  • The effects of zeolite on the thermal stability of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) were investigated by the static thermal stability test, pyrolysis experiment and ultraviolet spectrum. The results showed that the porous zeolite could absorb hydrogen chloride (HCl), which suppressed the catalysis of HCl on thermal degradation of PVC, thus improved the thermal stability of PVC. The oxidizing acid which was loaded on zeolite had oxidated on the double bond that formed during the dehydrochlorination of PVC. This process could prohibit the growth of the conjugated polyene and improved the color of PVC. Hence, zeolite might be possible to come up with a high performance thermal stabilizer.

  • The stability of gel structured emulsion and the effect of polyols on it have been studied by rheological property and interfacial tension. In this paper, three types of gel structured emulsions were prepared by using three polyols respectively(glycerine for sample 1, 1.3 BG for sample 2, PG for sample 3). And both complex modulus($G^*$) and loss angle[$\delta$ = tan-1(G"/G')] of samples were investigated against oscillating shear stress and frequency($\omega$). The results show sample 1 is most highly consistent with oscillating shear stress. And the results were compared with those of accelerated tests concerning storage stability of gel structured emulsion. To correlate consistency of rheological property with storage stability, interfacial tension from which adsorption efficiency of surfactant(Octyldodecyl Ether) could be known was measured. Sample 1 showed the largest value of [$d{\gamma}/dIn_{Cconc. of surfactant}$] in Gibbs equation. In summary, the prediction of stability could be correctly made by the consistency of rheological property(G*,$\gamma$) of gel structured emulsion against oscillating shear stress and it could be supported by measuring interfacial tension. And polyol affected the value of [$d{\gamma}/dIn_{Cconc. of surfactant}$], consequently affected the stability.lity.

  • this work is given a new pseudoniverse matrix method for balancing chemical equations. Here offered method is founded on virtue of the solution of a Diophantine matrix equation by using of a Moore-Penrose pseudoinverse matrix. The method has been tested on several typical chemical equations and found to be very successful for the all equations in our extensive balancing research. This method, which works successfully without any limitations, also has the capability to determine the feasibility of a new chemical reaction, and if it is feasible, then it will balance the equation. Chemical equations treated here possess atoms with fractional oxidation numbers. Also, in the present work are introduced necessary and sufficient criteria for stability of chemical equations over stability of their extended matrices.

  • Biodiesel fuels contain unsaturated fatty acid ester, which can easily oxidize, especially when exposed to ultraviolet light. The products formed by this oxidation give rise to sediment or gum formation. As a result, the fuel can contribute to the corrosion and plugging of the filter pump. Antioxidants have been used in an effort to stabilize biodiesels, but there is still a need for a biodiesel composition with improved oxidation stability. In general, good fuel compositions should provide synergistic combinations of a biodiesel and antioxidants. Our work involved the synthesis of antioxidants to improve the oxidative stability of biodiesel fuel.

  • Recently, Near-infrared (NIR)colorant is intriguing and attractive but full of challenges. Although some cyanine colorant have been commercialized, near-infrared colorant with intensive NIR absorption, good chemical and photo-stability, and high solubility still remain as target compound. Certain polycyclic aromatic compounds such as quaterrylene represent a key class of NIR colorant and also give rise to outstanding physical and chemical properties after appropriate chemical modification. In this study, We have tried to introduceimide functional group to quaterrylene in order to give chemical and thermal stability. Finally, N,N'-bis (2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-quarterrylene-3,4:13,14-tetracarboximide was synthesized and evaluated its properties using $^1H$ NMR, Maldi-tof, TGA, and UV/VIS/NIR spectroscopy as NIR colorant. The quaterrylene bisimide compound exhibit a excellent thermal stability and chemical stability.

  • Using first principles calculations we investigated the thermomechanical stability of spent nuclear fuels (SNF), especially how mechanical properties of $UO_2$, such as, bulk, shear and Young's moduli and Poisson's ratio vary through alpha-decay of U into Th with generation of He gas. Our results indicate that substitution of U by Th through alpha decay ($U_{1-x}Th_xO_2$) does not significantly affect the stability of the grain in a fuel matrix. In addition, we studied the transport properties of He in and boundaries of the $U_{1-x}Th_xO_2$ grain. Helium preferentially resides at the grain boundaries through diffusion. Our study can contribute to substantial reduction of environmentally risk and enhancement of our sustainability by safe control of radioactive materials.

