Gambir is a non-wood forest product with a potential of being used as wood adhesive, due to about 33% catechin in it. Meanwhile, catechins and sucrose have not been studied as adhesives. Therefore, basic characteristics of gambir-sucrose adhesives were investigated. In this research, adhesives were prepared by dissolving gambir and sucrose in distilled water, at different blending ratios of the gambir/sucrose such as 100/0, 75/25, 50/50, and 25/75 wt%. Furthermore, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was employed to determine the gambir chemical compositions, and Fourier transform-infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was carried out to identify chemical bonds. Particleboards with a target density of 0.8 g/㎤ were then manufactured by hot-pressing for 10 min at 200℃. The internal bond (IB) strength of particleboard was subsequently measured. Based on the GC-MS analysis, 31.11% of catechin was identified. In addition, the viscosity, density, solid content, and gelation time of the adhesives, and insoluble matter content (IMC) in boiling water were 7.30~33.24 mPa.s, 1.2~1.3 g/㎤, 25.56~28.44%, 73~420 min, and 29.75~62.10%, respectively. Adding sucrose to the adhesive was observed to raise the IMC from 49.05 to 62.10%, at 180℃ and 200℃. FT-IR analysis showed that the gambir absorption peaks occurred at approximately 1620 cm-1, assigned to the C=O stretching of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, which tended to increase with the addition of sucrose. The reaction between gambir and sucrose was observed in the form of the dimethylene ether bridge. The 25/75 wt% gambir-sucrose adhesives and 200℃ hot-pressed temperature resulted in the highest IB strength (0.89 MPa), and met the requirement of JIS A5908-2003 type 18. Consequently, the gambir-sucrose adhesive could be used as a particleboard adhesive.

Methyl methacrylate(MMA) was grafted onto microcrystalline cellulose(MCC) with ceric ammonium nitrate(CAN) as a redox initiator at the various conditions. The cellulose triacetate(CTA) composite films added MCC and MMA-grafted MCC powders were prepared on a glass plate. The graft yield(GY) and graft efficiency(GE) of the grafted MCC were calculated with the simple equations by the weight balance method. The double bond of C=O on the grafted MCC surfaces was confirmed by the fourier transform infrared spectroscopy with attenuated total reflection(FT-IT ATR) spectrophotometer. After grafting, the degree of crystallinity of cellulose powders was decresed by judging from x-ray diffraction(XRD) data. Scanning electron microscope(SEM) photos showed the only solvent and CAN solution could change the roughness of MCC powders and the effect of powder dispersions in composite matrix. The tensile strength of MCC/CTA composite films was decreased with increase of MCC powder contents. When 5% grafted MCC was added, the tensile strength of grafted MCC/CTA composite films was increased from 82.3 MPa to 97.2 MPa. The thermal property of powders was also analyzed by the thermogravimetric analysis(TGA).

Atmospheric plasma's electron temperature is less than thermal plasma, so it is useful at bio experiment. We have investigated the optical emission spectroscopy (OES) lines by spectrometer during Atmospheric plasma bombardment onto the PBS surface by using an Ar gas flow. Also we have measured the OH radical density inside the solution induced by the Atmospheric plasma bombardment. OH radical species are appeared at 308 nm and 309 nm. Densities of OH radical species has been found to be significantly decreased versus depth of the solution from 2 mm to 6 mm. OH radical density inside the PBS is measured to be about $1.87{\times}1016cm-3$ downstream at 2 mm from the surface under optimized Ar gas flow of 200 sccm in Atmospheric plasma. Also we have investigated cell viability of lung cancer and normal cell after Atmospheric plasma treatment for fixed exposure time in 60 seconds, but different depths. We used SEM, we observed change of cell morphorogy, did experiment about FDA & PI Staining method. It is found that there is selectivity between the lung cancer and lung normal cell, in which cancer cell definitely has higher cell death ratio more than normal cell. We have investigated change of bond structure in FT-IR spectroscopy, the following peaks were observed: and intense O-H peak at 3422 cm-1 and at 2925 cm-1 corresponds to C-H stretch vibrations of methylene group.
The investigation of the effect of solvent structure on the first-order solvolysis of cis-$[Co(en)_2ClNO_2]^+$ion has been extended to water + co-solvent mixtures where the co-solvents are glycerol, ethylene glycol, isopropyl alcohol and t-butyl alcohol. Rates of solvolysis have been evaluated by spectrophotometric method at temperature 25∼30$^{\circ}$C. The polarity of solvent has influence on the variation of rate constant. The non-linear plot of the rate constant in log scale versus $\frac{D-1}{2D+1}$ implies that change in solvent structure with composition plays an important role in determining the variation of rate constant. The linearity of the plot of the rate constant in log scale versus the Grundwald-Winstein Y factor confirms that the solvolysis is an Id-type process with considerable extension of the metal chloride bond in the transition state. In the Kivinen equation the slope of the plot of log k versus $log(H_2O)$ suggests that the solvolysis is also an Id-type process. The application of free energy cycle shows that the effect of solvent structure is greater in the transition state than in the initial state.

