  • Surveys on the process of extracting acid from dried rinds of Garcinia oblongifolia Champ. ex Benth (G. oblongifolia) using microwave in terms of time, machine power and solid/liquid rate, have resulted in such findings as: the best time allocation for extracting is 25 minutes; machine power works best at level 2 (microwave power is 400 W); suitable rate of solid/liquid is 0.071 (approximately 150 mL solvent per 10 g of sample). The total amounts acid and (-)-hydroxycitric acid extracted from 100 g dried rinds of G. oblongifolia are 18.592 g and 10.137g respectively. This is the first finding on extraction of (-)-HCA from dried rinds of G. oblongifolia using microwave.

  • For the understanding the locus of the Quinling-Dabie-Sulu continental collision's boundary and the underground structure of the sedimentray basin in the Yellow Sea, three dimensional density modelling is carrid out by using gravity dataset (Free Air Anomaly), which is measured by Tamhae 2, KIGAM in a period 2000 - 2002. The measured gravity anomaly in the investigations area is mainly responsed by depth distribution of the sedimentary basin. After comparing the sea-measured gravity data to CHAMP-GRACE satellite gravity data, I suggested that the high density model bodies extend mainly from the southern part of China to the middle-western part of the Korean Peninsula., which might be emplaced along the continental collision's boundary. The total volume of very low density bodies modified by modelling might be about $20000\;km^3$.

  • On board satellite magnetometer measures all possible magnetic components, such as the core and crustal components from the inner Earth, and magnetospheric, ionospheric and' its coupled components from the outer Earth. Due to its dipole and non-dipole features, separation of the respective component from the measurements is most difficult unless the comprehensive knowledge of each field characteristics and the consequent modeling methods are solidly constructed. Especially, regional long wavelength magnetic signals of the crust are strongly masked by the main field and dynamic external field and hence difficult to isolate in the satellite measurements. In particular, the un-modeled effects of the strong auroral external fields and the complicated behavior of the core field near the geomagnetic poles conspire to greatly reduce the crustal magnetic signal-to-noise ratio in the polar region relative to the rest of the Earth. We can, however, use spectral correlation theory to filter the static lithospheric and core field components from the dynamic external field effects that are closely related to the geomagnetic storms affecting ionospheric current disturbances. To help isolate regional lithospheric anomalies from core field components, the correlations between CHAMP magnetic anomalies and the pseudo-magnetic effects inferred from satellite gravity-derived crustal thickness variations can also be exploited, Isolation of long wavelengths resulted from the respective source is the key to understand and improve the models of the external magnetic components as well as of the lower crustal structures. We expect to model the external field variations that might also be affected by a sudden upheaval like tsunami by using our algorithm after isolating any internal field components.

  • The AOPOD (Atmosphere Occultation and Precision Orbit Determination) system, the secondary payload of KOMPSAT (KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite)-5 scheduled to be launched in 2010, shall provide GPS radio occultation data. In this paper, we simulated the GPS radio occultation characteristic of KOMPSAT-5 and retrieved electron density profiles using KROPS (KASI Radio Occultation Processing Software). The electron density retrieved from CHAMP (CHAllenging Minisatellite Payload) GPS radio occultation data on June 20, 2004 was compared with IRI (International Reference Ionosphere) - 2001, PLP (Planar Langmuir Probe), and ionosonde measurements. When the result was compared with ionosonde measurements, the discrepancies were 5 km on the $F_2$ peak height ($hmF_2$) and $3{\times}10^{10}el/m^3$ on the electron density of the $F_2$ peak height ($NmF_2$). By comparing with the Laugmuir Probe measurements of CHAMP satellite (PLP), both agrees with $1.6{\times}10^{11}el/m^3$ at the height of 365.6 km.

  • The Baegdusan Volcano which erupted violently at 1000 AD is still have possibility of eruption. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor regularly the possibility of eruption. However, it is very difficult to install regular monitoring system or to get regularly monitored data due to geopolitic problems. This is why we have to develop regular monitoring technique using satellite. The geoid in the Baegdusan Volcanic area calculated from gravity data obtained from GRACE satellite, decreased from 2002 to 2005. The period of decreasing is well matched with time when magma activities were recognized in the Baegdusan Volcanic area. The decrease in geoid is interpreted to be caused by the decrease of water storage. Considering that the amount of rainfall from 2002 and 2005 is almost constant, the decrease in geoid may be related to the magma activity under the Baegdusan Volcano. The geomagnetic total force in the Baegdusan Volcanic area measured by CHAMP satellite, decreased from 2000 to 2005 and increased after 2005. The period of decrease is well matched with the time with increased activity of magma chamber under the Baegdusan Volcano indicating that the decrease of geomagnetic total force is caused by demagnetization of surrounding rocks due to the increase of temperature of magma chamber. These data indicate the possbility of using change of geoid and geomagnetic total force observed by GRACE and CHAMP satellites for the monitoring of magma activity under the Baegdusan Volcano.

  • The number of SMEs taking up information systems such as Enterprise Resource Planning has been growing rapidly, and many of those organizations have stepped into the stage of ongoing use at this point. Thus, research which takes into account idiosyncratic nature of SME environment is more important than before. Through an empirical study using survey method, we tried to examine the importance of end user's feedback seeking behavior in SMEs and how environmental factors affecting such behavior reinforce and interact with the feedback seeking behavior itself. The result shows that end user's active role as a voluntary feedback seeker is important in utilizing information systems in accordance with the initial design intention in ongoing use environment. Furthermore, in order to facilitate such feedback seeking behavior in SME environment, it is essential that management's involvement and communicating to its employees the importance of effectively utilizing the information systems as well as the support of peer IT champ.

  • The purpose of this paper is to evaluate a new geopotential model, EIGEN-CG01C which had been developed from CHAMP and GRACE mission observations and surface gravity data. The accuracy analysis was conducted by comparing the geoidal heights computed from two types of geopotential models (i.e., EIGEN-CG01C and EGM96) with spirit leveled GPS bench mark. To this end, three hundred twenty GPS leveled bench marks are used as bases for the numerical investigation. From the analysis, it was possible to conclude that EIGEN-CG01C was more suitable to upgrade the KGEOID 98 since the results that the EGM96 was slightly biased.
