  • Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI) has been used as a safe, conventional and harmless diagnostic tool. However, thermal injuries have frequently been reported during MRI scanning due to the heat generated by the reaction with the magnetic field. It is recommended that metal-containing monitoring devices such as pulse oximetry and ECG monitoring leads should be removed prior to the start of the MRI scan, but these monitoring devices are inevitably placed in children or patients in the intensive care unit who have low compliance with the scan. Since the interaction between the metal probe or wire loop of pulse oximetry and the magnetic field can result in high thermal conduction, full-thickness burn can occur over the entire body surface during the MRI examination. Several cases of thermal burns from pulse oximetry on the fingers have been reported. However, we present a case of a full-thickness burn arising left earlobe in a 2-month-old child caused by the high conduction heat from pulse oximetry metal probe.

  • Background and objective: For effective horticultural education, it is required to develop kits for practice. In this study, we developed a horticultural kit for germination that introduces storytelling, characterization, and assembly, and investigated the educational effects of using it to study its educational differentiation and usefulness. Methods: First, we developed a seed germination kit for learning. It consists of three components: the kit main frame for hydroponics, the activity sheet for storytelling, and the instruction manual. It is made into an acrylic assembly in consideration of the ease of delivery for contactless learning. Second, we developed two programs, each using a germination kit for horticultural education (experimental group) and a general germination kit program (control group). At this time, the class consists of pre-questionnaire, the 1st and 2nd classes, observation log writing (total six times for two weeks), the 3rd class, and post-questionnaire. The experimental group and control group were separately executed. Third, the application results were compared and analyzed before and after class. As a quantification questionnaire, the effects before and after class were compared through t-test with a questionnaire on program satisfaction and attitude change toward plants. The quantitative results were analyzed through observation activity sheets and effects before and after the class were analyzed through t-test with quantification and language coding. Results: The effect of horticulture education using the developed kit was estimated by a quantification questionnaire. Both the program satisfaction and the change in attitude toward plants showed high in the experimental group, and this difference was statistically significant (p < .05). As a result of analyzing the observation paper with a qualitative questionnaire, various cognitive and affective expressions appeared in the experimental group as well as the contents of the observation paper. The number of syllables and various qualitative expressions appeared, and these differences were also statistically significant (p < .05). Conclusion: Compared to general germination activities, it was found that the germination activities using storytelling-based horticultural kits would be effective for contactless classes in the post-COVID-19 era and in increasing the educational effect of horticultural activities.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of family health on self-regulation and social competence in infants of single-parent families. The subject of this study was a survey of 350 children aged 3 to 5 who were enrolled in a kindergarten located in Seoul. Parents were asked to respond, and the collected data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics and SPSS Process Macro, and multiple regression analysis, Pearson's correlation analysis, and bootstrapping analysis were performed. The research results were as follows. First, the family health of single-parent families was partially positively correlated with self-regulation and social competence of infants. Second, it was found that the self-regulation ability of infants had a mediating effect on the relationship between single-parent family health and the social competence of infants. Considering the results of this study, it could be understood that the social competence of infants is affected by the relationship between family members rather than the family type of a single-parent family.

  • This study aims to analyze the names of public libraries in Korea to reveal the problems of naming and suggest alternatives of naming. As of the end of 2020, 937 out of 1,172 public libraries, excluding 235 libraries of the Provincial & Municipal Education Offices, were divided into three groups by library service target and operating organization, and each library name was analyzed. The study reveals that there were 8 basic types and 31 detailed types of local library names, and 5 basic types and 18 detailed types of children's and youth libraries. In the case of private libraries, it was found that there are 5 types of names. The study also reveals that there are several problems in naming, such as the use of two or three place names in one name, the use of unnecessary modifiers, and the indication of library founder and grade.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the directives and Wh-words in the directives from elementary 2nd, 4th and 6th grade Korean textbooks. After entering all directives into Microsoft Office Excel, directives with Wh-words were separated. The analysis program, Natmal, was used for the analysis of the directives and Wh-words. The criteria from previous studies were also applied for this analysis process. As a result of the study, there are a lot of nouns and verbs in directives. They were consisted of sentences with an average of 6.9 Eojeol. There were a total of 11 types of Wh-words and 'Mueot(what), Eotteon(which), eotteohge(how)' appeared most frequently in all grades. For question types, both grades had more inferential questions than literal information questions. This results were expected to be used as basic data for language interventions with school aged children who have language disorders.

