In this study, the possible use of HMDA (Hexamethylenediamine) as additive to enhance reaction between $CO_{2}$ and AMP (2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol) which has higher absorption capacity than that of MEA (Monoethanolamine) was investigated. Also, the absorption capacity for $CO_{2}$ was compared with addition of HMDA, piperazine or MDEA (N-methyldiethanolamine) into $30\;wt\%$ AMP at $40^{circ}C$ and $CO_{2}$ partial pressure ranging from 0.5 to 120 kPa. Apparent rate constant ($K_{app}$) and absorption capacity with the addition of $5\∼20\;wt\%$ HMDA into AMP increased $214.2\∼276.3\%$ and $29.9\∼91.7\%$ than those of AMP alone. As a result, when $5\;wt\%$ HMDA added into AMP, the increasing rate of the absorption rate and the absorption capacity was found to be the highest. In addition, the absorption capacity increased $6.8\%,\;9.8\%,\;11.6\%$ with addition of MDEA, piperazine or HMDA respectively as compared to AMP alone at $CO_{2}$ partial pressure of 20 kPa. Consequently, HMDA as additive to improve absorption capacity of AMP was superior to other additives.

Algal growth studies of Chlorella strains were conducted in a batch mode with bench type experiments. Carbon dioxide fixation rates of the following green microalgae were determined: Chlorella sp. H84, Chlorella sp. A2, Chlorella sorokiniana UTEX 1230, Chlorella vulgaris, and Chlorella pyrenoidosa. C. vulgaris, among other strains of microalgae, showed the highest growth rate (1.17 optical density/5 days). Cultivating conditions for C. vulgaris that produced the highest growth rate were at concentrations of 243 ${\mu}g\;CO_2$/mL, 10 mM ammonia, and 1 mM phosphate, with an initial pH range of 7-8.

Succinic acid, a representative biomass-derived platform chemical, is a major fermentation product of Actinobacillus succinogenes. It is well known that carbon dioxide is consumed during the succinate fermentation, but the biochemical mechanism behind this phenomenon is not yet understood well. In this study, it was found that the addition of carbonic anhydrase (CA)s into media significantly enhances the succinic acid production by A. succinogenes during the fermentation supplied with carbon dioxide. It is likely that the (bi) carbonate produced by the CA activity from gaseous carbon dioxide is favoured by A. succinogenes for consumption and utilization. Therefore, the $MgCO_3$ requirement could be significantly reduced without compromising the succinate productivity. Furthermore, because of too high price of the commercial carbonic anhydrase, it was undertaken to economically overproduce a cyanobacterial carbonic anhydrase by the use of a recombinant Pichia pastoris. An expression vector system was constructed with the carbonic anhydrase gene PCR-cloned from Cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp., and introduced into P. pastoris for fermentation studies. About 95.9 g/L of succinic acid was produced in the production medium with 30 ppm of carbonic anhydrase, approximately 2 fold higher productivity compared to the parallel process with no supplementation of the enzyme. It is expected that this method can provide a valuable way of overcoming inefficiencies inherent in gas supply during $CO_2$-based bioprocesses like succinic acid fermentation.

In order to reduce or remove off-flavor and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from Laminaria japonica effectively, continuous treatment process by supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-$CO_2$) was applied. After freeze-drying, Laminaria japonica powdered with $710{\mu}m$ was used. Experiments were carried out at temperature range from 35 to $55^{\circ}C$, and pressure range from 10 to 25 MPa for evaluation of SC-$CO_2$ treatment effect. Flow rate of carbon dioxide used in this reseach was constantly fixed at 26.81 g/min. Before and after treatment of SC-$CO_2$, off-flavor and VOCs from Laminaria japonica were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry detector (GC-MSD). Total 47 VOCs emitted from Laminaria japonica were identified before treatment of SC-$CO_2$, major components of seaweed smell (ordor) in Laminaria japonica were identified as alcohols, aldehydes, ester and acids, ketone, halogenated compounds and hydrocarbon. Off-flavor and VOCs in all experimental conditions was reduced or removed after SC-$CO_2$ treatment. Among the experimental conditions, the highest removal yield was at 25 MPa and $55^{\circ}C$.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from the transportation sector in South Korea accounts for 16.5% of all CO2 emissions, and road transportation accounts for 96.5% of this sector's emissions in South Korea. Hence, constant research is being carried out on methods to reduce CO2 emissions from this sector. With the emerging use of smart crossings, attempts to monitor individual vehicles are increasing. Moreover, the potential commercial deployment of autonomous vehicles increases the possibility of obtaining individual vehicle data. As such, CO2 emission research was conducted at five signalized intersections in the Gangnam District, Seoul, using data such as vehicle type, speed, acceleration, etc., obtained from image detectors located at each intersection. The collected data were then applied to the MOtor Vehicle Emission Simulator (MOVES)-Matrix model-which was developed to obtain second-by-second vehicle activity data and analyze daily CO2 emissions from the studied intersections. After analyzing two large and three small intersections, the results indicated that 3.1 metric tons of CO2 were emitted per day at each intersection. This study reveals a new possibility of analyzing CO2 emissions using actual individual vehicle data using an improved analysis model. This study also emphasizes the importance of more accurate CO2 emission analyses.
A high-dose ion-implanted photoresist (HDIPR) was stripped off from the surface of a semiconductor wafer by using a mixture of supercritical carbon dioxide and a co-solvent. The additional ultrasonication improved the stripping efficiency remarkably and thus reduced the stripping time by supplying physical force to the substrate. We investigated the effect of co-solvents, co-solvent concentration, and stripping temperature and pressure on the stripping efficiency. The wafer surfaces before and after stripping were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and by an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer. The HDIPR could be stripped off completely in 3 min with 10%(w/w) acetone/sc$C0_2$ mixture at 27.6 MPa and 343 K.
Two experiments were conducted to study the effect of ambient temperature and nicarbazin on SCWL adult roosters. In Experiment 1, the effects of nicarbazin supplementation (125 ppm) on the water metabolism, blood acid-base balance; and rectal temperature of 16 birds in normal ($21^{\circ}C$) and hot ($35-36^{\circ}C$) temperature were investigated. In Experiment 2, the evaporative water loss and $CO_2$ exhalation from 8 birds were measured individually with an open-circuit gravimetric respiration apparatus in normal ($21^{\circ}C$) and hot ($33.5-34^{\circ}C$) temperature. The amount of water intake and evaporative water loss increased in birds under heat stress (HS). Nicarbazin exacerbated these effect in hot temperature. Also, nicarbazin decreased the blood $pCO_2$ and increased pH of HS birds. The rectal temperature of birds increased in hot temperature, and nicarbazin worsened this effect. The evaporative water loss, measured directly with respiration apparatus (Experiment 2), was increased in hot temperature. HS decreased the amount of $CO_2$ exhalation. Nicarbazin did not exert ant effect on either of these measurements, probably due to the limited duration (2 h) of the trial. The decrease in $CO_2$ exhalation by HS birds could be explained by reduced metabolic rate, which helps homeothermy of birds in hot temperature.

