Most of the sounds used in animated films are artificially made. A large number of the sounds used are either actual sound recordings or diversely processed artificial sounds made with professional sound equipments such as synthesizers. One animation episode contains numerous amounts of sounds, resulting in significant sound production costs. These sounds have full potential to be reused in different films or animations, but in reality we fail to do so. This thesis discusses ways these sound sources can be acknowledged as added new values to the present market situation as a usable 'digital content'. The iTunes Music Store is an American Apple company product that is acknowledged as the most successful digital content distribution model at the time being. Its system's sound library has potential for application in the Korean sound industry. In result, this system allows the sound creator to connect directly to the online store and become the initiative content supplier. At the same time, the user can receive a needed content easily at a low price. The most important part in the construction of this system is the search engine, which allows users to search for data in short periods of time. The search engine will have to be made in a new manner that takes into consideration the characteristics of the Korean language. This thesis presents a device incorporating the Wiki System to allow users to search and build their own data bases to share with other users. Using this system as a base, the Korean animation sound library will provide development and growth in the sound source industry as a new digital sound content.
The changes in the field of high tech media promote the development of animation films, which was considered once as a decaying industry. A large success of Disney animation films in 1980's and the possibilities of animation as an economically profitable mass products allowed this art form to play a leading role in mass culture. But, the cultural and philosophical aspects of animation works are not studied enough up to this time, despite its importance. This article is focused on the study of animation as a serious cultural and philosophical text. The object of research is the Russian animation in the period of 1960-1980 years. In this time, new trends are noticed in the history of Russian animation : aesthetical experiments in style and subjects became possible since the society freed from totalitarian atmosphere after the political destalinization by Khrushchev. In addition to, it was the time when the system of state subsidies still functioned, that animation was not the object of cultural industry yet, as it happened in the period of Perestroika. In this condition, lots of short animation films, which were remarkable not only in the context of Soviet art culture, but also in the history of world animation films, were produced. This article proposes to analyze the characteristics of realities and fantasy, portrayed in the films of this period, and examine the role and status of animation films in the social-cultural context.
Game production education in a university is very important because it is the stage for completing a game education course as well as for determining a future of game industry. In order to perform various experience and creative learning, it should be able to effectively use a computer infrastructure representing the knowledge and information society for the purpose of obtaining and re-processing information necessary for game production through prediction of directions of game industry as well information technology. This research is focused on an effective game engine education for students whom want to become game graphics designers. The purpose of this study is to draw a lesson of game production utilizing game engines and it enables practice-focused class for game production. It also allows the class participant to manufacture prototypes without support from game programmers for their outcomes of works planned during the game production class. The theoretical background of game production compared and analyzed exemplary game engines. Based on the result, the study selected Unity 3D engine and conducted the research on the background where the Unity engine has been selected and its characteristics. In addition, this study provided an example of game production utilizing a game engine, and also described the details of actual realization. This study selected Torque3D with the Unity in order to identify the purpose of this study and efficiency of learning. Thus, the previous situation is that the class remained in making a game plan during the course of game production project and, students whose major is not game programming. Now, it is necessary for students to make many efforts to make a game in an active and positive attitude by utilizing a game engine beyond the previous method of class.
It is no longer an issue that there is a big audience for Korean movies. More than 120 Korean movies are made each year. Many win prizes at film festivals around the world. But the number of animation movies made in Korea is decreasing even though the government tried to revitalize the animation industry in the mid-1990s. The problem is that all Korean animation movies were box-office failures, even though "Mary's Story" and "Oseam" were awarded prizes in world-famous animation festivals. Korean animation movies also face hurdles because of different cultural tastes of Korean audiences and problems with distribution. But there is a tremendous amount of potential and possibilities for Korean animation movies to be box-office blockbusters and artistic successes. There are ways to develop and revitalize the Korean animation industry and make it of the most important businesses and cultural influences in Korean society.
The purpose of this article is to investigate the relation the animation to culture archetype, focusing on the case of the matter for animation content creation. Furthermore, in the paper, we also study about the animation industry development using various cultural archetypes such as the tale, myth, legend, folk tale, which are usable for animation content industry. For purposes of this study, we analyzed the aspects of power of folk tale and the essential vitality of folk tale in KBS Satellite Channel's and Michel Ocelot's $\grave{e}$re>. Above all, the origin of literature, folk tales are characterized by their uniqueness of each people as well as the global universality, being reproduced over and over again in oral literature. In the existent mode, folk tales have a firm structure because of storytelling, and have characteristics of performance and tradition on the basis of this structure. These characteristics can make emotional experience deepen and insure quality of narrative experience through direct communications. In this context, comparing folk tales of diverse forms of each nation and discovering the ethnicism and universality would not only be critical in the animation content development aspects, but provide precious data for effective animation marketing to apply One Source-Multi Use.
