Background: Studies of morphological variation within and among populations provide an opportunity to understand local adaptation and potential patterns of gene flow. To study the evolutionary divergence patterns of Schlegel's Japanese gecko (Gekko japonicus) across its distribution, we analyzed data for 15 morphological characters of 324 individuals across 11 populations (2 in China, 4 in Japan, and 5 in Korea). Results: Among-population morphological variation was smaller than within-population variation, which was primarily explained by variation in axilla-groin length, number of infralabials, number of scansors on toe IV, and head-related variables such as head height and width. The population discrimination power was 32.4% and in cluster analysis, populations from the three countries tended to intermix in two major groups. Conclusion: Our results indicate that morphological differentiation among the studied populations is scarce, suggesting short history for some populations after their establishment, frequent migration of individuals among the populations, and/or local morphological differentiation in similar urban habitats. Nevertheless, we detected interesting phenetic patterns that may predict consistent linkage of particular populations that are independent of national borders. Additional sampling across the range and inclusion of genetic data could give further clue for the historical relationship among Chinese, Japanese, and Korean populations of G. japonicus.

The final goal for an orthognathic surgery is a functional and esthetic achievement based on occlusion theory. All the dental treatment should be done with the occlusion in mind, though, they tend to be ignored with no good reason. We cannot think of occlusion without temporomandibular joint because it is the first clue to define an occlusion. As normal occlusion comes from the central tendency of distribution of population, we can get it by examining the population that closely meet the criteria of ideal occlusion. To perform proper occlusal function and to maintain the stability after treatment, the case must be finished in normal occlusion closer to ideal one. Our aim is to achieve the ideal occlusal scheme like the mutually protected occlusion with the best masticatory efficiency and the stability. The facial esthetics are influened by culture, race and the time in which human live. While the occlusal function rarely changes as time goes by, esthetics tend to do from one country to another. Orthodontists and maxillofacial surgeons should have solid sets of treatment goals to achieve the best facial esthetics and the ideal occlusion dictated by the joint. Doing orthognathic surgery, two factors aforementioned should be taken into account to establish the Surgical Treatment Objectives(STO). The doctors who are planning orthognathic surgery need to have a very logical and systematic thought process to make STO. The author examined 28 selected beautiful Korean female adults with normal skeleton with normal occlusion and analyzed the hard and the soft tissue relationship into five parts : dentomaxillary relationship, intermaxillary relationship, posture to hard tissue relationship, facial balance, and posture to soft tissue relationship. This study presents a sequential flow of diagnosis and treatment planning especially for surgical patients and it also can be applied to the nonsurgical patients.
In this paper, we propose a new rendering scheme of cloth by measuring light-scattering pattern inside the cloth and reproducing using the pattern. To date, the BTF(Bidirectional Texture Function) has been one of the most appropriate method to realistically reconstruct cloth surface. However, the BTF has a couple of defects that it ultimately requires an infinite amount of data and all light effects should be used all together. We noted that internal scattering has a decisive contribution to the reality of cloth. Following this observation, we take an image of a ray of light scattering inside cloth for every position of the cloth sample and determine each pixel value by adding up all light influences arriving from its vicinity. Our method we propose in this paper provides a clue to more realistically represent cloth-like materials, which is one of the most challenging materials to express, by enabling each ray to be controlled individually.
The spin states of asteroids is regarded as an important clue to understand not only the physical property of an individual object but also the dynamical evolution of the of the population as a whole. Single asteroids can be broadly classified into two separate groups according to their rotational states; Principal Axis (PA) and Non-Principal Axis (NPA) rotators. To date, lightcurve observations have been carried out mostly for PA asteroids. However, discovery of NPA objects has recently been increased due to new observing techniques, and this is the reason why rotational properties of NPA rotators became an issue. As a DEEP-South pilot study for NPA, we selected two targets, 5247 Krolv (1982 UP6) and 14764 Kilauea (7072 P-L) considering their Principal Axis Rotation (PAR) code and visibility. Observations were made between Jan. and Feb. 2016 for 17 nights employing Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet) 1.6 m telescopes installed at SSO and SAAO using DEEP-South TO (Target of Opportunity) mode. To obtain lightcurves, we conducted time-series photometry using Johnson-Cousins R-filter. Multi-band photometry was also made with BVRI filters at the same time, for taxonomy. Their preliminary lightcurves and approximate mineralogy will be presented.
Nowadays, a region is mainly constructed by a variety of subjects intentionally. Therefore, it is needed to consider the concept of the region reflecting the standpoint of various related subjects pertinently to understand today's region. Subjectivities, differences, and power relations are representative elements which play important roles in the process of constructing the region. And the inclusive concept of these elements is the tenn of 'regional identity'. The regional identity is constructed through the process of institutionalization, and this process of building identity is the process of constructing the region. The local newspaper is a representative one of the various factors influencing the process of institutionalization and serves as an important clue in understanding the process of constructing the region in Korea. In this point of view, this study also analyzes the standpoint and influence of the various institutions operating in the process of constructing the region through the articles in Hong-Seong Times. According to this study, institutionalization process have proceeded very actively in Nae-po region. But it is likely that institutionalization process have not reached to the stage of constructing region.
