The novel blue light emitting material, 9,10-bis(3',5'-diphenylphenyl)anthracene (BDA) was synthesized by Suzuki coupling reaction and characterized by the measurements of 1H NMR, 13C NMR and FT-IR. The new anthracene derivative, which contains anthracene as a main core unit and 3',5'-diphenylphenyl group derivative as wings, has high fluorescence yield, good thermal stability, and high glass transition temperature at 188 oC. With the newly non-doped blue emitting material in the multilayer device structure, it was possible to achieve the current efficiency of 3.0 cd/A. The EL spectrum of the ITO/CuPc/α-NPD/BDA/Alq3/LiF/Al device showed a maximum wavelength (λmax) at 440 nm. The emitting color of device showed the blue emission (x,y) = (0.18,0.19) at 10 mA/cm2 in CIE (Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage) chromaticity coordinates.

Effects of a rainfall event (July 28, 2005) on the hydrochemical characteristics of the Jungrang river, the biggest tributary of the Han river, was investigated. Significant spatial variations in the hydrochemical characteristics were observed. At JR2 location, concentrations of T-N and T-P were relatively low indicating occurrence of active oxidation in the stepped drop structure. At JR3 location, concentrations of Na, K, Cl, $NH_4-N$ and EC were elevated suggesting increased discharge from the nearby waste-water treatment plant and tributaries. The rain event diluted major dissolved ion concentrations in the river by 12~52%. The $NO_3-N$ levels were preserved during the rain then increased about twofold after rainfall, suggesting increased discharge of nitrate-contaminated groundwater. Heavy metals including Cd, Co, Cr, Cu and Pb were not detected in all water samples and the leachates from surface sediment samples. Concentrations of Fe, Mn, Al and Zn were below the Korean Drinking Water Guideline. Results of this study suggested that establishment of water-quality monitoring protocols describing temporal and spatial variations in parameters sensitive to rainfall events, relatively steady factors, and contaminant sources is required.
The effects of irradiation on the functional and structural characteristics of soy protein isolates were studied. Soymilk was irradiated at 1, 5, and l0kGy, after which soy protein isolates were prepared. The functional properties of soy protein isolates were examined including solubility, emulsion capacity and stability, foam capacity and stability, structural properties as represented by SDS-PAGE pattern, and secondary and tertiary structures. The solubility and emulsion capacity were increased by radiation treatment at 1kGy however the values were adversely affected again as dosage was increased above 5kGy. As irradiation dosage increased, an increase of foaming capacity at 1kGy and a decreasing turnover afterwards were also noted in foaming capacity, although the differences were not statistically significant. The SDS-PAGE pattern showed fragmentation and aggregation of protein molecules as affected by irradiation in proportion to the dosage increase. The results of CD and fluorescence spectroscopy revealed increased aperiodic structure contents with the dosage increase. It was assumed that irradiation dosagefrom 5 to l0kGy could initiate minimal denaturation of protein in various foods compared to general heat treatment.
In this paper, investigations on a three stage processing technique involving the co-evaporation of In-Se, Cu-Se and In-Se in this order at different deposition condition was undertaken. At first stage, we obtained good $In_{2}Se_{3}$ films by In-Se coevaporation. $In_{2}Se_{3}$ films show smooth and dense structure. And ration of In:Se was 2:3 $CulnSe_2$ thin films deposited by three stage process have shown strong adhesion on Mo coated glass substrates and good morphological properties suitable device fabrication. XWD spectra show single phase chalcopyrite $CulnSe_2$ films with strong orientation in the 112 plane. Resistivity of $CulnSe_2$ thin films was about $5{\times}10^{5}\;{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$. Surface morphology of CdS/$CulnSe_2$/Mo films was very good because of no pin holes.

We have fabricated white organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) using several thicknesses of electron-transport layer. The multi-emission layer structure doped with red and blue phosphorescent guest emitters was used for achieving white emission. 2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline (BCP) was used as an electron-transport layer. The thickness of BCP layer was varied to be 20, 55, and 120 nm. The current efficiency, emission and recombination characteristics of multi-layer white OLEDs were investigated. The BCP layer thickness variation results in the shift of emission spectrum due to the recombination zone shift. As the BCP layer thickness increases, the recombination zone shifts toward the electron-transport layer/emission-layer interface. The white OLED with a 55 nm thick BCP layer exhibited a maximum current efficiency of 40.9 cd/A.

