익모초(益母草) 추출액이 국소 뇌혈류량 및 평균혈압에 미치는 영향 (Effects of LEONURI HERBA Extract on the Regional Cerebral Blood Flow and Mean Arterial Blood Pressure in Normal Rats)

  • The study was designed to investigate the effects of Leonuri herba extract (LHE) on the change of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and mean arterial blood pressure (MABP) in normal rats, and further to determine the mechanism of action of LHE. The results in normal rats were as follows, LHE significantly increased rCBF in a dose-dependent manner, and MABP did not change in a dose-dependent manner. This results were suggested that LHE significantly increased rCBF by dilating pial arterial diameter. The LHE-induced increase in rCBF was significantly inhibited by Pretreatment with indomethacin(1 mg/kg, i.p.), an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, and was significantly inhibited by methylene blue($10{\mu}g/kg$, i.p.), an inhibitor of guanylate cyclase. The LHE-induced MABP did not change by pretreatment with indomethacin but was significantly inhibited by methylene blue. This results were suggested that the mechanism of LHE was mediated by cyclooxygenase.

  • The study was designed to investigate the effects of MokhwyangJoki-san Extract (MJSE) on the change of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) and mean arterial blood pressure (MABP) in normal rats, and further to determine the mechanism of MJSE. The results in normal rats were as follows ; MJSE significantly increased rCBF in a dose-dependent manner, and MABP did not change in a dose-dependent manner. 중풍환자에 있어 십선용사혈이 혈압 및 체온에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Venesection at the Sybsun-points on Blood Pressure and Body Temperature in Patients with Stroke)

  • Background and Purpose: Sybsun-points are located at the tips of all fingers, 0.1chon from the finger nails, totaling 10 points on both hands. These points have been used for emergency care, fainting, epilepsy, cerebrovascular accidents, hypertension, unconsciousness, high fever etc. The most common technique is bleeding with a needle at these points. Hypertension and fever are the main factors for stroke patients’progress. We investigated whether venesection at Sybsun-points has effects on blood pressure and body temperature in stroke patients. Materials and Methods: 79 stroke patients were enrolled in this study from 1 Jan. 1999 to 30 Sep. 1999. All of them were admitted in Kyunghee University, Hospital of Oriental Medicine. Among them, 62 patients were hypertensive people, 17 were normal. Among the hypertensive patients, 27 were stage 1,20 were stage 2, 15 were stage 3 by classification of JNC 1997. All of the hypertensive patients had been taking drugs, while the normal group did not. From 2pm to 3pm, every 30 minutes we checked patients' blood pressure and body temperature by 24ABPM and tympanic thermometer. After 30 minutes passed, we phlebotomized patients Sybsun-points with Samneung needle 2-3cc of blood. Right after the bleeding, we checked blood pressure and body temperature. After the bleeding, for the next hour and a half, we checked each patient’s blood pressure and body temperature every thirty minutes, or a total of three times. We compared the blood pressure and the body temperature before and after treatment(p<0.05). Results: 1. Venesection at Sybsun-points significantly decreased systolic blood pressure on stage 3 hypertensive patients(p<0.0l). 2. Venesection at Sybsun-points significantly decreased diastolic blood pressure on stage 3 hypertensive patients(p<0.05) 3. Venesection at Sybsun-points had no effect on the change of body temperature. Conclusions: Though further study is needed, our findings suggest that Venesection at Sybsun-points may alleviate hypertension in stroke patients.

  • Blood pressure is possible to diagnose a disease associated with blood pressure and judgment the current health of patients. Automatic blood pressure monitor capable of measuring a blood pressure easily in hospital and at home have become spread. In this study, we developed the blood pressure simulator (BPS) that can test the arm-type automatic blood pressure monitor that is commonly used in hospital. BPS is to produce a pressure similar to the pressure wave generated in the human blood using a servo disk motor. Then, using the silicon tube, it implements the situations such as human blood vessels, and to output the generated pressure waveform. Simply the BPS's phantom put on the cuff and it is able to simulate blood pressure. So anyone can quickly test the blood pressure monitor within one minute and it is possible to shorten the test time required for the automatic blood pressure monitor. In Performance test, the trends and the standard deviation of the values measured in the BPS is similar to the value of the measured pressure from people with normal blood pressure. Thus, the development BPS showed a possibility of taking into account the actual blood pressure measurement environment simulator.

