Alizarin Red S modified screen printed carbon electrodes were developed for the electrochemical detection of aluminum ion. The electrodes developed use screen-printed carbon electrodes(SPCEs) coupled with chemical modification with an organic chelator, Alizarin Red S(ARS), for aluminum ion detection in aqueous solution. For sensor fabrication ARS was directly immobilized on the surface of SPCEs using PVA-SbQ(The poly(vinyl alcohol) bearing stryrylpyridinium groups). Aluminum concentrations were indirectly estimated by amperometric determination of the non-complexed ARS immobilized on the electrodes, after its complexation with aluminum. The sensitivity of the sensor developed was $3.8\;nA{\mu}M^{-1}cm^{-2}$ and the detection limit for aluminum was $25\;{\mu}M$.
Due to the high surface-to-volume ratio, the 3-dimensional(3D) nanostructures of metal oxides are regarded as the best candidate materials for the chemical gas sensors. Here we have synthesised flower-like 3D zinc oxide nanostructures through a simple hydrothermal route. Specific surface area of the 3D zinc oxide nanostructures synthesised in different pH values from 9.0 to 12.0 were evaluated by using a BET analyzer and the results were compared with that of a zinc oxide thin film fabricated by rf sputtering. Using interdigitated electrodes, superior CO gas sensing properties of the 3D zinc oxide nanostructures on the ZnO thin film to those of the ZnO thin film were demonstrated.
Alkaline electrolytes consisting of 6 M KOH and polymer (PEO, PVA, and PAAK) are coated on PAN nonwoven fabrics as a separator, and the electrochemical properties of the activated carbon supercapacitor adopting them are investigated in terms of redox behavior, specific capacitance, and interfacial impedance. Although the interaction between polymer and KOH are comparatively inactive in PEO and PVA, PAAK (3 wt.%)-KOH forms a hydrogel phase by active interactions between $COO^-K^+$ in side-chain of PAAK and $K^+OH^-$ from alkaline electrolyte solution, improving ionic conduction of electrolytes and the electrochemical properties of the supercapacitor. As a result, the activated supercapacitor adopting the PAAK-KOH shows the superior specific capacitance of $46.8Fg^{-1}$ at $100mVs^{-1}$.

Microstructure and surface roughness of the sensing materials should be improved to use them in advanced sensor applications because the uneven surface roughness degrades the light reflection, pattern resolution, and devices performance. Chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) processing was selected for improving the surface roughness of $CeO_2$ which is one of the well known materials for the oxygen gas sensors. Surface roughness and removal rate of spin coated $CeO_2$ thin films were examined with a change of CMP process parameters such as down force and table speed. The optimized process condition, reflected by the surface roughness with the hillock-free surface as well as the excellent removal rate with the good uniformity, was obtained. The effects of the improved surface roughness on the sensing property of $CeO_2$ thin films were also confirmed. The improved sensitivity of $CeO_2$ thin films for oxygen sensors were obtained after CMP process by the improved surface characteristics. Therefore, we conclude that sensing property of $CeO_2$ thin film is strongly dependent on the surface roughness of $CeO_2$ thin films by using CMP process.

The overuse of pesticides in agricultural sectors exposes people to food contamination. Pesticides are toxic to humans and can have both acute and chronic health effects. To protect food consumers from the adverse effects of pesticides, a rapid monitoring system of the residues is in dire need. Molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) on a screen-printed electrode (SPE) is a leading and promising electrochemical sensing approach for the detection of several residues including pesticides. Despite the huge development in analytical instrumentation developed for contaminant detection in recent years such as HPLC and GC/MS, these conventional techniques are time-consuming and labor-intensive. Additionally, the imprinted SPE detection system offers a simple portable setup where all electrodes are integrated into a single strip, and a more affordable approach compared to MIP attached to traditional rod electrodes. Recently, numerous reviews have been published on the production and sensing applications of MIPs however, the research field lacks reviews on the use of MIPs on electrochemical sensors utilizing the SPE technology. This paper presents a distinguished overview of the MIP technique used on bare and modified SPEs for the detection of pesticides from four recent publications which are malathion, chlorpyrifos, paraoxon and cyhexatin. Different molecular imprint routes were used to prepare these biomimetic sensors including solution polymerization, thermal polymerization, and electropolymerization. The unique characteristics of each MIP-modified SPE are discussed and the comparison among the findings of the papers is critically reviewed.

