  • Let C be a closed convex set in ${\mathbb{S}}^m$ or ${\mathbb{H}}^m$. Assume that ${\Sigma}$ is an n-dimensional compact minimal submanifold outside C such that ${\Sigma}$ is orthogonal to ${\partial}C$ along ${\partial}{\Sigma}{\cap}{\partial}C$ and ${\partial}{\Sigma}$ lies on a geodesic sphere centered at a fixed point $p{\in}{\partial}{\Sigma}{\cap}{\partial}C$ and that r is the distance in ${\mathbb{S}}^m$ or ${\mathbb{H}}^m$ from p. We make use of a modified volume $M_p({\Sigma})$ of ${\Sigma}$ and obtain a sharp relative isoperimetric inequality $$\frac{1}{2}n^n{\omega}_nM_p({\Sigma})^{n-1}{\leq}Vol({\partial}{\Sigma}{\sim}{\partial}C)^n$$, where ${\omega}_n$ is the volume of a unit ball in ${\mathbb{R}}^n$ Equality holds if and only if ${\Sigma}$ is a totally geodesic half ball centered at p.

  • This experiment was carried out to study the carcass characteristics, chemical composition and fatty acid profile of the Longissimus muscle (LM) of bulls (10) and steers (17) finished in a pasture system. Animals (1/2 Zebu vs. 1/2 Aberdeen Angus) were fed in a pasture system (Hermatria altissima) and with a supplement of soybean meal, cracked corn, urea, limestone and mineral salts, twice a day. Both animal groups were slaughtered at 27 months of age, with an average 508.88 kg of live weight. Final weight, hot carcass weight and texture were similar (p>0.05) between bulls and steers. Carcass dressing, fat thickness, color and marbling were higher (p<0.02) in steers. Conversely, the Longissimus area was greater (p<0.05) in bulls. Moisture levels were higher (p<0.01) in bulls. Ash, crude protein, total lipids and total cholesterol levels were higher (p<0.10) in steers. C14:0, C16:0, C16:1 n-7 and C18:1 n-9 fatty acids percentages were higher (p<0.06) in steers. C16-1 n-10, i 17:0, C19:0, C18:2 n-6, C18:3 n-3, C20:2 n-3 C20:4 n-6, C20:5 n-3, C22:1 n-7, C22:4 n-6 and C22:5 n-3 fatty acids percentages were higher (p<0.05) in bulls. The percentage of the other fatty acids was similar (p>0.05) in bulls and steers. The levels of monounsaturated fatty acids were higher (p<0.02) in steers while polyunsaturated fatty acids, n-3, n-6, PUFA/SFA and n6:n3 ratios, were higher (p<0.05) in bulls. The CLA contents (mg/g lipids) were similar (p>0.10) in bulls and steers.

  • In order to determin the optimum extraction condition for protein in a Chrysalis of Silk Worm, Temperature, Time, and pH variation were conducted in the extraction. N.S.I. and nitrogen contents of the extracts in this condition were identified by Kjeldaha method and a C.H.N. corder. The results were as follows; Crude protein and crude fat contents in the extracts were 23.34% and 15.61%, respectively. N.S.I. values with respect to the temperature variation were 6.7% at 6$0^{\circ}C$, 7.94% at 8$0^{\circ}C$ and 8.67% at 10$0^{\circ}C$ in the condition of pH 4, 1 hr. N.S.I. values in pH variation were 7.94% at pH4, 8.99% at pH6, 9.70% at pH8, 10.19% at pH 10 and 12.16% at pH 12 in the condition of 8$0^{\circ}C$, 1hr. N.S.I. values in extraction time variation were 8.67% in 1hr, 9.23% in 2hr and 9.76% in 3hr in the condition of 10$0^{\circ}C$, pH 4. The tendency of N.S.I. variation in this extration condition was reconfirmed also by a C.H.N. corder.

  • A total of 40 Korean native pigs (gilt 21, boar 19) were used to investigate the meat quality, nutritional and sensory properties by gender. Gilts had significantly lower moisture and ash contents (%) than boars, but protein contents were not significantly different between the gender (p<0.05). Gilts contained high intramuscular fat contents were significantly lower in Warner-Bratzler shear force (WBS) and Water holding capacity (WHC) when compared to those of boars. There was no significant difference in meat color L (lightness) and a (redness) values between the gender (p>0.05), but gilt had higher b (yellowiness) values than boar. Regarding amino acid compositions, there were glutamic acid (3.25%), aspartic acid (1.94%) lysine (1.83%), leucine (1.77%), alanine (1.17%) and arginine (1.15%) for gilts and boars. There were no significant differences in the contents of the minerals such as calcium, potassium, phosphorous, sodium, magnesium, iron, zinc and copper (p>0.05). The results of fatty acid composition showed that gilts had significantly higher C16:1n7, C18:1n9, in intramuscular fat., whereas they had significantly higher contents of C14:0, C16:0, C20:1n9, C20:5n3 in subcutaneous fat than boars (p<0.05). Boars had significantly higher contents of C18:0, C18:1n7, C18:2n6, C20:1n9, C20:4n6, C22:4n6 in intramuscular fat and they had significantly higher contents of C18:2n6, C22:4n6 than gilts in subcutaneous fat (p<0.05). In sensory evaluation, gilts had significantly higher scores in juiciness, tenderness and flavor when compared to boars (p<0.05).

