It is necessary to find characteristic phenomena related with permittivity differences for classification of liquid characteristics. If these phenomena can be remotely detected and characteristics can be extracted, it will be very useful in finding flammable liquid materials and classifying substances of these liquids. Therefore, in this paper, reflection and transmitted signals were analyzed from three receiving antennas with one transmitting antenna using wideband electromagnetic wave signals. Frequency response characteristics of reflected or transmitted signals are different according to characteristics of liquid materials. However, conventional FFT methods cannot be applied due to problems of low resolution caused by data windowing distortion. To minimize these problems, eigenvector analysis method was applied for high resolution spectrum estimation of received signals. From these results, it can be shown that classification of many kinds of liquids are possible using peak frequencies and corresponding peak power values of spectrum estimates obtained from various liquid materials.
This study was performed to explore the liquid breakup and atomization characteristics for the classification of drop formation mode and background of uniform droplets generation in electrohydrodynmaic atomization according to the change of experimental parameters such as nozzle material (stainless steel. teflon). fluid flow rate, applied electrical field and intensity, and frequency. In results, from the classification map of drop formation modes according to the variation of applied AC voltage and frequency at a stainless nozzle, the droplet size was smaller than the outer diameter of the nozzle tip relatively in the spindle mode. The transition points became clearly to be moved toward the high applied voltage by rising the applied AC frequency beyond 450Hz. Also the droplet radius can be observed quite small in the frequency bandwidth of $350{\sim}450Hz$. The droplet radiuses decrease as the applied voltage increases for a fixed applied AC frequency within the range from 50Hz to 400Hz Over 400Hz, the relation between the power intensity and the droplet size was not consistent with a continuous mechanism of liquid breakup. Thus, it is showed that the droplet size distribution using the teflon nozzle was analogous to the results of stainless steel, but the droplet size was bigger than that of stainless steel relatively in case of a teflon nozzle.
With the global shift from a carbon-based economy to a hydrogen-based economy, understanding the sloshing phenomenon and its impact on boil-off rate (BOR) in liquid hydrogen (LH2) tank trailers is crucial. Here, we analyze the primary breakup process under sloshing phenomena in a liquid fuel tank. We observe the growth of multiple holes on the sheet-like structures and the formation of ligament structures reminiscent of jet atomization. Through the extraction of three-dimensional liquid regions, we analyze the geometrical characteristics of these regions, enabling the classification of sheets, ligaments, and droplets. The present findings could contribute to understanding the breakup mechanism and hold potential for the development of strategies aimed at minimizing BOR.
The linear MHD(magnetohydro-dynamic) machine obtains the linear motion by replacing the solid conducting secondary of LIM with the ionized gas, plasma or the liquid metal. The electromagnetic pump which is a kind of MHD machine is divided into induction pump and conduction pump. This paper shows the classification and development trends of MHD machines and the characteristics of double sided flat linear induction pump (DFLIP).
Temporal distributions and characteristics of PWV (Precipitable Water Vapor) and LWP (Liquid Water Path) are investigated by using the microwave radiometric profiler at Haenam NCIO from 1 August 2007 to 31 July 2008. Temporal variations of PWV are closely connected with the thermal response of water vapor in atmosphere. The variations of LWP are characterized by the rainfall variation being basically attributable to the heavy rain-bearing clouds. The frequency distributions of PWV and LWP according to the four sky conditions ('clear', 'lightly cloudy', 'cloudy', and 'deeply cloudy') by total cloud amount at Wando Observatory corresponds with a change of slope in cumulative distribution function for PWV and LWP. There results implies that the classification of sky condition can be applied by using the distribution of PWV and LWP from microwave radiometric profiler.

The purpose of this study is the understanding to changes in the characteristic of soil structure and classification, atterberg limits, undrained shear strength and consolidation of clayey soil dependent on pH of soil pore water. A series of tests including consistency tests, uniaxial compressive tests, vane tests and oedometer tests are performed on. The test results indicated that pH changes in the soil pH resulted in changes in the soil structure and classification, stress-strain behavior. Specially, when pH is conditioned to 7, liquid limit, undrained shear strength and preconsolidation pressure are the largest.

The volatile component analysis of 82 commercialized liquors(44 samples of single malt whisky, 20 samples of blended whisky and 18 samples of brandy) was carried out by gas chromatography after liquid-liquid extraction with dichloromethane. Pattern recognition techniques such as principle component analysis(PCA), cluster analysis(CA), linear discriminant analysis(LDA) and partial least square discriminant analysis(PLSDA) were applied for the discrimination of different liquor categories. Classification rules were validated by considering sensitivity and specificity of each class. Both techniques, LDA and PLSDA, gave 100% sensitivity and specificity for all of the categories. These results suggested that the common characteristics and identities as typification of whiskies and brandys was founded by using multivariate data analysis method.

Selection of specific medicinal sources as well as bioactive compounds is important for the preparation of medicine and related products with good quality. It is necessary to pay close attention for choosing correct medicinal sources, particularly in case of medicinal plants, because of their diversity, which can affect the quality and efficacy of medicine. Discrimination of plants based on morphological or genetic characteristics has been used as a conventional classification method of pharmaceutical sources so far; however, more need demands more general methods for accurate quality assessment of medicinal plants. In this study, ultra performance liquid chromatography/quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC/Q-TOF MS) technique applied to this metabolic profiling is a powerful tool due to its higher sensitivity, resolution, and speed compared to conventional HPLC technique. The metabolite profiling of several medicinal plants including Panax ginseng was carried out using UPLC/Q-TOF MS and total metabolites were then subsequently applied to various statistical tools to compare the patterns. The developed metabolomics tool with UPLC/Q-TOF MS successfully identified and classified the samples tested according to their origins.

With the development of the chemical industry, related accidents frequently occur, and fire and explosion accidents account for a large proportion. In order to prevent fire and explosion accidents, places that handle flammable liquids are classified according to the Korean Industrial Standards (KSC IEC60079-10-1) in accordance with the relevant laws. The same applies to laboratories dealing with flammable liquids. This paper verified the applicability of the procedure for classifying explosion hazard areas according to the Korean Industrial Standards when flammable liquid release from the laboratory to form an evaporative pool, and also verified the effect of a change in ventilation speed on the release characteristics. Through this, it was found that it was difficult to apply the criteria for the classification of places at risk of explosion according to the Korean Industrial Standards, and special safety measures should be prepared.
In order to increase the productivity in manufacturing TFT-LCD(thin film transistor-liquid crystal display), it is essential to classify defects that occur during the production and make an appropriate decision on whether the product with defects is scrapped or not. The decision mainly depends on classifying the defects accurately. In this paper, we present an effective classification method for film defects acquired in the panel production line by analyzing the intensity distribution and shape feature of the defects. We first generate a binary image for each defect by separating defect regions from background (non-defect) regions. Then, we extract various features from the defect regions such as the linearity of the defect, the intensity distribution, and the shape characteristics considering intensity, and construct a referential image database that stores those feature values. Finally, we determine the type of a defect by matching a defect image with a referential image in the database through the matching cost function between the two images. To verify the effectiveness of our method, we conducted a classification experiment using defect images acquired from real TFT-LCD production lines. Experimental results show that our method has achieved highly effective classification enough to be used in the production line.
