Antitumor and Antiinflammatory Constituents from Celtis sinensis

  • Eight compounds were isolated from the methanolic extract of the twigs of Celtis sinensis through repeated silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography. Their chemical structures were elucidated as two triterpenoids, germanicol and epifriedelanol, two amide compounds, trans-N-caffeoyltyramine and cis-N-coumaroyltyramine, two lignan glycoside, pinoresinol glycoside and pinoresinol rutinoside, and two steroids by spectroscopic analysis.

장기재배 시험에 의한 중금속 오염토양의 식물정화 (Phytoremediation of Soils Contaminated with Heavy Metal by Long-Term Cultivation)

  • 중금속 오염토양에 대한 식물학적 복원에 적합한 식물종 탐색을 위하여 수목류 5종, 화훼류 2종 및 잔디를 대상으로 제련소 인근 중금속 오염지 포장에서 3년간 재배하여 연차별로 식물중에 흡수된 중금속 함량을 조사하였다. 식물의 건물중은 양황철, 팽나무, 적단풍, 사철나무, 회양목 순이었고, 연차별 건물중의 증가도 팽나무, 양황철, 적단풍이 높게 나타났다. 식물의 중금속은 지하부가 지상부보다 높은 함량을 보였으며, 식물중 회양목은 뿌리에서 매우 높게 나타났다. 공시식물의 3년차 총 흡수량은 카드뮴이 양황철, 팽나무, 단풍나무, 구리가 팽나무, 양황철, 회양목, 납이 양황철, 팽나무, 단풍나무, 비소가 회양목, 단풍나무, 양황철 순으로 높게 나타났다. 이상의 결과에서 식물의 건물중과 중금속 흡수량을 볼 때 양황철, 회양목, 단풍나무 및 팽나무 등이 중금속으로 오염된 토양에 대한 정화 식물로 이용할 수 있을 것으로 생각되었다.

주둥무늬차색풍뎅이(Adoretus tenuimaculatus Waterhouse)의 기주식물과 기주선호도 (Host Plants and Preference of Brown Chafer, Adoretus tenuimaculatus Waterhouse (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae))

  • 다식성 산림해충인 주동무늬차색풍뎅이(Adoretus tenuimaculatus Waterhouse)의 기주식물과 기주선호도를 조사한 결과, 야외조사에서는 25과 66종류의 식물을 가해하는 것으로 밝혀졌고, 먹이공급 실험을 통하여는 5과 14종의 식물을 식해하는 것으로 나타나 문헌상에 있는 32과 136종류의 기주식물을 합하면 주둥무늬차색풍뎅이의 기주식물은 총 42과 186종류가 되었다. 이들 중 새로 밝혀진 기주식물은 19과 50종이었다. 한편, 15과 39종의 식물을 대상으로 기주선호도를 조사한 결과, 가장 많이 유인된 것은 호두나무(Juglans sinensis)였으며, 가장 많이 식해한 식물은 밤나무(Castanea crenata)였다. 유인율과 피해도가 높은 수종들은 밤나무, 아까시나무(Robinia pseudoacasia), 아그배나무(Malus sieboldii), 호두나무, 신갈나무(Quercus mongolica), 갈참나무(Q. aliena)였다. 그러나 고욤나무(Diospyros lotus), 혹호도(Juglans nigra), 들메나무(Fraxinus mandshurica), 물푸레나무(F. rhynchophylla), 파란칸타(Pyracantha angustifolia), 오동나무(Paulownia Coreana), 팽나무(Celtis sinensis)등에는 전혀 유인되지 않았다. 동일 종류의 식물일지라도 지역에 따라 주둥무늬차색풍뎅이가 가해하였던 것과 가해하지 않았던 경우가 있었으며, 피해 정도도 지역과 시기에 따라 차이가 있었다.

