Background: Parametric statistical procedures are typically conducted under the condition in which a sample distribution is statistically identical with its population. In reality, investigators use inferential statistics to estimate parameters based on the sample drawn because population distributions are unknown. The uncertainty of limited data from the sample such as lack of sample size may be a challenge in most rehabilitation studies. Objects: The purpose of this study is to review the bootstrapping method to overcome shortcomings of limited sample size in rehabilitation studies. Methods: Articles were reviewed. Results: Bootstrapping method is a statistical procedure that permits the iterative re-sampling with replacement from a sample when the population distribution is unknown. This statistical procedure is to enhance the representativeness of the population being studied and to determine estimates of the parameters when sample size are too limited to generalize the study outcome to target population. The bootstrapping method would overcome limitations such as type II error resulting from small sample sizes. An application on a typical data of a study represented how to deal with challenges of estimating a parameter from small sample size and enhance the uncertainty with optimal confidence intervals and levels. Conclusion: Bootstrapping method may be an effective statistical procedure reducing the standard error of population parameters under the condition requiring both acceptable confidence intervals and confidence level (i.e., p=.05).

Trackers, especially long-term (LT) trackers, now have a more complex structure and more intensive computation for nowadays' endless pursuit of high accuracy and robustness. However, computing efficiency of LT trackers cannot meet the real-time requirement in various real application scenarios. Considering heterogeneous CPU-GPU platforms have been more popular than ever, it is a challenge to exploit the computing capacity of heterogeneous platform to improve the efficiency of LT trackers for real-time requirement. This paper focuses on TLD, which is the first LT tracking framework, and proposes an efficient parallel implementation based on OpenCL. In this paper, we firstly make an analysis of the TLD tracker and then optimize the computing intensive kernels, including Fern Feature Extraction, Fern Classification, NCC Calculation, Overlaps Calculation, Positive and Negative Samples Extraction. Experimental results demonstrate that our efficient parallel TLD tracker outperforms the original TLD, achieving the 3.92 speedup on CPU and GPU. Moreover, the parallel TLD tracker can run 52.9 frames per second and meet the real-time requirement.
Recently many different programming languages have emerged for the development of bioinformatics applications. In addition to the traditional languages, languages from open source projects such as BioPerl, BioPython, and BioJava have become popular because they provide special tools for biological data processing and are easy to use. However, it is not well-studied which of these programming languages will be most suitable for a given bioinformatics task and which factors should be considered in choosing a language for a project. Like many other application projects, bioinformatics projects also require various types of tasks. Accordingly, it will be a challenge to characterize all the aspects of a project in order to choose a language. However, most projects require some common and primitive tasks such as file I/O, text processing, and basic computation for counting, translation, statistics, etc. This paper presents the benchmarking results of six popular languages, Perl, BioPerl, Python, BioPython, Java, and BioJava, for several common and simple bioinformatics tasks. The experimental results of each language are compared through quantitative evaluation metrics such as execution time, memory usage, and size of the source code. Other qualitative factors, including writeability, readability, portability, scalability, and maintainability, that affect the success of a project are also discussed. The results of this research can be useful for developers in choosing an appropriate language for the development of bioinformatics applications.

The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of the pre-parent education program and its application to adolescents in residential care. The following research question will be used in the evaluation of the program's effectiveness: a change in self-esteem of the adolescents in residential care and a change in defining an ideal family. With these research questions, a survey of the requirements for its contents and previous studies were researched, and adolescents in residential care participated in the program in 12 sessions of 4 stages. The research showed a meaningful change of p>.001 for self-esteem and the ideal family in pre, post-test to the experimental group and control group. That proved the effectiveness of the pre-parent education program. Observing the experimental group's change process, the researcher proved the following results. At the beginning of the program experimental group showed hopelessness and disliked participating in the program. At the end of this, they had active attitudes, confidence and challenge to the vision. This study contains theory and various practical family activities. This study made a contribution to help adolescents in residential care enhance self-esteem and define the future ideal family.
This article examines the requirements of Article 37 of the ICDR International Arbitration Rules and issues that could arise if a party petitions a U.S. Federal Court to enforce an emergency arbitrator's Article 37 decision to grant pre-arbitration provisional relief. On May 1, 2006, ICDR introduced a new procedure for the granting of emergency arbitral relief under its ICDR Rules. The procedure enables a party to apply for emergency interim relief before the appointment of an arbitrator or tribunal to adjudicate the merits of the dispute. Instead, the application for emergency relief is considered by an emergency arbitrator appointed by the ICDR. In short, the ICDR has quickly appointed emergency arbitrator and resolved a challenge to an appointment within 36 hours. In addition, the emergency decisions have been issued within just a couple of weeks. In particular, we looked at what would happen after Article 37 emergency relief is granted. Based on my examination of U.S. cases on the enforceability of interim awards and orders, We conclude that U.S. courts would enforce Article 37 interim measures, whether they are characterized by the emergency arbitrator as an interim order or award. Where the situation warrants, arbitration executives should embrace and use emergency relief procedure of ICDR Rules.
