개방형 CNC를 가지는 공작기계의 고장진단과 웹 서비스 기술 (Web Service Application for Machine Tool Fault with Open Architecture CNC)

  • The conventional CNC(Computerized Numerical Controller) of machine tool, which is dependent to CNC maker, was a closed architecture type. Therefore, it is impossible to implement a special user-define function to CNC. But recently, CNC is changed to OAC(Open Architecture Controller) type increasingly and the general function of CNC can be upgrade efficiently. This paper describes web service application for remote monitoring regarding the faults or machine tool with open architecture CNC. The major faults of CNC machine tool can be defined to the operational faults to be charged over 70%. Those faults are unpredictable because of being occurred without any warning. To generalize the fault diagnosis efficiently. two diagnosis models such as SF(Switching Function) and SSF(Step Switching Function) are proposed and the function of fault diagnosis is implemented to internal function of OAC. Also, to service remotely the faults of CNC machine tool. the suitable web environment is proposed and practical function is programmed to evaluate its operation on web.

Diagnosing the Cause of Operational Faults in Machine Tools with an Open Architecture CNC

  • The conventional computerized numerical controller (CNC) of machine tools has been increasingly replaced by a PC-based open architecture CNC (OAC) that is independent of a CNC vendor. The OAC and machine tools with an OAC have led to a convenient environment in which user-defined applications can be efficiently implemented within a CNC. This paper proposes a method of diagnosing the cause of operational faults. The method is based on the status of a programmable logic controller in machine tools with an OAC. An operational fault is defined as a disability that occurs during the normal operation of machine tools. Operational faults constitute more than 70 percent of all faults and are also unpredictable because most of them occur without any warning. To quickly and correctly diagnose the cause of an operational fault, two diagnostic models are proposed: the switching function and the step switching function. The cause of the fault is logically diagnosed through a fault diagnosis system using diagnostic models. A suitable interface environment between a CNC and developed application modules is constructed to implement the diagnostic functions in the CNC domain. The results of the diagnosis were displayed on a CNC monitor for machine operators and transmitted to a remote site through a Web browser. The proposed diagnostic method and its results were useful to unskilled machine operators and reduced the machine downtime.

  • A 5-axis CNC machine tool is more useful compared with a 3-axis machine tool, because the position and the orientation of a tool tip can be controlled simultaneously. Unlike the 3-axis machine tool, the 5-axis machine tool has the volumetric position error and volumetric orientation error due to the quasi-static error of each machine tool joint which is a major source of machined part error. So, the generalized error synthesis model of the 5-axis CNC machine tool was developed to predict and to compensate for the volumetric position error and the volumetric orientation error. It was proposed that a compensation algorithm to correct simultaneously the volumetric position error and the volumetric orientation error of the 5-axis CNC machine by error inverse kinematic.

  • Demands for free-form buildings are on the rise, but such building designs require most cost and longer construction schedule, with less constructability due to challenges in construction member production and installation. FCP production technology has been developed using CNC machine in a bid to resolve the difficulties of member production. Exterior finishing panels of free-form building design must be divided in size and shape that can be produced by CNC machine. To solve this problem, constraints of CNC machine and correlations between CNC machine and panel need to be reviewed. Thus, the purpose of this study is to analyze decision factors on free-form concrete panel sizes produced by CNC machines. Through this study, FCP size can be optimized, which in turn can lead to improved FCP productivity and aesthetical quality of free-form building designs determined by the pattern of exterior finishing panels. CNC machine-enabled free-form concrete panel production technology will apply on site in the future, which will not only maximize the economic benefits of the technology but also support shorter construction schedule and better constructability.

Ubiquitous-Based Mobile Control and Monitoring of CNC Machines for Development of u-Machine

  • This study was an attempt to control and monitor Computerized Numerical Controller (CNC) machines anywhere and anytime for the development of a ubiquitous machine (u-machine). With a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) phone, the machine status and machining data of CNC machines can be monitored in wired and wireless environments, including the environments of IMT2000 and Wireless LAN. Moreover, CNC machines can be controlled anywhere and anytime. The concept of the anywhere-anytime controlling and monitoring of a manufacturing system was implemented in this study for the purpose of u-manufacturing and u-machines. In this concept, the communication between the CNC controller and the PDA phone was successfully performed anywhere and anytime for the real-time monitoring and control of CNC machines. In addition, the interface between the CNC controller and the developed application module was implemented by Object linking and embedding for Process Control (OPC) and shared CNC memory. For communication, the design of a server contents module within the target CNC was based on a TCP/IP. Furthermore, the client contents module within the PDA phone was designed with the aid of embedded c++ programming for mobile communication. For the interface, the monitoring data, such as the machine status, the machine running state, the name of the Numerical Control (NC) program, the alarm and the position of the stage axes, were acquired in real time from real machines with the aid of the OPC method and by sharing the CNC memory. The control data, such as the start, hold, emergency stop, reserved start and reserved stop, were also applied to the CNC domain of the real machine. CNC machines can therefore be controlled and monitored in real time, anywhere and anytime. Moreover, prompt notification from CNC machines to mobile phones, including cellular phones and PDA phones, can be automatically realized in emergencies.