Pre-dispersal Seed Predation by a Granivorous Bird, the Masked Grosbeak (Eophona personata), in Two Bird-dispersed Ulmaceae Species

  • Pre-dispersal seed predation by a granivorous bird, the masked grosbeak (Eophona personata, Fringillidae), was investigated in two bird-dispersed trees, Celtis sinensis and Aphananthe aspera (Ulmaceae). The objectives of this study were to 1) measure direct damage of predation by grosbeaks on plant crops, 2) reveal the temporal pattern of predation within each tree species and its causal factors, and 3) test whether foraging grosbeaks hinder foraging of frugivorous birds, thereby indirectly impacting the reproduction of both tree species. A substantial amount of fruit and seed crop was consumed by grosbeaks (24.3% in Celtis; 55.5% in Aphananthe), and only 17.7% (Celtis) and 16.7% (Aphananthe) were removed by frugivorous birds. At the study site, the grosbeak population size fluctuated greatly during the fruiting seasons of both plant species. As for Celtis, predated seed density also fluctuated temporally, and the local population size of grosbeaks was responsible for predated seed density. In Aphananthe, predation was not fully explained by grosbeak populations or plant phenology, but its peak coincided with that of grosbeak population. These results suggest that predispersal seed predation by granivorous birds can have large negative impacts on the bird-dispersed plants. Changes in local population size of granivorous birds can influence predatation and can affect reproductive success of the bird-dispersed plants available to the birds.

새만금 방조제 개활지의 준설토 기반에 대한 배수층재 처리가 수목 생육에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Materials of Drainage Layer at the Reclaimed Soil Base on Tree Growth at the Open Space of Saemangeum Sea Dike)

  • This study was performed to compare the effects of different drainage layers on tree growth at the exposed sites of Saemangeum sea dike. 4 types of drainage layers including control(dredged soil), specially prepared bark, gravel, and wood chip were set in 150~165cm depth of soil. Pinus thunbergii and Celtis sinensis were planted after 9 months of soil treatment. Electrical conductivity(EC) of soil in all treated plots were decreased under $4dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$, and NaCl(%) was decreased under 0.05% after 1 year from soil treatment. Soil moisture at the 120cm depth of the bark treated plot was higher than that of the 180cm soil depth, below the drainage layer. It is considered that vertical mobility of water was inhibited. Organic matter(OM) at the 120cm soil depth increased at bark and wood chip treated plots. Survival rates after 4 years of P. thunbergii and C. sinensis were 100% in all treatments. The height of P. thunbergii was not significantly different among the treatments while the height of C. sinensis was significantly different among the treatments and it was highest at the bark treated plot.

팽나무 뒷면흰가루병을 일으키는 병원균 Pleochaeta shiraiana의 존재 확인 (Confirmation of the Presence of Pleochaeta shiraiana Associated with Powdery Mildew of Celtis sinensis in Korea)

  • 지금까지 우리나라에서 팽나무 뒷면흰가루병 및 병원균 Pleochaeta shiraiana의 존재에 대하여 확실하게 알려지지 않았으므로 이를 확인하기 위하여 고려대학교 표본실에 보존된 9개 시료를 대상으로 병원균의 무성세대와 유성세대의 형태적 특징을 현미경으로 관찰하고 기록하였다. 또한 4개 시료에서 획득한 ITS 염기서열을 일본의 2개 시료에서 알려진 자료와 비교하여 99% 이상의 상동성을 확인하였다. 이로써 P. shiraiana에 의한 뒷면흰가루병이 우리나라에서 발생함을 확인할 수 있었다.

Report on the current status of Korean jewel beetle, Chrysochroa coreana (Coleoptera: Buprestidae)

  • The current status of Korean jewel beetle, Chrysochroa coreana is reported from the data collected in the five-year field survey (2008-2012). Despite the previous assumption of its endangered status, the beetle was recently found in the southwestern part of Korea frequently. However the local population was suffering from the inadequate management of its host plants, Celtis sinensis Persson. This study reports the restoration possibility of the beetle by the adequate management of its host plants.