The use of the carbon nanotube (CNT) is superior to the general powder state materials in their thermal and chemical properties. Because its ratio of diameter to length (aspect ratio) is very large, it is known to be a type of ideal nano-reinforcement material. Based on this advantage, the existing carbon black of the semiconductive shield materials used in power cables can acquire excellent properties by the use of a small amount of CNTs. Therefore, we fabricated specimens using a solution mixing method. We investigated the thermal properties of the CNT, such as its storage modulus, loss modulus, and its tan delta using a dynamic mechanical analysis 2980. We found that a high thermal resistance level is demonstrated by using a small amount of CNTs. We also investigated the chemical properties of the CNT, such as the oxidation reaction by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) made by Travel IR. In the case of the FT-IR tests, we searched for some degree of oxidation by detecting the carboxyl group (C=O). The results confirm a tendency for a high cross-linking density in a new network in which the CNTs situated between the carbon black constituent molecules show a bond using similar constructive properties.

Group II-AF_2$films such as $CaF_2$, $SrF_2$, and $BaF_2$ have been commonly used many practical applications such as silicon on insulatro(SOI), three-dimensional integrated circuits, buffer layers, and gate dielectrics in filed effect transistor. This paper presents electrical and structural properties of fluoride films as a gate dielectric layer. Conventional gate dielectric materials of TFTs like oxide group exhibited problems on high interface trap charge density($D_it$), and interface state incorporation with O-H bond created by mobile hydrogen and oxygen atoms. To overcome such problems in conventional gate insulators, we have investigated $CaF_2$ films on Si substrates. Fluoride films were deposited using a high vacuum evaporation method on the Si and glass substrate. $CaF_2$ films were preferentially grown in (200) plane direction at room temperature. We were able to achieve a minimum lattice mismatch of 0.74% between Si and $CaF_2$ films. Average roughness of $CaF_2$ films was decreased from 54.1 ${\AA}$ to 8.40 ${\AA}$ as temperature increased form RT and $300^{\circ}C$. Well fabricated MIM device showed breakdown electric field of 1.27 MV/cm and low leakage current of $10^{-10}$ A/$cm^2$. Interface trap charge density between $CaF_2$ film and Si substrate was as low as $1.8{\times}10^{11}cm^{-2}eV^{-1}$.
The purpose of this study was to identify the preventive and the progressive inhibitory effects of enamel demineralization with fluoride releasing light-and self-cured orthodontic sealants(FluoroBond), in vitro, under the polarizing light microscope and the scanning electon microscope. The polarizing light microscopic group was subdivided into seven groups(Group A-Group G). The scanning electron microscopic group was also subdivided into seven groups(Group A'-Goup G'). For polarizing light microscopic evaluation, longitudinal sections were made longitudinally by Maruto cutter(Maruto Co., Japan) and Maruto grinding machine(Maruto Co., Japan). Sections were examined and photographed by the polarizing light microscope(Olympus Optical Co., Japan) using crossed polars and with the enamel rod longitudinal axis oriented at $45^{\circ}$ to the extinction position. For scanning electron microscopic evaluation, the specimens were coated with a highly conducting layer of gold palladium in a model Hus-4 high-vacuum evaporator and examined in an ISI-100B scanning electron microcope operated at 20kV. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The mean depths of artificial carious lesions under a polarized light microscope were $Group\;A(5.08{\mu}m),\;Group\;B(47.82{\mu}m,\;Group\;C(8.42{\mu}m),\;Group\;D(7.20{\mu}m),\;Group\;E(85.41{\mu}m),\;Group\;F(60.38{\mu}m),\;Group\;G(60.13{\mu}m)$. 2. There were statistically significant differences in Group B compared with Group A, C, and D(p<0.05), and also, in Group I compared with Group F and Group G(p<0.05). 3. Light-and self-cured orthodontic sealants had the preventive effects of enamel demineralization. 4. Light-and self-cured orthodontic sealants had the progressive inhibitory effects of enamel demineralization. 5. The time progress of demineralizing agent had no influence on the samples of light-and self-cured orthodontic sealants under the scanning electron microscope. 6. There was no difference between the specimens of light-and self-cured orthodontic sealants both in the polarized light microscopic group and in the scanning electron microscopic group.
Objective: The objectives of this study were to investigate the thermal gelation properties and molecular forces of actomyosin extracted from two classes of chicken breast meat qualities (normal and pale, soft and exudative [PSE]-like) during heating process to further improve the understanding of the variations of functional properties between normal and PSE-like chicken breast meat. Methods: Actomyosin was extracted from normal and PSE-like chicken breast meat and the gel strength, water-holding capacity (WHC), protein loss, particle size and distribution, dynamic rheology and protein thermal stability were determined, then turbidity, active sulfhydryl group contents, hydrophobicity and molecular forces during thermal-induced gelling formation were comparatively studied. Results: Sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis showed that protein profiles of actomyosin extracted from normal and PSE-like meat were not significantly different (p>0.05). Compared with normal actomyosin, PSE-like actomyosin had lower gel strength, WHC, particle size, less protein content involved in thermal gelation forming (p<0.05), and reduced onset temperature ($T_o$), thermal transition temperature ($T_d$), storage modulus (G') and loss modulus (G"). The turbidity, reactive sulfhydryl group of PSE-like actomyosin were higher when heated from $40^{\circ}C$ to $60^{\circ}C$. Further heating to $80^{\circ}C$ had lower transition from reactive sulfhydryl group into a disulfide bond and surface hydrophobicity. Molecular forces showed that hydrophobic interaction was the main force for heat-induced gel formation while both ionic and hydrogen bonds were different significantly between normal and PSE-like actomyosin (p<0.05). Conclusion: These changes in chemical groups and inter-molecular bonds affected protein-protein interaction and protein-water interaction and contributed to the inferior thermal gelation properties of PSE-like meat.
Oxygen reduction in an alkaline fuel cell was studied by using perovskite of $La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Co_{1-x}Fe_xO_3$(x=0.00, 0.01, 0.10, 0.20, 0.35, and 0.50) as an oxygen electrode catalyst. The changes in the catalytic properties as a function of Fe content were investigated by XRD, TG, and TPR. XRD patterns gave different lattice parameters of the catalysts. TG study revealed that Fe was so stabilized in the perovskite structure as to be hardly reduced even up to $900^{\circ}C$, and the amount of oxygen which was eliminated at high temperature increased with the fraction of Fe because Fe induced the increase of Co-O binding energy. From TPR study, ${\alpha}$-(low temperature peak) and ${\beta}$-(high temperature peak)states were observed. The bond strength of the ${\beta}$-species which was associated strongly with Co of the perovskite increased proportionally with the fraction of Fe. The ${\alpha}$-species, reversible oxygen, was the active species in the oxygen reduction. The ${\alpha}$-peak temperature which reflected the binding energy between Co and ${\alpha}$-state oxygen moved to lower temperature with the increase of lattice parameter of the catalytst due to the increase of Fe content. The decrease in the binding energy increased the activity in the oxygen reduction, but the decrease of ${\alpha}$-species with the increase of Fe content decreased the activity. The increase in the surface area with Fe content had little effect on the activity.