The complexity to search a specific content over TV platform is drastically increasing. Based on previous studies from computer data management system, we propose a new method that helps users to search and select content effectively. In general, contents over computers are represented by spatial metaphor, which replicates our physical environment and value systems about space. We suggest 3D lattice structure to construct information space for TV platform. Users can infer relevance between contents via special clue in information space, so as to select content more easily. Also, they can search contents through its temporal property that also represented in space. We make full use of our natural capability that can reduce additional overload to learning new interface. The results of this study can be significant and heuristic contributions, as they can be applied to diverse service areas utilizing video contents.
Wireless LAN system is evolving toward high-speed data transmission and more accurate channel estimation is necessarily required to improve communication performance. The PLCP preamble field in IEEE 802.11 based wireless MODEM consists of ten short symbols and two long symbols and is used for synchronization and channel estimation. The existing least square (LS) channel estimation is based on only two long training symbols. After estimating channel response separately by using each long training symbol, the final channel estimation is obtained by the average of each estimation. In this paper, a new channel estimation algorithm is presented to improve the performance of the existing LS channel estimation algorithm. From the fact that the short training symbol consists of 12 non-zero subcarriers, it gives us a clue of being able to additionally estimate at least one fourth of channel coefficients. The new LS algorithm performs channel estimation based on both two long training symbols and a short training symbol. The proposed LS algorithm shows a little bit performance improvement over the existing LS estimation and it will be able to be applied to the IEEE 802.11p WAVE system.
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that induces changes in various inflammatory skin cells. The prevalence of AD is as high as 18% in some regions of the world, and is steadily rising. However, the pathophysiology of AD is poorly understood. To identify the proteins involved in AD pathogenesis, a comparative proteomic analysis of protein expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells isolated from AD patients and healthy donors was conducted. Significant changes were observed in the expressions of fourteen proteins, including the vinculin, PITPNB, and Filamin A proteins. Among the proteins, $\alpha$-SNAP and FLNA decreased significantly, and PITPNB increased significantly in AD patients compared with control subjects; these findings were further confirmed by real-time PCR and Western blot analysis. The comparative proteome data may provide a valuable clue to further understand AD pathogenesis, and several differentially regulated proteins may be used as biomarkers for diagnosis and as target proteins for the development of novel drugs.

The purpose of this study was to isolate and identify the bacteria in osteomyelitis lesion of 3 patients. Two lesions were due to the post-infection after extraction. The other was resulted from mal-fixation of both sides of mandibular angles. Pus samples were collected by needle aspiration from the lesion and examined by culture method. Bacterial culture was performed in three culture systems (anaerobic, $CO_2$, and aerobic incubator). Identification of the bacteria was performed by 16S rRNA gene cloning and nucleotide sequencing method. Our results showed that Streptococci species was predominantly isolated in both lesions of extraction socket. Only one species (Proteus vulagris) was detected in lesion of mandibular angle. This study was not sufficient to identify the causative bacteria in those osteomyelitis. However, our data may be offered the clue to solve the problem.
The issue of patent validity becomes a subject of dispute under the FTA and there is a definite difference of opinion between China, Japan, and Korea. In other words, the validity of a judgment on the patent was exclusively under the jurisdiction of the administrative agency at a particular patent office. Thus, the issue arises where there is a potential judgment on patent validity. In this case, the Supreme Court rather than the patent office can offer a judgment from a judicial institution and can make a judgment in the case of a medication. In China, however, the lowest possibility of judgment on patent validity is predicted to occur in judicial institutions. Such a judgment is recognized as the Grand Bench Decision in Korea, and the court can judge the patent validation rather than the patent office. That is just the case in the Kilby case-it is invalid for reasons obvious in Japan. Therefore, there is a substantial difference between the three countries. Especially in Japan, where after the Kilby case, they revised the patent law in 2004 to introduce Article 104-3, placing the judgment of patent validity in the court, even if the "Apparentness"is not requisite. Per this law, infringers can argue for patent invalidity not only the judgment of the patent invalidation but also the infringement lawsuit. From the point of view of Japan, Korea became the judgment of trademark validation by extension and obvious cases can become directly to judge through the Supreme Court about the right that needs to examinations and registrations. In terms of the mediation, it also provides a clue about the judgment of intellectual property validation and expands the scope of the mediation in the future. From now on, in order to have active mediation procedures in the three countries, China, Japan, and Korea would need to unify regulations and application scopes for mediation in the FTA negotiation and to look forward to achieve a vigorous mediation approach.
