To determine the static buckling loads and evaluate the structural performance of slender steel pipe-arches such as for greenhouse structures, a series of modal tests using a fixed hammer and roving sensors was carried out, by providing no load, then a range of vertical loads, on an arch rib in several steps. More attention was given to an internal arch where vertical and horizontal auxiliary members are not placed, unlike an end arch. Modal parameters such as natural frequencies, mode shapes and damping ratios were extracted using more advanced system identification methods such as PolyMAX (Polyreference Least-Squares Complex Frequency Domain), and compared with those predicted by commercial FEA (Finite Element Analysis) software ANSYS for various conditions. A good correlation between them was achieved in an overall sense, however the reduction of natural frequencies due to the existence of preaxial loads was not apparent when the vertical load level was about up to 38% of its resistance. Some difficulties related to the field testing and parameter extraction for a very slender arch, as might arise from the influences of neighboring members, are carefully discussed.
This study evaluated the effectiveness of V-shaped ties as an alternative to the supplementary crossties specified in ACI 318-14 on the flexural ductility of reinforced concrete columns. From column specimens tested under constant axial loads and reversed cyclic lateral loads, the mode of failure and lateral load-lateral displacement relationship were measured according to the variation of the applied axial load levels. After the columns reached the peak lateral load capacity, the $90^{\circ}$ hooks of the crossties gradually opened, which eventually caused premature buckling of the longitudinal reinforcement and severe crushing of the core concrete, whereas no V-ties were extracted from the core concrete until the column failure. As a result, the cumulative work damage indicators up to 80% of the peak lateral load for V-tie columns under the axial load level of 0.2, 0.4, and 0.55 was as much as 2.4, 2.3, and 5.2 times higher, respectively, than those of the companion crosstie columns. The superiority of the V-ties to the conventional crossties in enhancing the flexural ductility of columns became more prominent as the axial load level increases.

Structure evaluation for 70/15 $T{\times}105\;m$ LLC(Level Luffing Crane)'s boom was conducted by Finite Element Method. Boom modeled with beam element was fixed by luff rope and boom mount and was received loads from self weight, luff hoisting, traveling motion, slewing motion, and wind force, etc. These applied loads were calculated using various factors presented in the reference standards and were inputted in the analysis model after considering about the adverse conditions of LLC. In the research, deformation, stresses, buckling of boom were evaluated by ANSYS. Structural safety of boom was confirmed in the results of numerical analysis.
This research aimed to experimentally and theoretically investigate the moment strength of deck plates. A moment experiment was carried out using a full-scale 14 specimen. To prevent local buckling, the point load was applied at 1/4 points. After the experiment, theoretical analysis was conducted and the differences between various codes were identified. The experimental results were compared with AISI (the American Iron and Steel Institute), EC (Euro Code) 3, and KS (Korea Standard) codes. Analysis results are summarized as follows: (1) the failure mode was influenced by local buckling at the midpoint of the beam and/or at the intermediate loading point: (2) if yielding first occurred at the tension side, the moment strength would increase as the plastic reservation of the tension zone acted: (3) the experimental results were closest to the EC3 codes in which the partial plastic reservation was considered; (4) statistical evaluation based on the EC3 Annex Z showed that the partial resistance safety coefficient calculated applying to the EC3 formula, $^{\circ}{_M}$, was placed within 1.1 which was the target value of EC3 code; and (5) the analytical power of AISI and KS codeswere expected to improve into the level of EC3 codes if the concept of plastic reservation of the tension side would be introduced to them.
According to the capacity design concept which forms the basis of the current steel seismic codes, the braces in concentrically braced frames (CBFs) should dissipate seismic energy through cyclic tension yielding and cyclic compression buckling while the beams and the columns should remain elastic. Brace buckling in inverted V-braced frames induces unbalanced vertical forces which, in turn, impose the additional beam moments and column axial forces. However, due to difficulty in predicting the location of buckling stories, the most conservative approach implied in the design code is to estimate the column axial forces by adding all the unbalanced vertical forces in the upper stories. One alternative approach, less conservative and recommended by the current code, is to estimate the column axial forces based on the amplified seismic load expected at the mechanism-level response. Both are either too conservative or lacking technical foundation. In this paper, three combination rules for a rational estimation of the column axial forces were proposed. The idea central to the three methods is to detect the stories of high buckling potential based on pushover analysis and dynamic behavior. The unbalanced vertical forces in the stories detected as high buckling potential are summed in a linear manner while those in other stories are combined by following the SRSS(square root of sum of squares) rule. The accuracy and design advantage of the three methods were validated by comparing extensive inelastic dynamic analysis results. The mode-shape based method(MSBM), which is both simple and accurate, is recommended as the method of choice for practicing engineers among the three.

