to improve nursing capacity and for proper adaptation to real clinical environment among graduating students.

And also there was significant difference in the level of 'self-disclosure' depending on 'interpersonal relationships'. But there was no significant difference in the level of 'stress of clinical practice' depending on general characteristics of participants. There were significant correlations between 'self-leadership' and self-disclosure, 'stress of clinical practice' and 'self-disclosure'. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that it is needed to develop diverse programs that can reduce the stress of clinical practice by strengthening the capacity of self-leadership and self-disclosure.

  • The high degree of academic burnout experienced during academic life indicates that job skill levels during the first year following graduation are low, and the correlation with turnover intention is high. We investigated the effects of clinical practice stress and resilience on nursing students' burnout, and searched for factors that can prevent or control burnout. We recruited a convenience sample of 202 nursing students. Academic burnout, general characteristics, clinical practice stress, and resilience were assessed via self-reported questionnaires. The mean total score of academic burnout was 44.0 points; exhaustion was the highest at 18.5 points, inefficacy was 15.9 points, and cynicism was 9.6 points. High levels of clinical practice stress affected academic burnout (β=0.194, p=0.003), while high resilience was a factor that lowered the degree of academic burnout (β=-0.449, p<0.001). Based on our results, factors affecting students' experiences of academic burnout were clinical practice stress and resilience. We therefore propose the implementation of a new curriculum aimed at increasing satisfaction with the major, reducing clinical practice stress, and increasing resilience, including an efficient peer mentoring program for clinical practice.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the relationship between positive affectivity, self-leadership, and satisfaction of clinical practice among nursing students. Methods: This study was a descriptive correlational study. A total of 205 participants were obtained by convenience sampling from third- and fourth-year nursing students in three nursing schools. The data were collected by using a self-reporting questionnaire. Collected data were analyzed with SPSS Win 18.0. Results: Mean scores were 3.40 (5-point scale) for positive affectivity, 3.68 (5-point scale) for self-leadership, and 3.30 (5-point scale) for satisfaction of nursing clinical practice. There was a significant positive correlation of nursing students among positive affectivity (r=.43, p<.001), self-leadership (r=.41, p<.001), and satisfaction of clinical practice. The predictors were levels of satisfaction about nursing major, grade, positive affectivity, and rehearsal, which accounted for 34% of the variance in satisfaction with clinical practice nursing students. Conclusion: It is necessary to enhance the levels of satisfaction about nursing major, the level of positive affectivity, and self-leadership in nursing students. The results of this study delineate the need for the development and application of diverse educational programs that can increase positive affectivity and self-leadership for clinical practice.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify effectiveness of fundamental nursing practices in clinical settings. Method: This study adopted the triangulation method. Using one group pre-post test design, this study identified differences in self efficacy between pre and post clinical practice. The study was also designed to describe the nursing student's experience of clinical practice by using content analysis Results: 1) All students experienced bedmaking, BST check, V/C check, positioning, transferring, assisting with moving and positioning, and ROM. Sixty percent of students experienced giving oral care, and forty percent experienced shampooing patient's hair. 2) While the mean score of self efficacy was 3.88 in the pre-test, it decreased to 3.76 in the post-test. They were statistically different from each other. 3) Seven categories were elicited from the result of content analysis on the nursing student's experience, which were 'ignorant stranger', 'facing the gap between theory and practice', 'resolving the uncertainty of clinical setting', 'getting used to fundamental nursing practice', 'motivated by a desire to study and self-development', 'understanding the nursing profession's job', and 'being helpful for the future career'. Conclusion: Fundamental nursing practice in clinical settings is a useful strategy that improves fundamental nursing skills and motivates student's self-development.