  • Light soaking (LS) stability in polymer solar cells (PSCs) has always been a challenge to achieve due to unstable photoactive layer-electrode interface. Especially, the electron transport layer (ETL) and photoactive layer interface limits the LS stability of PSCs. Herein, we have modified the most commonly used and robust zinc oxide (ZnO) ETL-interface using an organic dye molecule and a co-adsorbent. Power conversion efficiencies have been slightly improved but when these PSCs were subjected to long term LS stability chamber, equipped with heat and humidity (45℃ and 85% relative humidity), an outstanding stability in the case of ZnO/dye+co-adsorbent ETL containing devices have been achieved. The enhanced LS stability occurred due to the suppressed interfacial defects and robust contact between the ZnO and photoactive layer. Current density as well as fill factors have been retained after LS with the modified ETL as compared to un-modified ETL, owing to their higher charge collection efficiencies which originated from higher electron mobilities. Moreover, the existence of less traps (as observed from light intensity-open circuit voltage measurements and dark currents at -2V) are also found to be one of the reasons for enhanced LS stability in the current study. We conclude that the mitigation ETL-surface traps using an organic dye with a co-adsorbent is an effective and robust approach to enhance the LS stability in PSCs.

  • The present study investigates how the thermal stability of retinol (vitamin A) encapsulated in polyester nanoparticles is influenced by the types of polyester used for the nanoparticles. A variety of polyester-retinol nanoparticles were prepared with various polyesters like: poly(ethylene adipate), PEA; poly(butylene adipate), PBA; poly(hexamethylene adipate), PHMA; and three polycaprolactones, PCL, of different molecular weights ($M_n$ ~10, 40, and 80K). The chemical stability of retinol in these nanoparticles, monitored in an aqueous solution at $25^{\circ}C$ and $40^{\circ}C$ for 4 weeks, was high in the following order of the nanoparticles prepared with PHMA > PCL 40K > PCL 10K > PCL 80K > PBA~PEA at $25^{\circ}C$ and PCL 10K > PCL 40K > PHMA > PCL 80K > PEA > PBA at $40^{\circ}C$. More importantly, this study has also found that the thermal stability of the retinol in the nanoparticles was closely connected with the melting temperatures of polyesters and polyester nanoparticles. The results were further discussed with possible factors - such as sample preparation condition (or history) and miscibility between the polyesters and retinol - affecting $T_m$ of the polyesters and the nanoparticles.

  • A series of novel ascorbic acid derivatives, polyethoxylated ascorbic acid (PEAA) were synthesized by coupling ascorbic acid with polyethylene glycol (PEG) of two molecular weights (MW: 350 and 550) at the C-2 or C-3 hydroxyl group (2PEAA350, 3PEAA350, 2PEAA550, 3PEAA550) to increase the stability and retain the activity, as a skin whitening agent. Their stability, scavenging activity against free radical, inhibitory activity against tyroxinase and inhibitory activity of melanin synthesis in Bl6 melanoma cell of PEAAs were evaluated in viかo and compared with those of ascorbic acid and 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid (3OEAA), a Con stable vitamin C derivative. Among PEAAs, 2PEAA350 and 2PEAA550 tad high scaveniging activity against See radical, inhibitory activity against tyrosinase and inhibitory activity if melanogenesis but low stability, 3PEAA350 had high stability and moderate scavenging activity against free radical, infibitory activity against tyrosinase and inhibitory activity of melanogenesis. The stability, scavenging activity against free radical and inhibitory activity of melanogenesis of 3PEAA350 were higher than those of 30EAA. The most stable 3PEAA350 among PEAAs was nontoxic in various toxicological tests. These results suggest that PEAA would be a good whitening agent far enhancing stability and bioavailability.