장산봉(부산)의 식물상 (The Flora of Jangsanbong)

  • The flora of vascular plants in Jangsanbong located at Busan Metropolitan City was investigated from April 2003 to April 2004. Vascular plants in the surveyed area were 254 taxa that belonged to 78 families, 175 genera, 218 species, 34 varieties, and 2 forma. Among them, 20 taxa of evergreen broad trees, 31 taxa of naturalized plants were identified, and especially Rubus trifidus was first recorded in Busan. In the upper part of a circular road dominant species was Pinus thunbergii. In the lower part of a circular road and the coastal area, dominant species were Platycarya strobilacea, Clerodendron trichotomum, Euscaphis japonica, Quercus aliena, Quercus dentata, Mallotus japonicus, which distribute mainly in the subtropical and temperate zone. In the surveyed area, the canopy consistsed of tall trees, Pinus thunbergii, and the understratum were trees such as Eurya japonica, Ficus erecta, Ligustrum japonicum, Prunus sargentii, and Celtis sinensis var. japonica.

설악산 상천 계곡의 황철나무 (On the Populus maximowiczii Forest of Sangcheon Ravine, Mt. Seolag)

  • The Populus maximowiczii dominated forest of the Sangcheon ravine, Mt. Seolag, is distributed in the area with the conglemerates substrate, along the ravine stream from 170m to 550m in altitude. Toward the both slopes of the northern and southern peak from the stream side, the zonal distribution of vegetation was recognized; P. maximowiczii forest of Pinus densiflora forest and deciduous broad leaved forest. The pure community of P. maximowiczii with even more 80-98% in relative basal area (aspen basal area/basal area) was found in the ravine area from 360m to 420m in altitude, the optimal ranges in the species and community by two dimensional ordination with thermal and xeric cline axis. The species compete with Pinus densiflora, in the ravine stream side, and with deciduous broad leaved tree species such as Fraxinus rhynchophylla, Prunus sargentii, Lindera obtusiloba, in the mountain slope sides. On the other hand, the ravine vegetation, including the aspen forest, was classified into Pinus densiflora, Pinus densiflora-Carpinus laxiflora, Pinus densiflora-Populus maximowiczii, jessoensis, Acer mono-Fraxinus rhynchophylla, Carpinus laxiflora-Quercus mongolica, Quercus variabilis-Quercus ariena, Quercus ariena, Quercus variabilis-Stephanandra incisa, Picrasma quassioides-Celtis sinensis, Betula davurica-Zanthoxylum schinifolium and Styrax obassia-Lindera obtusiloba association.

내장산 삼림식생의 환경경도분석 (Environmental Gradient Analysis of Forest Vegetation of Mt. Naejang, Southwestern Korea)

  • The environmental gradient analyses were aplied for the ordination of forest vegetation in Mt. Naejang national park area in Korea. The species population sequence along soil moisture gradient, mesic to xeric, was shown in following order: Zelkova serrata, Celtis sinensis, Lindera erythrocarpa, Cornus controversa, Acer mono, Carpinus tschonoskii, Quercus aliena, Daphniphyllum macropodum, Torreya mucifera, Carpinus laxiflora, Quercus serrata, Quercus variabilis, Quercus mongolica and Pinus densiflora in tree species and Acer pseudo-siebolidianum var. koreanum, Lindera obtusiloba, Styrax obassia, Styrax japonica, Acer pseudo-sieboldianum and Rhododendron schlippenbachii in shrub species. Ten ecological groups of tree were grouped and coincided with the vegetational units in phytosociological classification by Z-M method, associations. Four vegetation types, cove forest with Zelkova serrata and Lindera erythrocarpa, hornbeam forest with Carpinum laxiflora and Carpinum tschonoskii, oak forest with Quercus variabilis and Quercus mongolica and pine forest with Pinus densiflora as the dominant species were separated in mosaic chart by the two dimensional analyses of elevation and soil moisture gradient.
