  • The combined approach of using ego-centric network analysis and dynamic citation network analysis for refining the result of LDA-based topic modeling was suggested and examined in this study. Tow datasets were constructed by collecting Web of Science bibliographic records of White LED and topic modeling was performed by setting a different number of topics on each dataset. The multi-assigned top keywords of each topic were re-assigned to one specific topic by applying an ego-centric network analysis algorithm. It was found that the topical cohesion of the result of topic modeling with the number of topic corresponding to the lowest value of perplexity to the dataset extracted by SPLC network analysis was the strongest with the best values of internal clustering evaluation indices. Furthermore, it demonstrates the possibility of developing the suggested approach as a method of multi-faceted research trend detection.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of OPAC displays of three children's libraries in Korea: Seoul Children's Library, Cheongju Miracle Library, and Yongsan Public Library. 'OPAC Display Guidelines( Draft)' Published by IFLA is used to examine the details of OPAC displays, and to suggest their improvement. Discussed are such topics as the features of basic and detailed search screens, the brief display of search results, the arrangement and full display of bibliographic records, and the use of terms and labels. All three libraries offer their users the same KOLAS' OPAC, only designed to serve general users rather than children, i.e., their primary user group. They show some weakness, and much improvement is urgently required to satisfy specifically the needs and information seeking behavior of children.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the possibility of using the WorldCat, an International Union Catalog operated by OCLC as a tool for analyzing the trend of knowledge distribution in libraries around the world. In this study, four subject keywords, that is, Korea, Korean, Japan, and Japanese, were used to search materials related to Korea and Japan, and four facets, including medium, genre, language, and user level, were used to categorize search results from the WorldCat. The result shows that information resources related to Korea held by libraries around the world are only a little more than a third of Japan-related information resources. Especially Korea-related information resources for juveniles are less in numbers and lack in diversity in languages, media and genres, when compared with Japan-related information resources. Also an examination of two bibliographic records demonstrates that viewpoints expressed in user contributed reviews might affect diffusion of knowledge on certain subjects in the Next Generation Library Catalog.

  • This paper presents a scientometric analysis of the growth of literature output in the field of Hepatitis covered in three bibliographic databases namely MEDLINE, CINAHL and IPA. The literature covered in three databases for the period 1984-2003 was considered. MEDLINE covered the maximum of 75750 records during the study period 1984 to 2003. This is followed by CINAHL and IPA databases. It is found that the annual growth rate of literature in a particular field of knowledge will not be uniform and in order to measure the rate of growth from year after year, the application of RGR is quite appropriate. The RGR has shown a decreasing trend, with a slight fluctuation of growth rate for the years 1985 and 1997. The output by colleges, universities, corporate sector and research institutions with reference to RGR and Dt has shown mixed results such as increasing trend, decreasing trend and fluctuation trend. Hepatitis research indicates a different picture when the RGR and Dt were calculated by year-wise both in terms of number of papers and number of pages.

  • A rhetorical segment in traditional abstract displaying a sign of particular function is frequently referred to as a move. One of the most common moves is the Background, Aim, Method, Results, and Conclusion (BAMRC). The objective of this paper is to investigate the move patterns of research article abstracts in the field of social sciences based on BAMRC moves. Using the Scopus bibliographic database, a total of 467 abstracts from 298 research journals in the field of social sciences were analyzed. The result showed a wide range of move patterns. The implication of the result of this study suggests the existing traditional abstracts in social sciences might not be sufficiently "informative" due to missing moves and due to various move orders. To this end, automatically mapping moves in traditional abstracts to sub-headings in structured abstracts can be a more challenging task, requiring additional procedures to resolve these types of compatibility issues. Future studies can compare this study's result to other fields or disciplines within social sciences in order to find a more precise nature of abstracts in the field of social sciences.

  • This study developed subject guides for modern Korean literature materials that National Library of Korea owns. These were developed through processes such as domestic and foreign case studies, research on user's awareness, and theoretical investigation of modern Korean literature and subject guides in order to reflect characteristics unique to modern Korean literature which existed under special historical conditions. The results of acquiring actual data are as follows. First, this study acquired bibliographic data on 23,731 cases of works and information about figures regarding 117 authors of modern Korean literature. Second, this study covered raw data generated by the corresponding authors from 1894 to 1945 and the derived data generated by other authors until now on the basis of that. Third, an attempt was made to cluster the relevant information through arrangement system by author, genre and time period. The above-mentioned study results are regarded to be significant because an attempt is made to systematize and structure modern Korean literature existing in a complicated condition to such an extent that it was not possible for even the relevant academic world to find exact statistical data on author at that time.

  • This study was to investigate the concept of ISNI and to find its availability in authority control, realizing importance of ISNI as the bridge identifier including all the information media content industries. ISNI is needed for global and comprehensive name authority control as the bridge identifier for the identification of public identities of parties involved throughout the information media content industries in the creation, production, management and content distribution chains. First of all, it was to inquire ISNI concept, goal, terms and definitions, structure and syntax, allocation of ISNI, administration of the ISNI system, and metadata. Next, it was to suggest the applicability of ISNI in authority control. First, it should be needed to consider in applying ISNI for cooperative authority control. It is possible to interactively use the authority data created in library and other information industries area by constructing KISNI system. Second, it is possible to construct linked data by linking various identifier through ISNI identifier as bridge identifier. Third, it is needed to develop KORMARC for describing ISNI identifier in KORMARC bibliographic and authority record.

  • Objective : Jangjinyopyeon(藏珍要編, JJYP) was published in 1894. The purpose of the research is to know the character of JJYP, and to know JJYP inherited the tradition of Chosun(朝鮮) acupuncture which put emphasis on diagnosis and cure of Jangbu(臟腑) through meridian system. Method : First, identify the bibliographic information of the Mimeograph version of Original JJYP. After then, count and classify the provision by selected acupoints. Analyzed the result in succession. Conclusion : From the research of the mimeograph version of Original JJYP, come to following conclusion. 1. The pen name of author is Songgye(松溪), which means the region of his origin. 2. JJYP used 49 acupoints in total. It covers all regular meridian system except the regular Meridian of Hand Soeum[手少陰心經] for heart organ would never be injured in Neijing(內經) 3. JJYP suggested Eight Confluent points[八脈交會穴] as major acupoints in the end of book. But actually they were selected as the acupoints of belonging Jangbu(臟腑) and various symtoms. 4. Oegwan(外關) and Sameumgyo(三陰交) were maximum frequency in selecting of all acupoints, which means JJYP value controling and covering whole body. 5. Generally, Reinforcing and reducing manipulations concentrated one way, but Hugye(後谿) used each manipulation equally, which means JJYP regards tonification or purgation highly in Hugye(後谿). 6. Most acupoints of high frequency were Nak-point[絡穴], Won-point[原穴], Hap-point[合穴], which supposed to be directly connected to Jangbu(臟腑). So, we can see JJYP continue the tradition of Chosun acupuncture which put emphasis on Jang image[藏象] of meridian.
