  • In this study, the emulsion stability of henna, a natural hair dye, according to the content of cetyl alcohol, one of the emulsification stabilizers, was analyzed, and the content of cetyl alcohol showing the most stable emulsification was confirmed. To analyze the emulsion stability, differences in particle size, particle shape, viscosity, and color after dyeing were compared according to the content of cetyl alcohol. As a result of dynamic light scattering (DLS) zeta analysis, cetyl alcohol 3% showed the highest zeta potential value of 115.9 mV, and the particle size distribution was henna in which a cream-type hair dye containing 3% cetyl alcohol was dispersed in distilled water. The width of the particle size distribution was narrow compared to. As a result of viscometer analysis, the viscosity increased as the content of cetyl alcohol increased. As a result of measuring the henna pH of the cream formulation, it was measured in a pH range suitable for the scalp. As a result, emulsion stability increases as the content of cetyl alcohol increases in henna cream formulations for hair dye.

  • The captopril microcapsules were prepared and were investigated by measuring their size distribution using Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM) and dissolution of captopril. Cetyl alcohol microcapsules prepared by emulsion melted-cooled method with various ratios of drug to cetyl alcohol were spherical and uniform. The release rate of cetyl alcohol microcapsules was decreased proportionally as the content of cetyl alcohol increased but, the particle size of microcapsules was increased. The surface of cetyl alcohol microcapsules was comparatively rough as drug content increased. Pellet type microcapsules were prepared using fluidized-bed coating system by spraying captopril solution on nonpareil-seeds followed by applying $Eudragit^{\circledR}$ RS solution containing propylene glycol as a plasticizer. The release rate of drug from pellet type microcapsules decreased as the content of $Eudragit^{\circledR}$ RS increased.

  • We conduct the conservation treatment for the wooden well bucket excavated from civilian remains in Siji-Dong, Daegu. This bucket was in very poor condition, having been buried for a long time; thus, cetyl alcohol was used for the conservation. After replacing the water inside the wooden material with alcohol, the density of the cetyl alcohol was increased by 20, 40, 60, and 80% and immersed for two weeks at each step. After completing the immersion procedure, the remaining cetyl alcohol was removed, and the bucket, dried under normal atmosphere.

  • To investigate the effect of nonionic surfactant and emulsion stabilizer on O/W emulsions, various emulsion formulations with different types of nonionic surfactants and emulsion stabilizers were prepared and their rheological properties were compared. In this study, polysorbate 60 (Tween 60), PEG-60 hydrogenated castor oil (HCO 60), octyldodeceth-16 (OD 16), and ceteareth-6 olivate (Olivem 800) were used as hydrophilic nonionic surfactants, whereas cetyl alcohol, glyceryl monostearate, and stearic acid as emulsion stabilizers. Phase separation occurred only in the emulsion formulation with octyldodeceth-16 and all other emulsion formulations maintained a stable phase. The viscosity, hardness, and creaminess of emulsion formulation using a mixture of ceteareth-6 olivate and cetyl alcohol were the highest, and the emulsified droplet size was also the largest. These results are due to the formation of a network structure texture with the development of a large amount of liquid crystal in the O/W emulsion. In this formulation, the value of elastic modulus was large and the thixotropic behavior, in which the viscosity varies with the history of external force, was observed.

  • The small dining tables which are made of bamboo were deteriorated condition when those were excavated from Mado shipwreck No.1. Therefore, preliminary test was conducted for consolidation (Sucrose, Dammar gum, Cetyl alcohol and Polyethylene glycol 4000) then impregnated and vacuum freeze dried. After the test, since the treatment with vacuum freeze drying using an aqueous solution of PEG 4000 keep the shape well the most and present bright colour, waterlogged archaeological bamboo conserved with vacuum freeze drying using an aqueous solution of PEG 4000. One bamboo table consolidated with soluble PEG 4000 from 10% to 40%, then vacuum freeze dried. Another impregnated with soluble PEG 4000 from 10% to 70%. After that, it was separated and held in polycarbonate sheet for preventing bending during dry. The small dining tables are the three dimensional shapes and have some loss. Therefore the mounting for support tables were necessary which are made of acrylic sheet. It keep the table shape and make it convenient for storage and handling.

  • For preventing and curing the stretching mark, TECA Niosome/W/O system creams were formulated using Titrated Extract of Centella Asiatica (TECA) which is well known for its excellent wound healing effect. The lipid-water partition coefficients and the stabilities of TECA were evaluated and TECA Niosome/W/O system (TECA N/W/O) creams were prepared with different concentrations of cetyl alcohol and ceramide. TECA N/W/O cream was evaluated with respect to their rheological properties, permeation through excised skin of hairless mouse and in vitro and in vivo accumulation in the skin of hairless mouse. In addition, dermal thicknesses of hairless mouse skins were determined following the in vivo application of TECA N/W/O cream and control cream. TECA N/W/O creams showed pseudoplastic flow and hysteresis loop. The permeation of TECA from formulations through excised skin of hairless mouse did not observed. Amount of accumulated drug in the excised skin of hairless mouse was deσeased with an increase in the concentration of cetyl alcohol and showed no relationship with concentration of ceramide. Amount of accumulated drug in formulation A-3 was higher than in niosome suspension and other formulations. In in vivo experiment, amount of accumulated drug in formulation A-2 and A-3 was much higher than that of niosome suspension. Being treated with the N/W/O cream for 8 weeks, the dermal thickness of hairless mouse skin was increased 3.2 times than that of 16 weeks-control group.

  • O/W emulsions were prepared by adding water to the solution containing amphiphilic resin and the mixed emulsifier of cetyl alcohol polyoxyethylene(20) sorbitan monooleate. Phase behavoir of these emulsions was studied at various HLB(Hydrophilic Lipophilic Balance) values and temperatures. The polar oil emulsion containing the amphiphilic resin showed improved phase stability at various temperatures. Model compounds which contain one of the functional groups in the amphiphilic resin were used in the polar oil phase in order to study the effect of interaction between the functional group and the emulsifier on the phase stability of emulsion. These model compound emulsions showed the phase stability order of poly(acrylic acid)
