  • "How does advertising affect sales?" is the fundamental issue of modern advertising research. There is an interesting issue for estimating carryover effects of advertising on sales, and the aggregated data biases exist in the duration of advertising effect. This research suggests an extended model of Koyck Model which is employed for micro-data (Koyck 1954) to estimate aggregated advertising data, and empirically shows the aggregated data bias. Our developed model with the aggregated level of actual advertising data is more appropriate than the basic Koyck model for micro-data. The result figures out that it is important to consider the disaggregated data level in the analysis of dynamic effects of adverting such as carryover effects.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of shoe lift of the affected limb in subjects with hemiplegia. The subjects of this study were 18 post-stroke hemiplegics. For the study, insole of the paretic side was lifted 10 mm higher, and static weight bearing was measured before and after the lift application. For the measurement of carry-over effect of lift, we got data of those three items prior to and 3 weeks after lift application and 3 days after removal of the lift. Static weight bearing was significantly increased both just after and continuous application of lift for 3 weeks than before. According to this study, lift applied to the shoe of the paretic limb was effective in inducing static weight bearing in the paretic limb. This study suggests that symmetry, induced by shoe lift applied to the paretic limb, could help correct abnormal posture that would be caused in standing and prevent development of abnormal muscle tone in subjects with hemiplegia caused by unilateral stroke.

  • The SOx emission from the ship diesel engines will do a negative influence to the human health and the environment. To reduce the negative environmental effect of the SOx emission caused by the high traffic of ship movements, the SECA (SOx emission control area) has been set on several province around world to carry out the severe emissions control and to meet the emissions control standard. To cut down the SOx emission from the ships, the wet type scrubber is being used widely. In this work, we prepared a numerical model to simulate the spray type scrubber to study the motion of liquid droplets in the flow of the scrubber. For the analysis, the CFD (computational fluid dynamics) method was adopted. As a special topic of the study, we designed the wave plate type of mist eliminator to check the carry over of the uncontrolled water droplet to the exhaust. Numerical analysis is divided into two stages. At the first stage, the analysis was done on the basic scrubber without the mist eliminator, and then the second stage of analysis was done on the scrubber with the mist eliminator on several condition to check and compare with the basic scrubber. On the condition of the basic scrubber, 42.0% of the distributed water droplets were carried over to the exhaust. But by adding the designed droplet eliminator at the exhaust of the scrubber, only 3.4% of the distributed water droplets supplied to the scrubber was emitted to the atmosphere.

  • Settlement of the piled raft can be estimated even after years of completing the construction of any structure over the foundation. This study is devoted to carry out numerical analysis by the finite element method of the consolidation settlement of piled rafts over clayey soils and detecting the dissipation of excess pore water pressure and its effect on bearing capacity of piled raft foundations. The ABAQUS computer program is used as a finite element tool and the soil is represented by the modified Drucker-Prager/cap model. Five different configurations of pile groups are simulated in the finite element analysis. It was found that the settlement beneath the piled raft foundation resulted from the dissipation of excess pore water pressure considerably affects the final settlement of the foundation, and enough attention should be paid to settlement variation with time. The settlement behavior of unpiled raft shows bowl shaped settlement profile with maximum at the center. The degree of curvature of the raft under vertical load increases with the decrease of the raft thickness. For the same vertical load, the differential settlement of raft of ($10{\times}10m$) size decreases by more than 90% when the raft thickness increased from 0.75 m to 1.5 m. The average load carried by piles depends on the number of piles in the group. The groups of ($2{\times}1$, $3{\times}1$, $2{\times}2$, $3{\times}2$, and $3{\times}3$) piles were found to carry about 24%, 32%, 42%, 58%, and 79% of the total vertical load. The distribution of load between piles becomes more uniform with the increase of raft thickness.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of lift to the shoe of the affected limb on gait patterns in subjects with hemiplegia. The subjects of this study were 18 post-stroke hemiplegics. For the study, insole of the paretic side was lifted 10 mm higher, and duration of dynamic weight bearing was measured. before and after the lift application. For the measurement of carry-over effect of lift, we got data of there three items prior to and 3 weeks after lift application and 3 days after removal of the lift. Dynamic weight bearing was significantly decreased in heel contact and footflat phases only when just after application of the lift, without any change after 3 weeks application. In heel-off phase, dynamic weight bearing did not show any significant difference between before and just after application of lift whereas significantly decreased after 3 weeks application. According to this study, lift applied to the shoe of the paretic limb was not significantly effect in inducing dynamic weight bearing, but changed a dynamic weight bearing.

  • Effect of soil residue paraquat (1,1-dimethyl-4,4-dipyridinium dichloride) on growth of barley (Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Sacheon No.6 and cv. Tapgolbori) and soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr. cv. Alcheon and Danyeop] was investigated. Changes in soil residue paraquat during the cultivation period and residue amount in the p1ants at harvest were also determined. Experiments were conducted at two paraquat residue conditions; the first was done in an apple orchard soil where paraquat residue recorded 30.2 ppm in 1996, but decreased to about 9 to 9.8 ppm at the time of crop seeding and the second was conducted in the soil fortified to about 27 to 32 ppm paraquat residue. In both conditions, no crop injury due to the residue paraquat was observed and number of emerged seedlings and plant height of the two crops were not affected by soil residue paraquat. Residue amount of paraquat in the plants occurred less than 0.5 ppm detection limit. At the first condition, soil residue paraquat was further slightly decreased for 90 days after seeding, while no great change in the residue level was found at the second condition for 30 days after seeding. The results suggest that no carry-over effect occurs at about 30 ppm of soil residue paraquat and at present crop cultivation in Korean orchard soils are safe with respect to crop growth and paraquat residue in the plants.

  • Brand Pricing is the most important issue for the brand manager in the dynamic market. in the typical dynamic pricing model, a linear function has been used based on the assumption that the non-Price Influences and the price influences were independent. However, to incorporate the characteristics of the dynamic market, it is natural to consider the multiplicative relationship. We are going to try the multiplicative linkage between the non-price Influences and the price influences and suggest a new dynamic pricing model with e multiplicative functional form. An empirical study of 19 brands in the Korean cigarette market shows the feasibility of the suggested model.

  • The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission(TRMM) Satellite was launched in November 1997, carrying into orbit the first space-borne Precipitation Radar(PR). The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between TRMM/PR and AWS raingage data, and test the possibility to apply storm runoff prediction. Four TRMM/PR data in 1999 for Yongdam watershed was adopted and made a simple linear regression equation using AWS data. By using the equation, the storm runoff was estimated with the adjusted rainfall. TRMM/PR rainfall and runoff was overall underestimated by the carry-over effect of rainfall error and SCS-CN value selection.

  • This paper investigates two kinds of strategic combinations carried out by the European telecom operators between 1986 and 2001: acquisitions, on the one hand, and strategic alliances, on the other. The aim of the paper is twofold. First, it analyzes the behavior adopted by these companies to adapt to an environment that, after the processes of globalization and privatization presents a clearly different structure. Second, it focuses on the effect that internationalization and diversification could exert over the returns obtained by the European telecom firms involved in acquisitions and alliances, differentiating when such strategic combinations are more profitable for the shareholders of the firms that carry them out.