An experiment was conducted to evaluate the biochemical adverse effect of increased carbon dioxide in seawater on marine polychaete, Perinereis aibuhitensis. We measured the available energy reserves, Ea (total carbohydrate, protein, and lipid content) and the energy consumption, Ec (electron transport activity) of Perinereis aibuhitensis exposed for 7-d to a range of $CO_2$ concentration such as 0.39 (control =390 ppmv), 3.03 (=3,030 ppmv), 10.3 (=10,300 ppmv), and 30.1 (=30,100 ppmv) $CO_2$ mM, respectively. The cellular energy allocation (CEA) methodology was used to assess the adverse effects of toxic stress on the energy budget of the test organisms. The results of a decrease in CEA effect of increased carbon dioxide in seawater from all individual in Ea and Ec. Increase of carbon dioxide reduced pH in seawater, significantly. The chemical changes in sea- water caused by increasing $pCO_2$ might cause stresses to test organisms and changes in the cellular energy allocations. Results of this study can be used to understand the possible influence of $CO_2$ concentration increased by the leakage from sub-sea bed storage sites as well as fossil fuel combustion on marine organisms.

The high-pressure phase behavior of a polycaprolactone (Mw=56,145 g/mol, polydispersity 1.2), dichloromethane, and carbon dioxide ternary system was measured using a variable-volume view cell. The experimental temperatures and pressures ranged from 313.15 K to 353.15 K and up to 300 bar as functions of the $CO_2$/dichloromethane mass ratio and temperature, at poly(D-lactic acid) weight fractions of 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0%. The correlation results were obtained from the hybrid equation of state (Peng-Robinson equation of state + SAFT equation of state) for the $CO_2$-polymer system using the van der Waals one-fluid mixing rule. The three binary interaction parameters were optimized by the simplex method algorithm.

Cropland is sources of atmospheric nitrous oxide ($N_2O$) and carbon dioxide ($CO_2$). However, the contribution of the fallow season to emission of these gases has rarely been determined. In this study, a field experiment encompassing three treatments was conducted to determine efflux of $N_2O$ and $CO_2$ in cropland during fallow season. The treatments were hairy vetch (H.V.), rye and control (Con.). The H.V. and rye were sown in middle October and early November, respectively. The soil $N_2O$ efflux among all three treatments in the fallow season (November-April) were $0.014-2.956mg\;N_2O\;m^{-2}{\cdot}d^{-1}$. The cumulative $N_2O$ emissions were $104.4mg\;N_2O\;m^{-2}$ for Con., $85.8mg\;N_2O\;m^{-2}$ for H.V. and $85.0mg\;N_2O\;m^{-2}$ for Rye during the fallow season. The highest $N_2O$ emissions occurred in Con., while H.V. and Rye emissions were similar. Cumulative $CO_2$ emissions were $293.1g\;CO_2\;m^{-2}$ for Con., $242.2g\;CO_2\;m^{-2}$ for H.V., $275.2g\;CO_2\;m^{-2}$ for Rye during fallow season. This study showed that soil $N_2O$ and $CO_2$ average daily emission during fallow season were 28.3% and 27.4%, respectively of the growing season. Our results indicate that $CO_2$ and $N_2O$ emissions from agricultural systems continue throughout the fallow season.
