공연비 변화가 바이오에탄올 연료 스파크 점화기관의 연소 및 배출물 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Air-fuel Ratio on Combustion and Emission Characteristics in a Spark Ignition Engine Fueled with Bio-ethanol)

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effect of air-fuel ratio on the combustion and emissions characteristics of spark ignition (SI) gasoline engine fueled with bio-ethanol. A 1.6L SI engine with 4 cylinders was tested on EC dynamometer. In addition, lambda sensor and lambda meter were connected with universal ECU to control the lambda value which is varied from 0.7 to 1.3. The engine performance and combustion characteristics of bio-ethanol fuel were compared to those obtained by pure gasoline. Furthermore, the exhaust emissions such as carbon monoxide (CO), unburned hydrocarbon (HC), oxides of nitrogen ($NO_X$) and carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) were measured by emission analyzers. The results showed that the brake torque and cylinder pressure of bio-ethanol fuel were slightly higher than those of gasoline fuel. Brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) of bio-ethanol was increased while brake specific energy consumption (BSEC) was decreased. The exhaust emissions of bio-ethanol fuel were lower than those of gasoline fuel under overall experimental conditions. However, the specific emission characteristics of the engine with bio-ethanol fuel were influenced by air-fuel ratio.

Is nuclear energy a better alternative for mitigating CO2 emissions in BRICS countries? An empirical analysis

  • Looking at the recent studies, nuclear energy and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions nexus shows inconclusive result. To further explain nuclear energy-pollution nexuses this study is an attempt to analyze the impact of nuclear energy on pollution reduction for BRICS countries covering data for the period from 1993 to 2017. This study conducts advanced panel techniques such as Continuously-Updated Fully-Modified (CUP-FM) and Continuously-Updated Bias-Corrected (CUP-BC) for long run estimation. Our results support the notion that nuclear energy reduce CO2 emissions. Also, renewable energy corrects environmental pollution in BRICS countries. The magnitude of the coefficient of nuclear energy is less as compared to renewable energy, implying that nuclear is less effective in reducing environmental pollution. The findings offer significant policy understandings and suggestions not only for BRICS economies but for developing countries as well in designing suitable nuclear energy-growth-carbon policies.

국내 휘발유 승용차의 CO2 배출 현황 (A Study on the Characteristics of Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Gasoline Passenger Cars)

  • As the concerns regarding global worming were increased, the pressure of greenhouse gas(GHG) emission reduction on mobile source was also increased. Carbon dioxides contribute over 90% of total GHG emission and the mobile source occupies about 20% of this $CO_2$ emission. Therefore automotive exhaust is suspected to be one of the major reasons of the rapid increase in greenhouse effect gases in ambient air. In this study, in order to investigate $CO_2$ emission characteristics from gasoline passenger cars(PC), which is the most dominant vehicle type in Korea, 106 vehicles were tested on the chassis dynamometer. $CO_2$ emissions and fuel efficiency were measured. The emission characteristics by displacement, gross vehicle weight, vehicle speed and CVS-75/vehicle speed mode were discussed. Test modes were vehicle speed modes and CVS-75 mode that have been used to develop emission factors and to regulate for light-duty vehicle in Korea. It was found that $CO_2$ emissions showed higher large displacement, heavy gross vehicle weight, low vehicle speed and CVS-75 mode than small displacement, light gross vehicle weight, high vehicle speed and vehicle speed mode, respectively. From these results, correlation between $CO_2$ emission and fuel efficiency was also determined. The results of this study will contribute to domestic greenhouse gas emissions calculation and making the national policy for climate change.