Similar to the other cultural contents, the character industry is based on the media which acts as the technological background. In fact, the character industry is the process of that a created character accesses to the consumers via media, builds its value and becomes licensed as a brand in the market. Therefore, it is crucial to select the most effective media for the consistence of a character in the market, as well as for construction of a higher brand quality of the character. Today, "Webtoon" might be considered as one of the marketing means which utilizes the Internet media for raising the character as a brand. Webtoon has apparent strength because it can be produced in shorter period and with less expense than through other media. Furthermore, Webtoon can be simply featured by the easiness of two-way communication and transference to another media through it. For these reasons, and according to the result of analyzing some Korean Webtoons, it seems obvious that the most effective media in character marketing is the Internet. In addition to the Internet, the strategic development in the media-mix is also important for establishing a brand of a character. However, the effective media-mix is available only when the character's external identity meets with the trait of its media. For the purpose of learning how the media-mix works when a character reaches for the consumers, a character "Hamataeng" was born and used in the experiment. This study will explain the marketing process through the use of own-created Webtoon and other contents, and suggest the ways to build a brand of a character. In addition, it is also indicated that a media-mixing strategy for transformation and expansion of the character to other media.
The current distribution structure in Korea film industry is in the multiplex chain. As a result, most small or medium-sized theaters have been excluded from the market, and all the multiplex chain have gradually been formed into the vertical integration structure. The strike by multiplex theaters in Chuncheon who did not screen for one month led to the problem of the vertical integration, which resulted in many effects. Particularly, it caused considerable effect on the cultural desire and instigated movie-goers to turn to illegal content. This study surveys the process in which Korean multiplex theaters in vertical integration structure took over the Korean film market, and consequently, small theaters collapsed, and the theaters in vertical integration structure kick out small theaters in horizontal integration structure, and conducts a survey on the effect of the one-month strike by Chuncheon CGV from September 27 to October 30, 2008 in Chuncheon where said processes had completed so as to determine the effect of and impact of the problem of the vertical integration, monopoly structure. When major consumers of the film industry, i.e., people in their 20s, see their access to newly released films limited due to closing of multiplex theaters, they feel the impulse to access illegal contents. If they miss viewing the newly released films, they prefer to view illegal contents or films on recording media rather than visiting theaters showing those films. They are also influenced by timing of film release. Specifically, methods of illegal access to newly released films, permanent accessibility to them via recording media, and timing of film release influence their viewing patterns.
A theme park, in general, can be defined as a space that has both 'theme factor' and 'hands-on factor'. But theme parks in Korea are not recognized as having unity even though they provide diverse services, because they lack in a theme factor, which is the essence of a theme park. On the other side of the issue, themes and concepts that a theme park claims to stand for are not consistent, and they fail to provide representative themes as well. For this reason, although a business plan to invite overseas theme parks is pushed ahead, it causes a vicious circle to weaken the competitive edge of domestic theme park industry as well as capital outflow. Consequently, from a theoretical viewpoint, a theme park with no specific theme is in critical situation to be out of the limelight by failing to provide visitors with purposefulness and attract their attention. To overcome the limitations in domestic theme park industry, and to gain profitability and expanded customers lie in heightening their receptiveness through creating unique image of each theme park. With the awareness of the issue, this study aims to propose a theme-centered park which has culture contents in it and to suggest a viable alternative that helps to create hands-on theme parks that reflect customers' receptiveness.
As the rapid extension of the game and film industry, studies on developing natural movements on a 3D characters are increasing. Rigging a character with joints is essential to create realistic movements on a 3D character. The rapid development of the CG industry, rigging technologies and workflow is becoming more sophisticated. Despite the progress and the growth of rigging operations, has shown the limitations of such repetitive tasks. For this study, analyzes the issues and inefficiency of the old method of skin weights and propose a better approach. First, need to understand the general process of an animation pipeline and learn the technology term of skin weights. Second, comparing the traditional ways of skinning a character and applying other deformers to work properly. Third, testing out new ways of weighting a character by applying deformers such as lattice and finally converting lattice weights back to skin weights. Forth, verifying effectiveness of the new method of skin weights by comparing with the traditional skin weighting process. The study shows that the new method of skin weights, reduced working hours and a better final weighting outcome. Expecting this study to enhance the method of skin weights and able to utilize this new skinning technology.
Character conveys rich storytelling and various design elements. Domestic characters are changing and developing in various forms through SNS and offline sources, which are being developed in the aspect of contents industry. The purpose of this study is to find out and discuss the factors that character users are using Korean characters as storytelling and color factor. In terms of storytelling, they prefer adventure, fantasy, absurd and humorous stories. In terms of color, it seems that they prefer a character with simple and simple color/ warm color and warm / cute color composition. On the other hand, characters with a simple story, which is the main subject of early childhood education, fashion, or toys in the aspect of storytelling, are not preferred. In terms of color, it was shown that 4 or more colors were combined without a main color. These main colorless characters gave complex feelings that are not preferred. In terms of storytelling, it is necessary to develop and develop the contents of OSMU(One-source Multi use) through story development with adventure and fantasy structure.