  • Let $S_n,n$ = 1, 2,... denote the partial sums of not necessarily in-dependent random variables. Let N(c) = min${ n ; S_n > c}$, c $\geq$ 0. Theorem 2 states that N (c), (suitably normalized), tends to 0 in p-mean, 1 $\leq$ p < 2, as c longrightarrow $\infty$ under mild conditions, which generalizes earlier result by Gut(1974). The proof follows by applying Theorem 1, which generalizes the known result $E$\mid$S_n$\mid$^p$ = o(n), 0 < p< 2, as n .rarw..inf. to randomly indexed partial sums.

  • A complex $n(\geq 2)$-dimensional Kaehlerian manifold of constant holomorphic sectional curvature c is called a complex space form, which is denoted by $M_n(c)$. A complete and simply connected complex space form is a complex projective space $P_nC$, a complex Euclidean space $C^n$ or a complex hyperbolic space $H_nC$, according as c > 0, c = 0 or c < 0. Takagi [12] and Berndt [2] classified all homogeneous real hypersufaces of $P_nC$ and $H_nC$.

  • The study compared the fatty acid profiles of 3 muscles (Longissimus dorsi, LD, Triceps brachii, TB and Semimembranosus, SM) obtained from Korean Hanwoo (18 steers, 24 months old) and Australian Angus beef (18 steers, 24 months old) and assessed their role in sensory perception. The samples of each carcass were prepared in the same manner, and cooked both as traditional grilled steaks and Korean BBQ style. A total of 720 Korean sensory panelists evaluated the beef samples for tenderness, juiciness, flavor, and overall liking. Oleic acid (18:1) was significantly (p<0.05) higher in TB than that in LD and SM. The essential linoleic acid (C18:2) was significantly (p<0.05) higher in TB and SM than that in LD. For LD muscle, the proportion of saturated fatty acids was significantly (p<0.05) highest, while that of polyunsaturated fatty acids was lowest among the three muscles. Australian Angus beef had significantly (p<0.05) higher n-3 PUFA than that of the Korean Hanwoo for the three muscles, while the latter contained significantly (p<0.05) higher n-6 PUFA than that of the former. The clustering analysis showed that there a was significant difference in fatty acids such as C16:0, C16:1n7, C18:0, C18:2n6, C18:3n3, C20:3n6, C20:4n6, C22:4n6, and C22:5n3 for sensory perception (tenderness, juiciness, flavor and overall likeness) of the beef from two origins (p<0.05) among three clusters. Especially, C14:0 had a significant effect on sensory perception only for Korean Hanwoo beef; while C20:5n3 had a significant (p<0.05) effect only for Australian Angus beef based on clustering with the sensory variables.

  • This paper describes the electrical characteristics of polycrystalline (poly) 3C-SiC thin film diodes, in which poly 3C-SiC thin films on n-type and p-type Si wafers, respectively, were deposited by APCVD using HMDS, Hz, and Ar gas at $1180^{\circ}C$ for 3 hr. The schottky diode with Au/poly 3C-SiC/Si(n-type) structure was fabricated. Its threshold voltage ($V_d$), breakdown voltage, thickness of depletion layer, and doping concentration ($N_D$) values were measured as 0.84 V, over 140 V, 61nm, and $2.7\;{\times}\;10^{19}\;cm^3$, respectively. The p-n junction diodes fabricated on the poly 3C-SiC/Si(p-type) were obtained like characteristics of single 3C-SiC p-n junction diodes. Therefore, poly 3C-SiC thin film diodes will be suitable microsensors in conjunction with Si fabrication technology.

  • Let $P(G,{\lambda})$ denote the number of proper vertex colorings of G with ${\lambda}$ colors. The chromatic polynomial $P(C_n,{\lambda})$ for the cycle graph $C_n$ is well-known as $$P(C_n,{\lambda})=({\lambda}-1)^n+(-1)^n({\lambda}-1)$$ for all positive integers $n{\geq}1$. Also its inductive proof is widely well-known by the deletion-contraction recurrence. In this paper, we give this inductive proof again and three other proofs of this formula of the chromatic polynomial for the cycle graph $C_n$.