승용차의 이산화탄소(CO2) 배출특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Characteristics of Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Passenger Cars)

  • Automotive exhaust is suspected to be one of the major reasons of the rapid increase in greenhouse effect gases in ambient air. As the concerns regarding global worming were increased, the pressure on mobile source greenhouse gas (GHG) emission were also increased. Carbon Dioxides contribute over 90% of total GHG emission and the mobile source occupies about 20% of this $CO_2$ emission. In this study, in order to investigate $CO_2$ emission characteristics from gasoline and LPG passenger cars (PC), which is the most dominant vehicle type in Korea, 53 vehicles were tested on the chassis dynamometer. $CO_2$ emissions and fuel consumption efficiency were measured. The emission characteristics by fuel type, model year, mileage, vehicle speed and transmission type were also discussed. Test modes used in this study were NIER 10 modes and CVS-75 mode, which have been used for developing emission factors and testing new vehicles respectively. The results of this study showed that the main factors which have significant influences on the $CO_2$ emissions are fuel type, transmission type, displacement of vehicle and mileage. The correlation between $CO_2$ emission and FE was also determined by comparing $CO_2$ emission and fuel consumption efficiency. The overall results of this study will greatly contribute to domestic greenhouse gas emissions calculation and designing national strategies for climate change.

  • 세계적인 에너지 및 온난화 문제로 이에 대한 개선은 필연적인 과제가 되었다. 그러나 기존의 대응은 건설단계와 운용단계의 에너지 소비절감에 집중되어 왔다. 상대적으로 유지관리 및 해체 폐기단계의 관리는 소홀하였다. 본 연구에서는 건설 전 생애주기에 걸쳐 각 건설단계 별로 발생하는 환경부하를 정량적으로 예측하여 평가하고, 각 공정별로 환경부하를 평가할 수 있는 시스템을 개발하였다. 또한 건설 전과정에서의 환경부하 평가 및 저감을 위한 객관적이고 신뢰성 있는 의사결정 모델을 제시하였다. 또한 프로그램의 현장 적용성을 검토하기 위해 실제 해체공사를 대상으로 시험평가를 실시하였다. 이를 통해 친환경 건설기술 개발에 일조하고 저탄소 녹색성장에 기여하고자 한다.

이산화탄소 배출량을 고려한 국내 컨테이너터미널 환경 효율성 분석 (A Study on the Environmental Efficiency of the Container Terminals in South Korea Considering Carbon Dioxide Emissions)

  • 전 세계적으로 기후변화에 대응하기 위하여 탈탄소화의 중요성이 강조되고 있으며, '2050 탄소중립'이 글로벌 의제로 부상하였다. 국내 항만공사는 정부의 탄소중립 추진과제에 맞추어 세계적인 탄소중립 규제 흐름에 동참하고 있다. 항만에서 탈탄소화가 중요하게 인식되기 시작하면서, 2010년대 이후로 유해산출물을 고려한 컨테이너터미널 효율성 분석이 다양하게 진행되고 있다. 하지만, 이산화탄소 배출량을 고려하여 국내 컨테이너터미널의 효율성을 비교분석한 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 또한, 대부분의 선행연구는 IPCC 가이드라인에서 제시하고 있는 Tier 1 기준에 따라 이산화탄소 배출량을 측정하였으며, Tier 3 기준에 따라 효율성을 분석한 연구는 미비한 상황이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 17개 국내 컨테이너터미널 운영사를 대상으로 Tier 3 방식 기준 이산화탄소 배출량 지표를 활용하여 효율성을 분석하였다. 그리고 DEA-SBM 모형과 Undesirable Outputs 모형 분석결과를 비교분석하여 유해산출물 고려 전후의 효율성 변화를 파악하였다.

국내 전력 발전 및 산업 부문에서 탄소 포집 및 저장(CCS) 기술을 이용한 이산화탄소 배출 저감 (Reduction of Carbon-Dioxide Emission Applying Carbon Capture and Storage(CCS) Technology to Power Generation and Industry Sectors in Korea)

