Recently, interest and social expectation for children's environment are on the rise. The needs for construction of safe and pleasant child care environment has bees agreed with. Especially, as the number of children who are wanted to go center jumped with additional support the government for child care business, centers have also seen a boost. But as number of child care centers increases rapidly in short period, the quality of centers is more inferior to before. and the space and facility level of many centers don't reach in legal minimum standard. In addition to, when child care centers are reviewed, it tend to be judged by one standard without considering connection with sense of values about child care or philosophy, child's traits, surrounding environment etc. Therefore, it is important to construct environment that can consider children's physical development and behavioral characteristic as well as basic element such thing as protection and support activity for current child care centers. This study presupposes that physical environment of child care centers makes important effect on teacher's motion and child's development, then it is to investigate it's characteristics in physically space, facilities, outdoor playground. This study was conducted to evaluate the psychological changes and influences of child actors depending on their role. First, we met the film producer of Dogani and discussed about the filming condition. Second, we visited filming locations during the filming of Neighborhood, when shooting of parts involving the female child actor was taking place and evaluated the emotional states of the child actor before and after she played her role. Third, we interviewed various people of the movie industry, which included adult actors, directors, a professor of films and broadcasting who was a former child actor and a scriptwriter. In case of the film Dogani, the production crew provided enough care and protection and we concluded that child actors had no psychological sequelae. After interviewing the child actor and visiting filming locations, we confirmed that the child actor was not influenced by playing certain roles. In addition, after interviewing various people related to filming, we thought that child actors might not have psychological sequelae related to the character played. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study about influences of the playing character for child actors. We concluded that playing certain roles would not have negative effects on child actors.

Objectives : This study aimed to examine current educational experiences, knowledge, intention to report, and requests for child abuse education in medical interns. Methods : A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 2006 and 2007. The study sample consisted of 193 medical interns who served their internships at the university hospital. They answered 11 self-administered questionnaires related to child abuse. Results : Although respondents indicated a strong will to assist in eradicating abuse of children, about 90% had no educational experiences and knowledge of child abuse. Ignorance was a major factor for low reported cases of abused children. The preferred nominated reporting agency for child abuse was the National Child Protection Agency in 47.9% of female respondents, while 48.3% of males nominated Police Stations as their preferred option. In relation to sexual abuse, Police Stations were the preferred reporting agency by 49.2% of males and 37.0% of females. Medical school curricula were chosen by the majority of interns as the most appropriate stage where child abuse education should be introduced. Conclusion : This study found that medical graduates had limited experience and knowledge related to child abuse. The medical school curricula for child abuse needs to be further developed, implemented, and evaluated when appropriate.

Over the past quarter century, research on physical punishment has proliferated. Almost without exception, these studies have identified physical punishment as a risk factor in children's behavioral, emotional, cognitive and brain development. At the same time, the United Nations has established that physical punishment constitutes a breach of children's basic human rights to protection and dignity. Together, research findings and human rights standards have propelled profound global change. To date, 51 countries have prohibited all physical punishment of children. In this article, we review the literature on physical punishment within its historical context, and provide recommendations for health professionals working with families.
This study is aimed to test the moderating effects of social support networks of parents and children on the relationships between poverty, marital discord, and child abuse. This study utilized the first wave of the Korea Welfare Panel Study, conducted in 2006. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the effects of poverty, marital discord, and social support networks of parents and children on child abuse. The results show that poverty and marital discord have positive(+) effects on child abuse and that social support networks of parents and children have negative (-) effects on child abuse. This study also tested the moderating effects of social support networks of parents and children on the relationships between poverty, marital discord, and child abuse. The results confirm that social support networks of both parents and children can moderate the effects of poverty and marital discord on child abuse. That is, when the level of social support networks of parents and children are high, the influences of poverty and marital discord on child abuse becomes smaller or insignificant. Implications of study findings, which includes child protection strategies through improvements in supports for parents and their children are discussed.
There has been a growing number of research about children's development indicators and child well-being indicators. After the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and concluding observations on the second report of Korea, the effort to monitor and measure children's rights and the use of child rights indicators has increased within policy and academic research. However, few indicators provide a realization of children's rights. The purpose of this paper was to analyze children's own perceptions of their rights and to develop a children's rights index to measure children's rights. In this study, a children's rights index was developed from 38 indicators categorized into nine components and four domains (survival rights, development rights, protection rights, and participation rights) to measure children's rights. Data were gathered from 17,000 elementary and middle school children and their parents in 16 cities. The survey revealed significant differences in the children's rights index by region and age group. There was also a correlation between the economic circumstances of both households and communities and the children's rights index. In the light of the findings, it is suggested that there is a need to increase public investment on children and to raise awareness of children's rights in order to improve children's rights and to decrease disparity.
The objective of this study is to find out the effect of the secondary traumatic stress prevention program for counselors at child protection agencies. The quasi-experiment design was used for pre-test, post-test, and for follow-up test, performed 3 months after the program. Experimental group consisted of 9 counselors, while the comparison group consisted of 10 counselors. As a result, it was revealed that secondary traumatic stress prevention program was effective in decreasing the secondary traumatic stress and depression of the counselors, and also effective in increasing stress coping even though it was not statistically significant. Follow-up test did not present statistically significant changes in secondary traumatic stress, depression, and stress coping. It was found that, to achieve continued effect of the program, much longer and sustained program is required. Based on these findings, the necessity and application of the secondary traumatic stress prevention program were suggested.
Because of the increasing demand for day care centers, The Korean government has enforced childcare accreditation. The government has created the evaluation certification system for child care facilities. But the system includes variable items, and the physical rules are not sufficient for ensuring security and quality amenities. So this study, through literature search, examined the rules of Child Care Centers in the U.S. and compared them with those in Korea focusing on the provision of security and amenities. The standards found in 4 U.S. states were investigated, and the results are as follows. The rule pertaining to the size of indoor activity spaces in C.C.C. allows the spaces to be smaller in Korea than in the U.S. There is no specific criterion for infants and toddlers in our standard. When comparing the standards of Korea with those of the United States, Korea's standards do not state specific rules about child care facilities such as indoor furniture, finishes and space planning. Additionally, the binding force ensuring compliance with the standards of physical facilities is weak. Thus, the ratings of child care standards for the physical environment should be presented in detail. And if a center does not comply with the criteria, stronger penalties will have to be imposed.