  • The goal of this paper is to create a deep learning model based on triplet loss for generating similar child drawing selection algorithms. To assess the similarity of children's drawings, the distance between feature vectors belonging to the same class should be close, and the distance between feature vectors belonging to different classes should be greater. Therefore, a similar child drawing selection algorithm was developed in this study by building a deep learning model combining Triplet Loss and residual network(ResNet), which has an advantage in measuring image similarity regardless of the number of classes. Finally, using this model's similar child drawing selection algorithm, the similarity between the target child drawing and the other drawings can be measured and drawings with a high similarity can be chosen.

  • Background: Deformational plagiocephaly is usually managed conservatively, as it tends to improve over time and with the use of conservative measures. However, before the year 2017 we operated on patients with severe plagiocephaly and neurological symptoms at the Helsinki Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Center. Methods: Of the 20 infants with severe deformational plagiocephaly and neurological symptoms referred to us between 2014 and 2016, 10 underwent cranioplasty open reshaping of the posterior cranial vault. The parents of the last 10 patients were given information on the natural history of the condition and the patients were followed up with an outpatient protocol. The aim of this study was to gain information on the brain electrophysiology and recovery of patients after total cranial vault reconstruction by measuring the electroencephalogram (EEG) somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP; median nerve). Results: Of the 10 participants in the operation arm, six had abnormal SEP at least on the affected cerebral hemisphere and all SEPs were recorded as normal when controlled postoperatively. In the follow-up arm, eight out of 10 participants had abnormal SEP at the age of approximately 24 months, and all had normalized SEPs at control visits. Conclusion: Our data suggest that cranioplasty open reshaping of the posterior cranial vault did not affect abnormal SEP-EEG recordings. We have abandoned the operations in deformational plagiocephaly patients due to findings suggesting that expanding cranioplasty is not beneficial for brain function in this patient group.

  • The Act on the Promotion of Mobility for the Transportation Vulnerable stipulates that the transportation vulnerable should be able to enjoy convenience when using public transportation. However, this law is not being implemented properly enough to bring up a petition saying, "Please allow the visually impaired to take a bus." Even if you try to use a call taxi for the disabled instead of public transportation, you have to apply and wait two to three hours. Therefore, this paper aims to design and implement systems for the vulnerable and their guardians, such as increasing the opening time of the ticket gate more than usual if the cane rings a notification on the bus and subway station designated using Bluetooth. Accordingly, it is expected to bring about effects such as the availability of public transportation, economic savings, safety guarantees, and prevention of missing children for the vulnerable.

  • Objectives : Egg yolk is composed of various important chemical substances for human health. A calcium shortage causes the growth retardation on the body growth. In this study, we examined the therapeutic effects of calcium, vitamin D and egg yolk peptide (EYP) treatment on the retardation of the longitudinal bone growth induced by low-calcium diet in adolescent rats. Methods : Low calcium diets were administrated for 15 days. During the last five days, calcium and/or vitamin D and/or EYP were administrated. The body weights, longitudinal bone growth rates, the heights of growth plates, and bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-2 and insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 expressions were measured using histochemical analysis. Results : Low calcium diets caused the significant reduction in body weight gains and the longitudinal bone growth. The heights of growth plates and the expressions of BMP-2 and IGF-1 showed the impairment of body growth as well. Calcium and/or vitamin D administration could not significantly increase the longitudinal bone growth. However, calcium, vitamin D, and EYP administration significantly increased the bone growth, the growth plate height, and BMP-2 and IGF-1 expressions. Conclusions : These results suggest that EYP enhances the longitudinal bone growth in the calcium and/or vitamin D deficiency and it could be a promising agent for the treatment of children suffering from malnutrition.
