An RFID Tag Identification Protocol with Capture Effects (캡쳐 효과를 고려한 RFID 태그 인식 프로토콜)

  • In evaluating the performance of RFID systems, the tag anti-collision arbitration has been considered to be an important issue. For BT(Binary Tree) and ABS( Adaptive Binary Splitting) protocols, the so-called capture effect, which presumably happens frequently in the process of readers' receiving messages from multiple tags, can lead to some failures in detecting all tags in BT and ABS. In this paper, we propose a new anti-collision protocol, namely FTB (Feedback TagID with Binary splitting), which can solve the aforementioned problem and improve the performance.

Protoplast Formation and Regeneration of Bacillus spp. (Bacillus spp.의 원형질체 형성 및 재생)

  • This study was to provide the basic data in improving protoplast formation and regeneration of antagonistic bacteria against phytopathogenic fungi and pest. The antagonistic rhizobacterium, BS 101, against Rhizoctonia solrmi and Fusurium oxyspomm was isolated and identified as Bacillus subtilis. Another bacterium for protoplast formation and regeneration was B. thuringiensis subsp. kurstcJtiHD-l (BT 37669) which have insectcidal toxin in the orders Coleopteria, Dipteria etc.. Auxotrophic mutants, BS 1013 and BT 69, were isolated by treating with NTG 300 ug/ml for 40 min. at $37^{\circ}C$, and with NTG 300 ug/ml for 30 min. at $37^{\circ}C$, respectively. The BS 1013 and BT 69 were converted to protoplas by treating with lysozyme 300 ugh1 for 30 min. at 37C, and lysozyme 9 mglml for 60 min. at $37^{\circ}C$, respectively. The fequencies of the protoplast formation of BS 1013 and BT 69 were 90.00 and 92.83% respectively, after 1~2 day at $37^{\circ}C$. The regeneration kequencies of the protoplasts BS 1013 and B T 69 were 0.52 and 0.10%, respectively, after 4~6 days at $37^{\circ}C$.

Structural Control and Two-Dimensional Order of Organic Thiol Self-Assembled Monolayers on Au(111)

  • Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) prepared by sulfur-containing organic molecules on metal surfaces have drawn much attention for more than two decades because of their technological applications in wetting, chemical and biosensors, molecular recognition, nanolithography, and molecular electronics. In this talk, we will present self-assembly mechanism and two-dimensional (2D) structures of various organic thiol SAMs on Au(111), which are mainly demonstrated by molecular-scale scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) observation. In addition, we will provide some idea how to control 2D molecular arrangements of organic SAMs. For instance, the formation and surface structure of pentafluorobenzenethiols (PFBT) self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on Au(111) formed from various experimental conditions were examined by means of STM. Although it is well known that PFBT molecules on metal surfaces do not form ordered SAMs, we clearly revealed for the first time that adsorption of PFBT on Au(111) at $75^{\circ}C$ for 2 h yields long-range, well-ordered self-assembled monolayers having a $(2{\times}5\sqrt{13})R30^{\circ}$ superlattice. Benzenethiols (BT) SAMs on gold usually have disordered phases, however, we have clearly demonstrated that the displacement of preadsorbed cyclohexanethiol self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on Au(111) by BT molecules can be a successful approach to obtain BT SAMs with long-range ordered domains. Our results will provide new insight into controlling the structural order of BT or PFBT SAMs, which will be very useful in precisely tailoring the interface properties of metal surfaces in electronic devices.

  • In this paper, Constrained One-Bit Transform (C1BT) based motion estimation using extension of matching error criterion is proposed. C1BT based motion estimation algorithm exploiting Number of Non-Matching Points (NNMP) instead of Sum of Absolute Differences (SAD) that used in the Full Search Algorithm (FSA) facilitates hardware implementation and significantly reduces computational complexity. However, the accuracy of motion estimation is decreased. To improve inaccurate motion estimation, this algorithm based motion estimation extending matching error criterion of C1BT is proposed in this paper. Experimental results show that proposed algorithm has better performance compared with the conventional algorithm in terms of Peak-Signal-to-Noise-Ratio (PSNR).

Stimulating Effects of Far-infrared Ray Radiation on the Release of Antioxidative Phenolics in Grape Berries

  • This research was conducted to determine the effect of far-infrared ray (FIR) irradiation of grape berries as a potential application for manufacturing grape products with a high amount of antioxidant chemicals. Two grape cultivars, the red grape cv. Campbell Early and the white grape cv. Thompson Seedless, produced increased amounts of crude extracts, in the FIR treatments compared to a non-FIR treatment control with same temperature. However, total phenolic concentrations and antioxidant activity in a 'Campbell Early' increased in the extracts following FIR treatment, whereas those of 'Thompson Seedless' did not increase significantly. High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis indicated that functional components affecting antioxidant activity were significantly increased in the extract of 'Campbell Early' following FIR treatment. Our results indicate that application of FIR treatment in heat process of grapes increases levels of antioxidative phenolic chemicals and it may help to enhance the availability of antioxidative compounds in various grape food products.