일부 성인의 체질량지수에 따른 에너지섭취와 혈압 및 혈청 지질에 관한 비교 연구 (Comparative Study of Energy Intakes, Blood Pressure, and Serum Lipids by Body Mass Index in Korean Adults)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the nutrient intakes, blood pressure, and blood lipids in Korean adults according to BMI. Subjects were recruited and divided into three groups according to BMI, which included normal group (18.5$\leq$BMI<23), overweight group (23$\leq$BMI<25), obese group (25$\leq$BMI). The average age, height, weight, BMI of the subjects were 53.1years, 159.2cm, 54.5kg, 21.4kg/$m^2$ for normal group, 52.3years, 159.4cm, 61.4kg, 24.1kg/$m^2$ for overweight group, 55.9years, 158.7cm, 68.5kg, 27.2kg/$m^2$ for obese group, respectively. There were not significant differences in energy and food intakes by BMI groups. The blood pressure, serum cholesterol, serum triglyceride, serum LDL-cholesterol, and AI were significantly increased and serum HDL-cholesterol decreased with increment of BMI. The age and BMI were significantly positively correlated with blood pressure and serum lipids except HDL-cholesterol. There was significantly negative correlation between percentage of protein energy intake and AI. To summarize these results, energy, nutrient, and food intakes were not significantly correlated with BMI, and blood pressure and blood lipids increased with increment of BMI. Further systematic study of relation among nutrient intakes including various life factors, BMI, blood pressure, and blood lipid profile is needed.

혈압 판별 분석 -위험요인을 중심으로- (The Discriminant Analysis of Blood Pressure - Including the Risk Factors -)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of variables which were known to be related to blood pressure for discriminating between hypertensive and normotensive groups. Variables were obesity, serum lipids, life style-related variables such as smoking, alcohol, exercise, and stress, and demographic variables such as age, economical status, and education. The data were collected from 400 male clients who visited one university hospital located in Incheon, Republic of Korea, from May 1996 to December 1996 for a regular physical examination. Variables which showed significance for discriminating systolic blood pressure in this study were age, serum lipids, education, HDL, exercise, total cholesterol, body fat percent, alcohol, stress, and smoking(in order of significance). By using the combination of these variables, the possibility of proper prediction for a high-systolic pressure group was 2%, predicting a normal-systolic pressure group was 70.3%, and total Hit Ratio was 70%. Variables which showed significance for discriminating diastolic blood pressure were exercise, triglyceride, alcohol, smoking, economical status, age, and BMI (in order of significance). By using the combination of these variables, the possibility of proper prediction for a high-diastolic pressure group was 71.2%, predicting a normal-diastolic pressure group was 71.3%, and total Hit Ratio was 71.3%. Multiple regression analysis was performed to examine the association of systolic blood pressure with life style-related variables after adjustment for obesity, serum lipids, and demographic variables. First, the effect of demographic variable alone on the systolic blood pressure was statistically significant (p=.000) and adjusted $R^2$was 0.09. Adding the variable obesity on demographic variables resulted in raising adjusted $R^2$to 0.11 (p=.000) : therefore, the contribution rate of obesity on the systolic blood pressure was 2.0%. On the next step, adding the variable serum lipids on the obesity and demographic variables resulted in raising adjusted R2 to 0.12(P=.000) : therefore, the contribution rate of serum lipid on the systolic pressure was 1.0%. Finally, adding life style-related variables on all other variables resulted in raising the adjusted $R^2$to 0.18(p=.000) ; therefore, the contribution rate of life style-related variables on the systolic blood pressure after adjustment for obesity, serum lipids, and demographic variables was 6.0%. Multiple regression analysis was also performed to examine the association of diastolic blood pressure with life style-related variables after adjustment for obesity, serum lipids, and demographic variables. First, the effect of demographic variable alone on the diastolic blood pressure was statistically significant (p=.01) and adjusted $R^2$was 0.03. 표준전자식 혈압계와 수은혈압계, 전자혈압계의 비교 선행연구 (Comparison of Sphygmomanometer, Fully Automatic Electronic Blood Pressure Meters with Standard Digital Blood Pressure Monitor : Pilot Study)

  • Devices to measure the blood pressure of patients are being used without any calibration in a hospital. It is an important to show consistent values when any medical devices measure the same patients regardless they are sphygmomanometer or fully automatic electronic blood pressure meter. We compared sphygmomanometer and fully automatic electronic blood pressure meters with standard digital blood pressure monitor (SDBPM) to evaluate the consistency of the small healthy subjects. We measured the blood pressure from six healthy subjects (three of 20~40 years and three of 40~60 years old). Two sphygmomanometer and two fully automatic electronic blood pressure meters were used and compared with the SDBPM. Blood pressures measured from right and left arms each and were compared. All six healthy subjects showed normal blood pressure values. In general, left blood pressure values showed higher values than right side. Comparing SDBPM, with the other monitors, the systolic pressure showed ${\pm}$ 34.8% difference and ${\pm}$ 33.3% for the diastolic pressure. Correlation between SDBPM and Sphygmomanometer was 0.59~0.71, and 0.50~0.70 for fully automated digital BP monitors. It fell in grade-D when we apply the BHS(British hypertension society). AAMI(American association for the advancement of medical instrumentation) also showed unsatisfactory results for the mean value (${\leq}$ 5 mmHg) and standard deviation (${\leq}$ 8 mmHg). We tested sphygmomanometer and fully automatic electronic blood pressure meters and compared with a standard digital blood pressure monitor. All devices showed inconsistent blood pressures. A reliable calibration system is highly needed for all devices in all hospitals.