State of problem: Cement-retained implant-supported prostheses are routinely used in dentistry. The use of high strength cements has become more popular with the increasing confidence in the stability of the implant-abutment screw connection and the high survival rates of osseointegrated implants. No clinical data on retention of metal copings using CAD/CAM. To evaluate retention of metal copings using CAD/CAM system bonded to short titanium abutment with four different cements and compare retentive strength of metal copings with sandblasting or without sandblasting before cementation. Forty titanium abutment blocks were fabricated and divided into 4 groups of 10 samples each. Forty metal copings with occlusal hole to allow for retention testing were fabricated using CAD/CAM technology. The four cements were Fujicem(Fuji, Japan), Maxcem Elite(Kerr, USA), Panavia F2.0(Kurarary, Japan) and Superbond C&B(Sunmedical, Japan). The copings were cemented on the titanium abutment according to manufacture's recommendation. All samples were stored for 24h at 37oC in 100% humidity and tested for retention using universal testing machine(Instron) at a crosshead speed of 1.0mm/min. Force at retentive failure was recorded in Newton. The mode of failure was also recorded. Means and standard deviations of loads at failure were analyzed using ANOVA and Paired t-test. Statistical significance was set at P<0.05. Panavia F2.0 provided significantly higher retentive strength than Fujicem, Maxcem Elite(P<0.05). Sandblasting significantly increased bond strength(P<0.05). The mode of failure was cement remaining principally on metal copings. Within the limitation of this study, Panavia F2.0 showed significantly stronger retentive strength than Fujicem, Maxcem Elite(p<0.05). The Ranking order of the cements to retain the copings was Panavia F2.0, Fujicem = Maxcem Elite. Sandblasting significantly increased bond strength(P<0.05). The retentive strength of metal copings on implant abutment were influenced by surface roughness and type of cements.
