Objectives The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) is one of the most widely used self-report measures of depression in both research and clinical practice. The Beck Depression Inventory Second Edition (BDI-II) is the most recent version of the BDI. Validity of the BDI-II has been documented in other countries. This study examined the factor structure of the Korean version of BDI-II in a large sample of university students. Method Data were obtained from 2,529 students of Kongju National University. The factor structures of the Korean version of BDI-II were assessed using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Results A high level of internal consistency and reliability (Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ = 0.91) and item homogeneity was confirmed. Exploratory factor analysis showed a two-factor structure (cognitive and somatic-affective), which was almost identical to the original model demonstrated by Beck et al. The following confirmatory factor analysis also supported the two-factor structure (cognitive and somatic-affective) is a better fit than the other two-factor structure (cognitive-affective and somatic). The higher mean score for women compared to men is consistent with the results of previous reports. Conclusion These data support the reliability and concurrent validity of the Korean version of BDI-II as a measure of depressive symptoms in nonclinical samples.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to show that patients taking antidepressants significantly respond to Korean medical treatments and M&L psychotherapy. Methods: We treated two patients with Korean medical treatments (acupuncture, moxibustion and Herbal Medicine) and psychotherapy including M&L psychotherapy and Li-Gyeung-Byun-Qi therapy. The patients were diagnosed based on DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for MDD. Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck's Anxiety Inventory (BAI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were used to evaluate the patients. Results: The following observations were made after treatments: Case 1: the patient showed significant improvement in Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck's Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Case 2: the patient showed significant improvement in Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Conclusions: These results suggest that Korean medical treatments and M&L psychotherapy might be effective for treating patients suffering from MDD.
Objective : Mismatch negativity (MMN) is known to reflect several abnormalities of cognitive functioning. This study is aimed to investigate the differences in MMN among major depressive disorder (MDD) patients with or without suicidal ideation. Methods : Sixty-seven patients with MDD were recruited into this study. MMN was measured by a 64-channel electroencephalography (EEG) using oddball paradigm over the front-central area. Clinical characteristics were assessed using the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), and the Beck Scale for Suicide ideation (SSI-BECK). Patients were divided into two groups, no suicidal ideation (N=12) and suicidal ideation (N=55), depending on the presence of suicide ideation in SSI-BECK questionnaires. Results : The MMN latencies were significantly longer in the MDD patients with suicidal ideation than in the MDD patents without suicidal ideation (p<0.05). The MMN amplitudes were not significantly different between the two groups. Conclusion : Suicidal ideation may be associated with longer MMN latencies, and it suggests that MMN may play a potential role in assessing the suicidal risk among MDD patients.

An analysis is presented on the stability of an elastic cantilever column subjected to a concentrated follower force as to the influence of the elastic restraint and a tip mass at the free end. The elastic restraint is formed by the rotatory springs. For this purpose, the governing equations and boundary conditions are derived by using Hamilton's principle, and the critical flutter loads and frequencies are obtained from the numerical evaluation of the eigenvalue functions of the considered system.

For a shear-deformable beam-column element subjected to non-conservative forces. equations of motion and a finite element formulation are presented applying extended Hamilton's principle. The influence of non-conservative force's direction parameter. internal and external damping forces, and shear deformation and rotary inertia effects on divergence and flutter loads of Beck's columns are intensively investigated based on element stiffness. damping and mass matrixes derived for the non-conservative system.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was 1. To investigate correlation of subjective stress with patient's prognosis 2. To observe the effect of Kami-shoyo-san on anxiety and depressive disorder. Methods: We investigated 3 cases of in-patients from traffic accidents. Patients were treated with Kami-shoyo-san. The Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) were used to assess anxiety and depression, respectively. We also used Qi stagnation test and Qi counterflow test according to Terasawa's criteria for diagnosis of anxiety and depression. Pain was evaluated by Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Results: After treatment, the patient's symptoms improved considerably. Conclusions: 1. There were significant correlations between subjective stress and prognosis. 2. Kami-shoyo-san has good effect on anxiety and depressive disorder.
Objective: The purposes of this study were to investigate anxiety and depression that can mediate stress and elicit a response from the women with urinary incontinence and compare the anxiety and depression level before and after treatment of extracoporeal magnetic innervation. Method: Fifty-five women with urinary incontinence were included from a obstetrics and gynecology cilnic. Beck Anxiety Inventory(BAI), Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI) were administered before and after treatment of extracoporeal magnetic innervation. Results: The women with urinary incontinence had higher levels of anxiety and depression. Anxiety and depression were reduced after treatment of extracoporeal magnetic innervation regardless of improvement incontinence. Conclusion: Therapies including extracoporeal magnetic innervation may be intrumental in improving anxiety and depression, If the patient do not show improvements of anxiety and depression after treatment for their urologic disorder or if the therapy is unsuccessful, appropriate referral is indicated.

This research is to identify the effects of Hopelessness, as a single latter among intermediary factors causing depression, on the Internet addiction of teenagers. This research measured the teenager students' state of hopelessness using Hopelessness Depression Symptom Questionnaire (HDSQ), which demonstrates the extent of hopelessness depression symptom, and Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS), which exhibits Beck's hopelessness scale, after conducting the analyses on the reliability of those questionnaires, and question factors. Correlations between the group in hopelessness state and the user group via the Internet Addiction Self-Test (K-scale) was comparatively analyzed. The study result reveals that reliability and validity of the questionnaire were high. As a result of the comparative analysis between the hopelessness state group and the Internet addicted user group through sub-factors of the questions, all the sub-factors showed statistically significant differences. In particular, the average score of the high risk Internet addicted user group was highest in both HDSQ and BHS. Consequently, these results imply that hopelessness affects the Internet addicted users.
The purpose of this study is to document the stress symptoms (Anxiety and depression) among dental students and the difference of stress level between classes and by gender. All students in dental college, Seoul National University, in the 1995 academic year, were tested with the Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and Beck Depression Inventory just before the first semestral examination when the stress levels of students are expected to be the highest. 303 students answered the test. The obtained results were as follows : 1. State Anxiety inventory scores of the second-year and first-year students were significantly higher than those of the fourth -year and third-year(p(0.01), and all classes showed mean state anxiety scores more than mild. 2. Trait Anxiety inventory scores of the second-year and first-year students were significantly higher than those of the third-year and forth-year(p(0.01), and all classes showed mean Trait Anxiety scores more than mild. 3. Beck Depression inventory scores of the second -year students were significantly higher than those of the third-year and fourth-year(p(0.01), and twenty two students(7.3%) among the fourth classes showed depression symptoms. 4. In the comparison of the mean scores of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and Beck Depression Inventory between male and female students, State Anxiety Inventory scores of the second-year female students were significantly higher than those of the second year male students(p(0.05), and there was no significant difference elsewhere.
