  • Objectives: Recently, high attention has been drawn towards evidence based medicine(EBM). However, there is little follow study after Park's analysis research (2002) in the journal of oriental gynecology. Therefore, there is a need to conduct analyzed research on the topic, due to the increasing interest about EBM. Methods: To analyze the treatises of the journal of oriental gynecology, we examined 56 journals published from 1987 to 2010. we followed the way of Park, classifying treatises into bibliographic, experimental and clinical categories. Results: Analytic research, as a part of clinical treatises, increased rapidly from 2001. As a result, it took 53.3% of whole study in general after 2002 and it reached up to 70.0% in 2004. Most part of clinical treatises until 2002 was about case report of patients, but the amount of clinical trial started to increase since 2003. Case report and case series showed dramatic increase after 2001, and clinical trial started to increase after 2003. As a result, 43.8% of the analyzed research was due to clinical trial by 2009. Conclusions: On the base of this research, quality evaluation of clinical treatises using guality assessment tool is needed for EBM in the part of oriental obstetrics & gynecology.

  • Objectives: This case study reports on the effects of Korean medicine on a corticobasal syndrome with apraxia. Methods: We used acupuncture, bee-venom, pharmaco-acupuncture and herbal medicine to treat a corticobasal syndrome patient during hospitalization for 32 days. We observed changes in the UPDRS score, hand movement by opening and closing of hands, the making of a tower with 10 blocks and writing. Results: The hand movement count was improved from 2 to 10. The time needed for making a tower with 10 blocks decreased from 68 to 50 sec, and the number of stroke when writing the Korean word '철' decreased. In addition, the UPDRS score was decreased after treatment from 27 to 24. Conclusion: This clinical case study suggests that Korean medicine treatment could be used in the treatment of corticobasal syndrome.

Method: A patient suffering from middle cerebral artery infarction was diagnosed with a neurogenic overactive bladder and treated by Korean medicine, including electro-acupuncture on Baliao acupoints six times per week. The evaluation was performed by monitoring urinary frequency and using the Korean versions of the Overactive Bladder Symptom Score (OABSS) and Urinary Incontinence Quality of Life (I-QoL). Results: After 27 days of electro-acupuncture treatment, the OABSS score improved from 6 to 3. The I-QoL total score improved from 60 to 87. The patient also showed a decrease in nocturia frequency. Conclusion: This case suggests that electro-acupuncture on Baliao acupoints can be effective for overactive bladders due to supra-pontine lesions.