A design system for doubler reinforcement of the ship plate members subjected to in-plane shear and biaxial compressive loads was developed. This design system of doubler reinforcement on ship plate members established by design supporting system and this system was based on the buckling evaluation process of ship plate members for these in-plane loads. Each design parameters were suggested by equations as the form of influence coefficients for the doubler reinforcement subjected to the various in-plane loads including shear load. Strength of doubler plate member reinforced on the plate member could be suggested by the equivalent flat plate thickness after the consideration of corelation equations in the design system of doubler reinforcement. Level of strength recovery of ship plate members for these in-plane loads according to the local reinforcement by doubler could be suggested by use of this design system in the initial repair design stage of shipyards.

The structural system that discreterized continuous shells is frequently used to make dome-type structures and these structures show the unstable phenomena by snap-through or bifurcation when a load level reaches certain critical value. The characteristic structural behaviour of a cable dome shows a strong nonlinearity and very sensitive according to the initial imperfection. In this study the shape finding problem by applying initial tension stress is investigated and using this the unstable phenomena of perfectly shaped and initially imperfected shape model by external forces are examined to grasp the unstable behavior of cable dome using the Geiger-type model.
Steel plate shear walls (SPSWs) have been shown to be efficient lateral force-resisting systems, which are increasingly used in new and retrofit construction. These structural systems are designed with either stiffened and stocky or unstiffened and slender web plates based on disparate structural and economical considerations. Based on some limited reported studies, on the other hand, employment of low yield point (LYP) steel infill plates with extremely low yield strength, and high ductility as well as elongation properties is found to facilitate the design and improve the structural behavior and seismic performance of the SPSW systems. On this basis, this paper reports system-level investigations on the seismic response assessment of multi-story SPSW frames under the action of earthquake ground motions. The effectiveness of the strip model in representing the behaviors of SPSWs with different buckling and yielding properties is primarily verified. Subsequently, the structural and seismic performances of several code-designed and retrofitted SPSW frames with conventional and LYP steel infill plates are investigated through detailed modal and nonlinear time-history analyses. Evaluation of various seismic response parameters including drift, acceleration, base shear and moment, column axial load, and web-plate ductility demands, demonstrates the capabilities of SPSW systems in improving the seismic performance of structures and reveals various advantages of use of LYP steel material in seismic design and retrofit of SPSW systems, in particular, application of LYP steel infill plates of double thickness in seismic retrofit of conventional steel and code-designed SPSW frames.
To investigate the structural behaviour of grouped tanks under wind loads, 2 problems need to be figured out, wind pressures on tank shells and critical loads of the shell under these pressure distribution patterns. Following the wind tunnel tests described in the companion paper, this paper firstly seeks to obtain wind loads on the external wall in a squarely-arranged cylindrical tank group by numerical simulation, considering various layouts. The outcomes demonstrate that the numerical method can provide similar results on wind pressures and better insights on grouping effects through extracted streamlines. Then, geometrically nonlinear analyses are performed using several selected potentially unfavourable wind pressure distributions. It is found that the critical load is controlled by limit point buckling when the tank is empty while excessive deformations when the tank is full. In particular, significant reductions of wind resistance are found on grouped full tanks compared to the isolated tank, considering both serviceability and ultimate limit state, which should receive special attention if the tank is expected to resist severe wind loads with the increase of liquid level.

In the case of a school building, even though it is a regular structure in terms of plan shape, if the masonry infill wall acts as a lateral load resisting element, it can be determined as a torsionally irregular building. As a result, the strength and ductility of the structure are reduced, which may cause additional earthquake damage to the structure. Therefore, in this study, a structure similar to a school building with torsional irregularity was selected as an example structure and the damping performance of the PC-BRB was analyzed by adjusting the eccentricity according to the amount of masonry infilled wall. As a result of nonlinear dynamic analysis after seismic reinforcement, the torsional irregularity of each floor was reduced compared to before reinforcement, and the beams and column members of the collapse level satisfied the performance level due to the reduction of shear force and the reinforcement of stiffness. The energy dissipation of PC-BRB was similar in the REC-10 ~ REC-20 analytical models with an eccentricity of 20% or less. REC-25 with an eccentricity of 25% was the largest, and it is judged that it is effective to combine and apply PC-BRB when it has an eccentricity of 25% or more to control the torsional behavior.