  • 2004년 기준, 온실가스(GHG; Greenhouse Gas) 총 배출량 약 5억9,060만톤(t)$CO_2$로 배출량 세계 10위권인 우리나라는 국제 환경의 변화를 볼 때 향후 반드시 GHG를 감축해야한다. 2004년 국내 에너지 부문 중, 전력 발전 및 산업 부분에서 배출된 이산화탄소(CO$_2$)량은 총 2억9,685만t으로 우리나라 GHG 전체 발생량의 53.3%를 차지하여 이 두 분야에서 CO$_2$ 배출을 감축시키는 것이 가장 시급하고 중요한 문제이다. 또한 이 두 분야는 산업의 특성상 CCS(Carbon Capture and Storage) 기술을 적용하여 효율적으로 CO$_2$를 저감할 수 있는 가장 잠재력이 높은 분야이다. 두 분야에서 효율적으로 적용될 수 있는 CCS 기술로 단기적으로는 amine을 이용한 화합흡수법이, 중, 장기적으로는 ATR(Autothermal reforming), 또는 MSR-H2(Methane steam reformer with hydrogen separation membrane reactor)가 장착된 연소 전 기술과, SOFC+GT(Solid oxide fuel cell-Gas turbine) 같은 순산소 연소 기술이 가장 유리 할 것으로 예상된다. 이와 같은 최신 연소 전 및 순산소 연소 기술을 이용하면 향후 CO$_2$ 포집 비용을 $US 8.5-43.5/tCO$_2$로 줄일 수 있으며 이를 이용하여 전력 발전 및 산업 부분에서 발생하는 CO$_2$의 10%만을 감축하더라도 약 3,000만t의 CO$_2$를 저감할 수 있겠다.

  • 외부사업을 통해 발행받은 인증실적을 배출권 거래제 할당 대상 업체에게 판매하고 할당 대상업체는 구매한 외부사업 인증실적을 상쇄 배출권으로 바꾸어 할당량을 확보할 수 있다. 본 방법론은 기존 기름보일러를(유종별) 사용하던 화석연료를 상대적으로 탄소 함량이 적은 프로판가스를 사용하는 보일러로 교체하였을 때 유종별 이산화탄소 배출 감축분을 인정받아 온실가스 감축을 하지 못해 배출허용량을 넘긴 대기업의 부족된 할당량으로 보충하기 위한 초기 분석으로 탄소감축 배출량과 배출권 거래 금액을 산출하였다.

Techno-economic assessment of a very small modular reactor (vSMR): A case study for the LINE city in Saudi Arabia

  • Recently, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) announced the development of first-of-a-kind(FOAK) and most advanced futuristic vertical city and named as 'The LINE'. The project will have zero carbon dioxide emissions and will be powered by clean energy sources. Therefore, a study was designed to understand which clean energy sources might be a better choice. Because of its nearly carbon-free footprint, nuclear energy may be a good choice. Nowadays, the development of very small modular reactors (vSMRs) is gaining attention due to many salient features such as cost efficiency and zero carbon emissions. These reactors are one step down to actual small modular reactors (SMRs) in terms of power and size. SMRs typically have a power range of 20 MWe to 300 MWe, while vSMRs have a power range of 1-20 MWe. Therefore, a study was conducted to discuss different vSMRs in terms of design, technology types, safety features, capabilities, potential, and economics. After conducting the comparative test and analysis, the fuel cycle modeling of optimal and suitable reactor was calculated. Furthermore, the levelized unit cost of electricity for each reactor was compared to determine the most suitable vSMR, which is then compared other generation SMRs to evaluate the cost variations per MWe in terms of size and operation. The main objective of the research was to identify the most cost effective and simple vSMR that can be easily installed and deployed.

이산화탄소 지중저장의 국내적용을 위한 위해성 평가 방안 (A risk assessment of $CO_2$ geological storage for domestic application)

  • In recent years, the importance of Carbon Capture and Storage (hereafter CCS) is growing bigger and bigger. The development and commercialization of CCS technology are concerned for reducing carbon dioxide($CO_2$) emissions. For the most studies, the technology of $CO_2$ storage is known as the geological storage, ocean sequestration, mineral carbonation, industrial utilization, and so on. The geological storage is adjudged the most reasonable technology from economic and environmental aspects. Generally, the $CO_2$ geological storage is comprised of compression - transportation - drilling/injection - storage/management process. The critical problem is a leakage of $CO_2$ in all process. For resolving a leakage problem, it is necessary to predict and build a monitoring system. Those systems are proved safety of a leakage and received positive social perceptions of $CO_2$ geological storage. For those reasons, a risk assessment of $CO_2$ geological storage is required. A risk assessment is an estimated process of the possible effects when spilling $CO_2$. Although numerous studies of risk assessment have studied, it is incomplete to evaluate a risk and disaster quantitatively. The risk assessment will be developed for domestic application and safe $CO_2$ geological storage considering characteristics of Korea.