한국산 녹차가 가축의 혈압 및 심박수에 미치는 영향 (Effects on blood pressure and heart rate in normal cats by administration of Korean native green tea)

  • This study was undertaken to investigate changes in blood pressure and heart rate in normal cats by administration of Korean native green tea. The chemical components of Korean native green tea which determined are water(2.2%), water extract(32.7%), vitamin C(480%), caffeine(2.6%), tannin(32.7%) and amino acid of water soluble content 5.8%. Effect on blood pressure in administration 100mg/kg, 300mg/kg, 500mg/kg of extract of green tea, the mean depressor response is 44.8$\pm$3.3mmHg, 60.5$\pm$3.6mmHg, and 65.0$\pm$3.3mmHg in normal cats. Effect on heart rate in administration 100mg/kg, 300mg/kg of extract of Korean native green tea, the mean decreased heart rate is 2.8$\pm$4.5 beats/min, 15.2$\pm$6.4beats/min and 19.1$\pm$4.0 beats/min.

The correlation of blood pressure with height and weight in Korean adolescents aged 10-19 years; The Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (2009-2011)

  • Purpose: Height-specific blood pressure (BP) is the standard parameter used to diagnose childhood hypertension. However, there has been some argument that weight may be a better variable than height in the reference BP standards. Therefore, before assessing the BP status using the reference BP standards, a basic understanding of the fundamental association of weight and height with BP is required. Methods: In the present study, we analyzed the correlation of BP with height and weight in Korean adolescents (age, 10-19 years), using data from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (2009-2011). Results: Systolic BP (SBP) was more closely correlated with weight than with height in the normal weight (body mass index [BMI], ${\leq}85th$ percentile) and overweight (BMI, >85th percentile) groups and in the normal waist circumference (WC, ${\leq}90th$ percentile) and high WC (>90th percentile) groups in both sexes. Diastolic BP (DBP) had a higher correlation with height than with weight in the normal weight and normal WC groups, whereas weight was more closely associated with DBP than height in the overweight and high WC groups in both boys and girls. Conclusion: In Korean adolescents, weight had a greater effect on SBP than height in both the normal weight and overweight groups. DBP was mainly affected by height in the normal weight group, whereas weight was the major determinant of DBP in the overweight group. Therefore, it may be necessary to consider weight in the establishment of reference BP standards.

오가피(五加皮) EtOH Extract의 장기투여여(長期投與與)가 가토(家兎)의 혈청중총(血淸中總) Cholesterol치(値)에 미치는 영향(影響) (The Effects of Long-Term Administration of Acanthopanax EtOH Extract on the Serum Total Cholesterol Content in Normal and Cholesterol-Administered Rabbits)

  • Effects of Acanthopanax EtOH Extract (AEE) on the serum total cholesterol content of normal and cholesterol administered rabbits were investigated as a series of studies on pharmacological action, especially blood pressure to Korean Acanthopanax. AEE was administered orally(100mg/kg/day) and subcutaneously (30mg/kg/day) in both normal and cholesterol administered rabbits for 36 days. In this experiment the results obtained by comparing with values of the corresponding control group were as follows; 1) In the normal rabbits, long-term administration of AEE for 36 days did not entirely influence the serum total cholesterol content measured at 12th, 24th and 36th day and also not affect the original blood pressure and changes of blood pressure to norepinephrine, angiotensin and acetylcholine recorded at 36th day. 2) In the cholesterol administered rabbits, hypercholesteremia was induced by oral administration of cholesterol(300mg/kg/day) with feed. The rise rate of serum total cholesterol content was not modified at 12th day, whereas significantly inhibited at 24th and 36th days after begining this examination in both groups orally and subcutaneously administered AEE. Original blood pressure was declined and depressor action of acetylcholine was weakened in only group admininstered orally AEE of cholesterol-fed groups. Changes of blood pressure to norepinephrine and angiotensin in these all cholesterol-fed groups, and to acetylcholine in subcutaneous group of these cholesterol-fed groups were not affected significantly by AEE.