  • This paper aims to work process of connecting rod die using CAD/CAM/CNC systems. CAD/CAM/CNC systems are consist of CAD(MDT4.0), CAM(Z-MASTER) software and CNC milling machine. Tis paper proposes a method of operational fault cause diagnosis which is based on the status of programmable logic controller (PLC) in machine tools with OAC. The operational fault is defined as a disability state occurring during normal operation of machine tools. The faults are occupied by over 70% of all faults and are also unpredictable as most of them occur without any warning. Two diagnosis models, the switching function (SF) and the step switching function (SSF), are propose in order to diagnose the fault cause quickly and exactly. The cause of an occurring fault is logically diagnosed through a fault diagnosis system (FDS) using the diagnosis models. A suitable interface environment between CNC and develope application modules is constructed in order to implement the diagnostic functions in the CNC domain. The diagnosed results were displayed on a CNC monitor for machine operators and provided to a remote site through a web browser. The result of his research could be a model of the fault cause diagnosis and the remote monitoring for machine tools with OAC.

비숙련자를 위한 CNC 조각기 시스템의 개발 방안 연구 (A Development of CNC Engraving Machine System for Non-experts)

  • DIY(Do It Yourself) 중심의 창작 활동이 확산되면서 일반 사용자들이 손쉽게 아이디어를 구체화 할 수 있는 환경이 마련되고 있다. 3D 프린터를 비롯한 디지털 기술과 도구의 대중화가 급속도로 진행되고 있는 반면, CNC 조각기의 경우 전문 지식의 부족과 복잡한 사용 절차로 인해 사용이 원활하지 않다. 이에 본 연구에서는 3D 형상 모델 파일만 선택하면 자동으로 가공이 가능한 CNC 조각기의 시스템을 개발하였다. 피삭재와 공구의 크기 및 종류를 제한하고, 생산성의 배제를 통해 공정 계획 및 공구경로 생성, 피삭재 고정, 피삭재 좌표계 파악을 자동화하였다. 그 결과 비숙련자도 혼자 충분히 사용 가능한 CNC 조각기의 시스템이 개발되었다. 이를 통해 기존보다 넓은 범위에서 다양한 사용자들이 사용할 수 있는 CNC 조각기의 발전이 기대된다.

CNC 원통연삭기 이송오차의 발생요인에 관한 실험적 연구 (An experimental study on the generative elements of feed errors in CNC cylindrical grinding machine)

  • The accuracy of machine tools is the major factor concerned with the acuracy of the processed work. The feed errors of feed system in machine tool, therfore, make the machining errors of work directly on processing. In this point, this study focused on the generative elements of feed errors in CNC cylindrical grinding machine, such as supporting method of ball screw, the effect of pitch and yaw error and the position detecting method in servo system when operating its shaft of grinding wheel head. Furthermore, in order to improve the driving accuracy of this machine tool, feed errors are measured by a laser interferometer. Results obtained in this study provide some useful informations to attain high accuracy of CNC machine tool.

3축 CNC 교육용 공작기계 개발 (Developed 3-axis Educational CNC Machine Tool)

  • In this study, we developed for processing complex features using CAM software that satisfies precision for example practice and related qualification tests suiTable for CNC training purposes. In addition, functions such as location control, speed control, and processing path generation, which are the main functions of CNC machining machines, were constructed using small equipment parts, servo motors, inverters, general purpose PCs, and commercial NC software and researched with the goal of developing low-cost education equipment. In the static accuracy inspection, the degree of machine when measuring the parallelism of the X, Y and Z axes and the vibration of the main shaft did not reach the allowable value. However, we have obtained a finished product that satisfies the CNC machine book sample shape machining, detailed functions of the position control function of the CNC machine tool, linear interpolation function, circular interpolation function, and tool offset function. In the qualification test shape processing, a shape with a degree of 1/100 mm was processed to obtain position accuracy that satisfied the tolerance.