Formation of Core-Shell Structure in BaTiO3 Grains

  • To understand the formation of core-shell structure in $BaTiO_3$ (BT) grains in multilayer ceramic capacitors, specimens were prepared with BT powders mixed with Y and Mg, and their microstructures were investigated with scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffractometry, and transmission electron microscopy. Microstructural investigation showed that Y dissolved easily in BT lattice to a certain depth inside of the grain, whereas Mg tended to stay at grain boundaries rather than become incorporated into BT. It was considered that in case of Y and Mg addition in a proper ratio, Y could play a dominant role in the formation of shell leading to a slight dissolution of Mg in the shell. Next, the effects of ball-milling conditions on the core-shell formation were studied. As the ball-milling time increased, the milled powders did not show a significant change in size distribution but rather an increase of residual strain, which was attributed to the milling damage. The increase in milling damage facilitated the shell formation, leading to the increased shell portion in the core-shell grain.

Development of a High Efficient "Dual Bt-Plus" Insecticide Using a Primary Form of an Entomopathogenic Bacterium, Xenorhabdus nematophila

  • A phase variation has been reported in an entomopathogenic bacterium, Xenorhabdus nematophila. Compared with a wild-type primary form, a secondary form usually loses several physiological and biochemical characters. This study showed that the phase variation of X. nematophila caused a significant alteration in its immunosuppressive activity and subsequent entomopathogenicity. A secondary form of X. nematophila was detected in laboratory colonies and exhibited significant differences in dye absorption and entomopathogenicity. In addition, the secondary form was different in its production of eicosanoid-biosynthesis inhibitors (EBIs) compared with the primary form of X. nematophila. Production of oxindole and p-hydroxypropionic acid was significantly reduced in the culture broth of the secondary form of X. nematophila. The reduced EBI production resulted in significant suppression in the inhibitory effects on cellular nodule formation and phenoloxidase activity. Culture broth of the primary form of X. nematophila enhanced the pathogenicity of Bacillus thuringiensis ( Bt) significantly more than the culture broth of the secondary form. Furthermore, this study developed a highly efficient "Dual Bt-Plus: to control both lepidopteran insect pests Plutella xylostella and Spodoptera exigua, by mixing two effective Bt strains along with the addition of potent bacterial metabolites or 100-fold concentrated X. nematophila culture broth.

  • This paper presents the design of a multi-standard NTSC/PAL video encoder. The encoder converts International Telecommunication Union-Recommendation (ITU-R) BT.601 4:2:2, ITU-R BT.656 or RGB inputs from various video sources into National Television Standards Committee (NTSC) or phase-alternate line (PAL) TV signals in both S-video and composite video baseband signals (CVBS). The encoder adopts multiplier-free structures to reduce hardware complexity. The hardware bit width of programmable digital filters for luminance and chrominance signals, along with other operating blocks, are carefully determined to produce high-quality digital video signals of 1 least significant bit (LSB) error or less. The proposed encode. is experimentally demonstrated by using the Altera APEX20K600EBC652-3 device.

The Structural and electrical Properties of $BaTiO_3$ Thin Films Deposited on Si/MgO Substrates (Si/MgO 기판에 증착된 BaTiO$_3$ 박막의 구조 및 전기적 특성)

  • $BaTiO_3$ thin films preferred c-axis orientation for the potential application of ferroelectric memory devices were deposited on silicon substrates(100) by RF sputtering and annealed at 800 and 900[$^{\circ}C$] in air. The BT(100)/BT(110) peak ratio of the sputtered sample was decreased with post-annealing in air. According to increasing with annealing temperature and time, the peak ratio of BT(100)/BT(110) was decreased and the surface density of thin film was high. Dielectric characteristics of $BaTiO_3$ thin film was measured as a function of annealing temperature and frequency. The dielectric constants were increased with annealing and decreased with frequency by space charge polarization and dipole polarization below 600[kHz]. The remanent polarization and coercive field in P-E hysteresis loop of $BaTiO_3$thin film were increased with the annealing temperature in air. The remanent polarization and coercive filed annealed at 800[$^{\circ}C$] for 1hr were 1.2[$\mu$C/$cm^2$] and 200[kV/cm]

Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity by the Combined Influence of Ferroelectric Domain and Au Nanoparticles for BaTiO3 Fibers

  • Ferroelectric particles have been applied in the photocatalytic field because the spontaneous polarization results in the internal electric field, which can accelerate the separation and migration of photogenerated carriers. In this study, the $BaTiO_3$ (BT) fibers are synthesized by electrospinning. The BT fibers calcined above $800^{\circ}C$ exhibit a strong ferroelectric property, which is verified by a typical butterfly-shaped displacement-voltage loop. It is found that the BT fibers with the single-domain structure exhibit better photocatalytic performance than that with the multi-domain configuration. When the single-domain transforms into multi-domain, the integrated internal electric field correspondingly breaks up, inducing that the internal electric field might cancel each other out and diminish the separation of photogenerated carriers. Also, the Au nanoparticles can improve the photocatalytic activity further on account of the surface plasmon resonance. Therefore, it is suggested that Au nanoparticles decorated on ferroelectric BT nanomaterials are promising photocatalysts.