Recently, microcavity is studied to reduce the optical loss of BLU and OLED. In this paper, we suggest applying microcavity to photo-luminescent lamp with plasma discharge technology to meet the display applications for a BLU for LCD. The structure of photo-luminescent lamp consists of SUS foil and ITO glass with microcavity. The opto-electric characteristics of photo-luminescent lamp with microcavity was evaluated. The brightness of photo-luminescent device was increased over $111cd/m^2$ with the adaptation of patterned microcavity at $30{\mu}m$. The 3D optical simulation verified the enhanced light outcoupling when microcavity applied to the device.
A general purpose program NUFLEX for the analysis 3-D thermo/fluid flow and pre/post processor in complex geometry has been developed, which consists of a flow solver based on FVM and GUI based pre/post processor. The solver employs a general non-orthogonal grid system with structured grid and solves laminar and turbulent flows with standard/RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}\;SST$ turbulence model. In addition, NUFLEX is incorporated with various physical models, such as interfacial tracking, cavitation, MHD, melting/solidification and spray model. For the purpose of verification of the program and testing the applicability, many actual problems are solved and compared with the available data. Comparison of the results with that by STAR-CD or FLUENT program has been also made for the same flow configuration and grid structure to test the validity of NUFLEX.

Indium sulfide thin films have been grown onto glass substrates using radio frequency magnetron sputtering at room temperature. The as-deposited film were annealed in nitrogen atmosphere at different temperatures of 100, 200, 300, 400 and $500^{\circ}C$ with an 1 h annealing time. The effect of annealing temperature on composition, structure, morphology and optical properties of the as-grown In2S3 films has been studied. The XRD results indicate that the as-deposited films are composed by a mixture of both cubic ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ crystalline phases, with some fraction of tetragonal phase. The thermal annealing on the films produces the conversion of the cubic crystalline phases to the tetragonal ${\beta}$ one and a crystalline reorientation of the latter phase. The surface morphological analysis reveals that the films grown at $300^{\circ}C$ have an average grain size of ~ 58 nm. These films show a S/In ratio of 0.99. The optical band gap is found to be direct and the films grown at $300^{\circ}C$ shows a higher optical transmittance of 80% and an energy band gap of 2.52 eV.
The Daebong gold-silver deposits is located in 8 km southwest of Cheongyang, Chungcheongnam-Do, Republic of Korea. The gold-silver-bearing hydrothermal quartz veins was formed within the Precambrian metasediments of Gyeonggi massif. Ore minerals occur as mainly of pyrite, sphalerite (0.78~6.19 wt.% Cd), galena, pyrrhotite and minor amounts of chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite, magnetite, ilmenite, chalcocite, electrum (55.00~89.55 wt.% Au) and argentite. The gangue minerals are quartz, calcite, chlorite, K-feldspar, biotite. Wall-rock alterations such as chloritization, silicification, pyritization, carbonatization and sericitization can be observed near the quartz veins. According to the mineral paragenetic sequence based on vein structure and mineral assemblages, three stage mineralizations can be recognized. Fluid inclusion, sulfur isotope and thermodynamic data show that the ore minerals were dominantly deposited at the between 388 and $204^{\circ}C$ from fluids with salinities of 8.1~0.3 wt.% equivalent NaCl, and sulfur isotope value 4.84 to 6.40 per mil of sulfides indicates igneous sources of sulfur in the hydrothermal system and fluid inclusion salinity data suggest that thermal fluids may have magmatic origin with some degree mixing of meteoric water.
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) non-structural protein 5A protein (NS5A), which consists of three functional domains, is involved in regulating viral replication, interferon resistance, and apoptosis. Recently, the three-dimensional structure of the domain 1 was determined. However, currently the molecular basis for the domains 2 and 3 of HCV NS5A is yet to be defined. Toward this end, we expressed, purified the domain 2 of the NS5A (NS5A-D2), and then performed biochemical and structural studies. The purified domain 2 was active and was able to bind NS5B and PKR, biological partners of NS5A. The results from gel filtration, CD analysis, 1D $^1H$ NMR and 2D $^1H-^{15}N$ heteronuclear single quantum correlation (HSQC) spectroscopy indicate that the domain 2 of NS5A appears to be flexible and disordered.
