Primary Caregivers' Self-Efficacy and Stress Coping Strategy According to Home Care Nurses' Communication Styles (가정전문간호사의 의사소통 유형에 따른 주돌봄자의 자기효능감과 스트레스 대처방식)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the difference between primary caregivers' self-efficacy and coping strategy according to the communication styles of home care nurses. Methods: Data were collected from 123 primary caregivers of patients who were registered at a home care nursing center in D city and who had been receiving home care for more than 3 months from January 1 to February 27, 2018. The questionnaire included items on communication style, self-efficacy, and stress coping strategy. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA. Results: Regarding primary caregivers' self-efficacy in terms of communication style, the caregivers showed higher efficacy in providing informative and friendly communication (F=14.07, p=.001). Regarding home care nurses' communication style and the stress coping strategy of the primary caregivers, the informative-friendly communication style was adopted the most for the problem-solving coping strategy (F=7.17, p=.001). Regarding the social support-seeking coping, home care nurses' friendly communication style was the most adopted (F=4.40, p=.014). Conclusion: This study suggests that home care nurses will plan to provide informative and friendly communication-oriented nursing care, and to improve self-efficacy and positively influence the coping method by using the communication styles appropriate to the state of the primary caregiver.

Difference of Care Efficacy according to Myer-Briggs Type Indicator in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 MBTI에 따른 돌봄효능감의 차이)

  • This study attempted to find out the differences in care efficacy according to MBTIs in nursing students. The study subjects are 109 students in grades 3 and 4 of nursing departments at 1 university in Gyeongnam Region. Data analysis was performed with independent t-test and one-way ANOVA. The general characteristics that showed significant differences in care efficacy as a result of the study were major satisfaction (3.63, p<.001), practice satisfaction (4.49, p=0.013), and health status (2.91, p=0.004). The MBTI, which showed a significant difference in care efficacy, was an EP type (3.74, p=0.013) among the attitude indicators. We believe that the results of this study will serve as a basis for educational programs to improve the efficacy of care. Suggest repeated studies that apply large samples to generalize research for follow-up research, educational programs that apply MBTIs to improve care efficacy, program effectiveness analysis studies, and research on the development of tools to measure care efficacy.

Effects of Self Efficacy Promoting Programs on Self Efficacy, Self Care Behavior and Psychosocial Adaptation in Patients with a Colostomy (자기효능 증진 프로그램이 결장루 형성술 환자의 자기효능, 자가 간호 행위 및 심리사회적 적응에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of self-efficacy promoting program on self-efficacy, self-care behavior and psychosocial adaptation in patients with a colostomy. Method: A non-equivalent control group pre test post test design was used. The self efficacy promoting programs was composed of a CD image program based on varicaious experience, education and telephone coaching program based on verbal persuasion, and Stoma care practice, and Self care performance based on performance accomplishment. This study was carried out from July 2, 2005 to April 20, 2006 and 21 patients with a colostomy at one of 2 hospitals participated. Descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2-test$, and Mann-whitney U test were used to analyze the data. Results: There were significantly different for specific self efficacy, self care and psychosocial adaptation between the experimental group and control group. Conclusion: The self efficacy promoting program for patients with stomas was effective in improving degree of specific self efficacy, self care and psychosocial adaptation.

Mediated Effect of Empowerment in the Influence on the Job Satisfaction and Job Involvement of Care Worker Self-efficacy (요양보호사의 자기 효능감이 업무만족과 업무몰입에 미치는 영향에서 임파워먼트의 매개효과)

  • The study originated in finding the way to improve the job satisfaction and job involvement of care worker, who work in the Elderly Care Facilities, by researching and analysing the influences on the job satisfaction and job involvement of their self-efficacy and empowerment directly or indirectly. The result from the influences on empowerment of care worker self-efficacy was that the higher the self-confidence and self-control efficacy were, the higher the empowerment was. And the influence on job involvement of self-efficacy was that the higher the self-control efficacy and job preference were, the higher the job involvement was. The influence on job satisfaction of care worker was that the higher the self-confidence, self-control efficacy, and job preference were, the higher the job involvement was. The higher care worker individual empowerment and environmental empowerment were, the higher their job involvement and job satisfaction were. We can find out that there is a mediated effect as an influence on job involvement and job satisfaction of self-efficacy.

The Effects of Self-efficacy Promoting Program on Self-efficacy, Self-care, and Anxiety of Cancer Patients (자기효능증진 프로그램이 암환자의 자기효능, 자가간호와 불안에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of self-efficacy promoting program on self-efficacy, self-care, and anxiety in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. Method: A quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group pre and post design was used. Subjects were 52 cancer patients who received chemotherapy in a hospital. Twenty-six patients were assigned to the experimental and the control groups, respectively. For the experimental group, the CD image for fifteen minutes and two consultations for about ten minutes each were applied. For the control group, ordinary hospital care was applied. The data was collected before and 2 weeks after chemotherapy. Result: The scores of self-efficacy and self-care of the experimental group was higher than those of the control group while the state of anxiety of the experimental group was not lower than that of the control group at posttest. Conclusion: The self-efficacy promoting program about prevention of infection and hemorrhage increased cancer patients' self-efficacy and self-care but did not decrease anxiety. Further study is needed to find other factors to decrease anxiety and nurses need to consider the concept of self-efficacy in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy when they plan to increase cancer patients' self-care.