Novel aromatic imine derivatives with yellow were designed and synthesized for their potential application in color filters for image sensors. The synthesized compounds possessed chemical structures using aromatic imine groups. This innovative material was evaluated thoroughly, considering its optical and thermal properties under conditions similar to commercial device manufacturing processes. Following a rigorous performance evaluation, it was found that (E)-3-methyl-4-((3-methyl-5-oxo-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-4(5H)-ylidene)methyl)-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-5(4H)-one, abbreviated as MOPMPO, exhibited an impressive solubility of 0.5 wt% in propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate, predominantly utilized as the solvent in the industry. Furthermore, MOPMPO showed exceptional performance as a color filter material for image sensors, having a high decomposition temperature of 290 ℃. These data unequivocally establish MOPMPO as a viable yellow dye additive for coloring materials in image sensor applications.
The fluid ensemble in the liquid lens, which is composed of electrolyte and silicone oil, is the key material system to vary the focal length processing of the electrochemical desorption. In order to characterize the capability of the liquid lens according to response time and optical range, we prepared a fluid ensemble comprising the electrolyte and oil. To elucidate the physical mechanism of the effective response time, we examined the viscosity dependency while satisfying the requirements for the density and refractive index of the electrolyte and oil, respectively. The characterization results indicated that the response time (up and down) is influenced by the viscosity of the electrolyte and oil. On this basis, we prepared a fluid ensemble capable of reversibly adjusting for the focal length of the liquid lens, as well as the response time. The ensemble is applicable to various systems such as micro-lens and optical sensors.

The efficacy improvement of the light emitting diode (LED) was studied for the realization of small-size, low power consumption, and highly sensitive bio-sensor instrument. The performance of the LED with Mg delta-doping at the interface of AlGaN/GaN super-lattice in p type cladding layer was simulated. The device with Mg delta-doping showed improved current, radiative recombination rate, electroluminescence, and light output power compared to the conventional LED structure. Under the bias condition of 5 V, the improved device exhibited 20.8% increase in the light output power. This is attributed to the increment of hole concentration from stable ionization of Mg in p type cladding layer. This result is expected to be used for the miniaturization, power saving, and sensitivity improvement of the bio-sensor system.

$TiO_2$ is a promising material for gas sensors. To achieve high sensitivities, the material should exhibit a large surface-to-volume ratio and possess the high accessibility of the gas molecules to the surface. Accordingly, a wide variety of porous $TiO_2$ nanomaterials synthesized by wet-chemical methods have been reported for gas sensor applications. Nonetheless, achieving the large-area uniformity and comparability with well-established semiconductor production processes of the methods is still challenging. An alternative method is soft-templating which utilizes nanostructured inorganic or organic materials as sacrificial templates for the preparation of porous materials. Fabrication of macroporous $TiO_2$ films and hollow $TiO_2$ tubes by soft-templating and their gas sensing applications have been reported recently. In these porous materials composed of assemblies of individual micro/nanostructures, the form of links or necks between individual micro/nanostructures is a critical factor to determine gas sensing properties of the material. However, a systematic study to clarify the role of links between individual micro/nanostructures in gas sensing properties of a porous metal oxide matrix is thoroughly lacking. In this work, we have demonstrated a fabrication method to prepare highly-ordered, embossed $TiO_2$ films composed of anatase $TiO_2$ hollow hemispheres via soft-templating using polystyrene beads. The form of links between hollow hemispheres could be controlled by $O_2$ plasma etching on the bead templates. This approach reveals the strong correlation of gas sensitivity with the form of the links. Our experimental results highlight that not only the surface-to-volume ratio of an ensemble material composed of individual micro/nanostructures but also the links between individual micro/nanostructures play a critical role in evaluating the sensing properties of the material. In addition to this general finding, the facileness, large-scale productivity, and compatability with semiconductor production process of the proposed fabrication method promise applications of the embossed $TiO_2$ films to high-quality sensors.
Constructing and making highly active and stable nanostructured Pt-based catalysts with ultralow Pt loading are still electrifying for electrochemical applications such as water electrolysis and fuel cells. In this study, MoO3 ribbons (RBs) of few micrometer in length is successfully synthesized via hydrothermal synthesis. Subsequently, 3-dimentional (3D)-silicate layer for about 10 to 15 nm is introduced via chemical deposition onto the pre-formed MoO3 RBs; to setup the platform for Pt metaldots (MDs) deposition. In comparison with the bare MoO3 RBs, the MoO3-Si has served as a efficient solid-support for stabilizing and accommodating the uniform deposition of sub-2 nm Pt MDs. Such a structural design would effectively assist in improving the electronic conductivity of a fabricated MoO3-Si-Pt catalyst towards MOR; the interfaced, porous and 3D silicate layer has assisted in an efficient mass transport and quenching the poisonous COads species leading to a significant electrocatalytic performance for MOR in alkaline medium. Uniformly decorated, sub-2 nm sized Pt MDs has synergistically oxidized the MeOH in association with the MoO3-Si solid-support hence, synergistic catalytic activity has been achieved. Present facile approach can be extended for fabricating variety of highly efficient Metal Oxide-Metal Nanocomposite for energy harvesting applications.