Synchronous wind-induced pressures, measured in wind-tunnel tests on model buildings instrumented with hundreds of pressure taps, are an invaluable resource for designing safe buildings efficiently. They enable a much more detailed, accurate representation of the forces and moments that drive engineering design than conventional tables and graphs do. However, the very large volumes of data that such tests typically generate pose a challenge to their widespread use in practice. This paper explains how a wavelet representation for the time series of pressure measurements acquired at each tap can be used to compress the data drastically while preserving those features that are most influential for design, and also how it enables incremental data transmission, adaptable to the accuracy needs of each particular application. The loss incurred in such compression is tunable and known. Compression rates as high as 90% induce distortions that are statistically indistinguishable from the intrinsic variability of wind-tunnel testing, which we gauge based on an unusually large collection of replicated tests done under the same wind-tunnel conditions.
The concern for dissolved phosphate in water/wastewater has been increasing because of the risk for eutrophication. A variety of conventional and advanced technologies were applied to meet the enforced new regulation of phosphate around the world. However, there still remained a lot of challenge because most introduced/developed method, for example, biological and physic-chemical treatment is not easy to satisfy the new regulation of phosphate in water. In order to meet the new regulation, the application of ion exchanger has been tried which showed that the removal efficiency for phosphate was strongly determined by in the presence of the competing ion, especially sulfate. As results, a new class of ion exchanger governed by ligand exchange was developed and investigated to increase the selectivity for phosphate. The current study using organic/inorganic anion exchanger developed with Lewis acid-base interaction confirms the selectivity for phosphate over sulfate. According to isotherm test and column test, the value of the maximum phosphate uptake (Q) showed 64 mg/g as $po{_4}^{3-}$ and the breakthrough for phosphate occurs after 1000 min and completely finishes at 2500 min, respectively.
Photocatalytic green energy H2 production utilizing inexhaustible solar energy has been considered as a potential solution to problems of energy scarcity and environmental contamination. However, the design of a cost-effective photocatalyst using simple synthesis methodology is still a grand challenge. Herein, a low-cost transition metal, Cu-loaded one-dimensional TiO2 nanorods (Cu/TNR) were fabricated using an easy-to-use synthesis methodology for significant H2 production under simulated solar light. X-ray photoelectron spectral studies and electron microscopy measurements provide evidence to support the successful formation of the Cu/TNR catalyst under our experimental conditions. UV-vis DRS studies further demonstrate that introducing Cu on the surface of TNR substantially increases light absorption in the visible range. Notably, the Cu/TNR catalyst with optimum Cu content, achieved a remarkable H2 production with a yield of 39,239 µmol/g after 3 h of solar light illumination, representing 7.4- and 27.7-fold enhancements against TNR and commercial P25, respectively. The notably improved H2 evolution activity of the target Cu/TNR catalyst was primarily attributed to its excellent separation and efficiently hampered recombination of photoexcited electron-hole pairs. The Cu/TNR catalyst is, therefore, a potential candidate for photocatalytic green energy applications.
Nuclear power plants play a pivotal role in the global energy infrastructure, fulfilling a substantial share of the world's energy requirements in a sustainable way. The management of these facilities, especially the handling of spent nuclear fuel (SNF), necessitates meticulous inspections to guarantee operational safety and efficiency. However, the prevailing inspection methodologies lean heavily on human operators, which presents challenges due to the potential hazards of the SNF environment. This study introduces the design of a novel Pre-Batched Inspection Strategy (PBIS) that integrates robotic automation and image processing techniques to bolster the inspection process. This methodology deploys robotics to undertake tasks that could be perilous or time-intensive for humans, while image processing techniques are used for precise identification of SNF targets and regulating the robotic system. The implementation of PBIS holds considerable promise in minimizing inspection time and enhancing worker safety. This paper elaborates on the structure, capabilities, and application of PBIS, underlining its potential implications for the future of nuclear energy inspections.
Employing an after-treatment system has almost become a mandatory requirement for Diesel vehicles, which results from a reinforced exhaust regulations as the number of vehicles powered by a Diesel engine increases. The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) system is considered as one of the most efficient method to reduce particulate matter (PM); however, the improvement of a regeneration performance at any engine operation point presents a considerable challenge by itself. Temperature, gas composition and flow rate of exhaust gas are important parameters in DPF evaluation processes, especially during a regeneration process. Engine dynamometer and segment tester are generally used in DPF evaluation so far. These test methods, however, could not completely evaluate the effect of various parameters on real DPF, such as oxygen concentration, amount of soot and exhaust gas temperatures. The evaluation of DPF systems using a dump combustor has been verified experimentally and this dump combustor system is likely to be appropriate for the DOC (Diesel Oxidation Catalyst) and SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) assessments test, too.