Effects of self-care intervention using a mobile instant messenger on hemodialysis patient's knowledge, self-efficacy, self-care behavior and physiological index

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of self-care intervention using a mobile instant messenger on hemodialysis patient's knowledge, self-efficacy, self-care behavior and physiological indices. Methods: A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The participants consisted of 38 patients who had a regular hemodialysis of Seoul National University Hospital. They were assigned to one of two groups; an experimental group (n = 19) that had self-care intervention for 8 weeks and a control groups (n = 19) that had routine hemodialysis treatment. The data collection was conducted from September 5, 2022 to October 29, 2022. The date were analyzed by Chi-square test, Independent t-test, and Fisher's exact test using SPSS Win 29 program. Results: There was a significant difference in self-efficacy (t = 3.42, p = .002) between experimental and control groups. There was no significant differences between the two groups in knowledge (t = 0.80, p = .428), self-care behavior (t = 0.09, p = .929), potassium (t = -0.82 p = .416), phosphorus (t = -0.03, p = .974), weight gain (t = 0.16, p = .867). Conclusion: Based on above results, it was verified that self-care intervention in this study was an effective indicator in improving the self-efficacy. There is a requirement to formulate comprehensive interventions capable of enhancing various indicators.

A Study on the Relationship of Self Care Behavioral Compliance and Perceived Self-Efficacy in Type II Diabetic Patient (제2형 당뇨병 환자의 자기간호행위 이행과 자기효능감에 관한 연구)

  • This study was designed to identify the relationship between perceived self-efficacy and self care behavioral compliance in type II diabetic patient. The subjects for this study were the 113 adults with type II diabetes that received hospital treatment or attended as outpatients in 2 general hospitals at Inchon City. The data were collected during the period from August 15 to semtember 15, 2000 by means of an interview. Collected data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation using the SPSS/PC+ program. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The mean score of self care behavioral compliance was 3.06. 2. There were statistically significant difference in self care behavioral compliance according to sex(p<0.05), age (p<0.001), BMI(p<0.05), education(p<0.001), occupation(p<0.001), experience of diabetic education(p<0.05) and complication(p<0.05). 3. The mean score of perceived self-efficacy was 3.45. Self care behavioral compliance and perceived self-efficacy had a positive correlation which was statistically significant (r=0.3879 p<0.001). 4. Stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed to identify the influencing factors for self care behavioral compliance. Education, experience of diabetic education and self-efficacy accounted for 41% of the variance in self care behavioral compliance. The results suggest that education, experience of diabetic education and self-efficacy are important variables in the compliance of self-care behavior with typeII diabetes.

Changes in oral health knowledge and self-efficacy of parents using an application of caries management in children

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects that appeared to parents after conducting a dental caries management program for 12 months using a mobile application for systematic caries management of children. Methods: Parents responded to a questionnaire on oral care self-efficacy and oral health knowledge at the baseline, and received feedback on a management program suitable for their child's caries risk group for 12 months through a mobile application. At the end of 12 months, the questionnaire was re-written. Results: The self-efficacy of oral care increased in the low risk group, and oral care knowledge and program satisfaction were highest in the parents of low risk children. Conclusions: Base on the results of the this study, It was confirmed that parents' self-efficacy, knowledge, performance and satisfaction were all positively evaluated through the oral care program using a mobile application.

Relationship between Uncertainty, Self Efficacy, Social Support, and Self-Care Performance in Liver Transplant Recipients (간이식 수혜자의 불확실성, 자기효능감 및 사회적 지지와 자가간호 수행 간의 관계)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to determine the correlation between uncertainty, self efficacy, social support, and self-care performance among liver transplant recipients. Methods: Participants comprised 111 liver transplant recipients who visited the outpatient clinic at the hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery department of a hospital in D city. Data were collected from September to October 2021 using self-report questionnaires, and were analyzed by the SPSS 23.0 program. Results: Self-care performance was correlated with uncertainty (r=-.31, p=.001), self efficacy (r=.22, p=.023), and social support (r=.38, p<.001). Conclusion: To improve self-care performance in liver transplant recipients, it is necessary to develop nursing interventions that can reduce uncertainty and enhance self efficacy and social support.

Job Satisfaction among Korean Child Care Teachers : The Effects of Background Characteristics, Self-efficacy and Job Stress (보육교사의 일반적 배경이 보육교사의 직업만족도에 미치는 영향 : 자기효능감과 직무스트레스의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • This study examined how child care teachers' background characteristics, self-efficacy and job stress relate to their job satisfaction. Participants were 400 child care teachers in Seoul and Gyeonggi, Korea. Structural equation models were developed based on the authors' hypothesized model, which proposed that teachers' self-efficacy and job stress have a mediating effect in the relationship between teachers' background characteristics and job satisfaction. The results revealed that career directly influenced on self-efficacy and job stress but had no direct effect on job satisfaction. Education level was found to have a direct effect on job stress but had no direct effect on self-efficacy and job satisfaction. Teachers' self-efficacy affected job stress and job satisfaction and job stress affected job satisfaction. Furthermore, self-efficacy mediated the effects of career on job stress and job satisfaction. Additionally, job stress mediated the effects of education level and self-efficacy on job satisfaction. These results suggested that teachers' self-efficacy and job stress were key predictors and mediating variables in the relationship between background characteristics and job satisfaction.
