In this study, we analyzed the real time video image obtained from the video monitoring system to grasp the shoreline, beach width, and area change of Haeundae beach. The video monitoring techniques enabled continuous monitoring for a long period at a much lower cost than general survey methods. It was possible to grasp quantitative beach variation characteristics of Haeundae beach through image acquisition, rectification, and image processing of video images. According to the monitoring results, the erosion rate of Haeundae beach in spring and summer was -19.8% in 2014 and -6.7% in 2015. The erosion rate in 2016 was -6.4%, which showed that the erosion rate in spring and summer continued to decrease. In particular, the influence of the erosion at the time of typhoon CHABA was revealed to be smaller than in the past. It can be concluded that these variations were due to beach width expansion by beach nourishment and the installation of submerged breakwaters.

The changes of sea bottom configuration, which may cause the coastal disasters, have been considered as social problems. It is obvious that the beach deformation is attributable to the sediment transport associated with erosion and acceration. The prediction method and countermeasures for them, however, are not on the level of satisfaction, which indicates that efforts should be made on developing them. In this study, it is found at the groin constructed in Sangju beach on e purpose of beach protection did the aversive function. The reason for this was judged that they accelerated the speed of erosion by increasing the velocity wave-induced current rather than brought storage effect of sediment. Authors found that the storage sediment estimation model by Sonu and Beek(1971) is a useful model at the Sangju beach with the use of topographical survey data from July, 1987 to March, 2003.
This study was carried out to survey for morphological change of lower tidal flat near Byunsan-Gosapo beach using single-beam echosounder and sound velocity profiler. Since October 2009 in the center of the region, the erosion occurred about 10~50cm, while either side of the study area is little change. Erosion occurred at the beach, each beach area in the southwest area rather than further accumulation occurred sandbank formed. Observed in the study area near the center of the erosion is the result of ongoing changes that were temporarily due to seasonal changes is not clear. However, the northwestward waves were expected to be a major source of erosion. Because of this, continue to observe the terrain and the local ocean circulation studies will be required.
A terrestrial LiDAR was used to acquire precise and high-resolution topographical information of Malipo beach, Korea. Terrestrial LiDAR and RTK-DGPS (VRS) were mounted on top of a survey vehicle and used to scan 20 times stop-and-go method with 250 m spacing intervals at ebb tides. In total, 7 measurements were made periodically from 2008 to 2009 and after each beach replenishment event. We carried out GIS-based 3D spatial analysis such as slope and volume calculations in order to assess topographical changes over time. In relation to beach replenishment, comparative analysis of each volume change revealed them to be similar. This result indicates that the terrestrial LiDAR measurements are accurate and can be used to analyze temporal topographical changes. In conclusion, the methodology employed in this study can be used efficiently to exercise coastal management through monitoring and analyzing beach process such as erosion and deposition.
The construction of large scale harbor structures at Maengbang beach, which is located on the eastern coast of Korea, is of great concern because it may cause disastrous beach erosion in the vicinity. Therefore, a hydraulic model experiment was conducted to examine the morphological changes after such construction. The water depth was scaled using the method of Van Rijn (2010), which is a well-known scale law, but the results appeared to be overestimated. The present study developed a new scale law that applies an equilibrium beach profile formula to scale the model evolution to the prototype scale. When compared with survey data observed at Maengbang beach, the proposed method showed better agreement than the method of Van Rijn (2010).

This study introduces an analysis of the quantitative characteristics of topography and topographical changes based on precise 3D topography through 6 times surveys from December 2008 to January 2010 using Terrestrial LIDAR on the Malipo beach. The Malipo sand beach is mostly located between 0m to 1.5m MSL. The area of the beach above 2.25m, the Mean High Water, is very small. It have characteristics of topographical change of erosion and deposition along the entire coast line which more apparently appear in the northern beach than the southern part of the beach. Erosion prevails from spring to autumn, while during winter both erosion and deposition largely occur. Volumes from first and last survey were almost equal.

To evaluate the causes of beach erosion in Sinji-Myeongsasimni Beach, external forces, such as tides, tidal currents, and waves, were observed seasonally from March 2019 to March 2020, and the surface sediments were analyzed for this period. In addition, the shoreline positions and beach elevations were regularly surveyed with a VRS GPS and fixed-wing drone. From these field data, the speed of the tidal currents was noted to be insufficient, but the waves were observed to af ect the deformation of the beach. As the beach is open to the southern direction, waves of heights over 1 m were received in the S-SE direction during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. Large waves with heights over 2 m were observed during typhoons in summer and fall. Because of the absence of typhoons for the previous two years from July 2018, the beach area over datum level (DL) as of July 2018 was greater by 30,138m2 compared with that of March 2019, and the beach area as of March 2020 decreased by 61,210m2 compared with that of March 2019 because of four typhoon attacks after July 2018. The beach volume as of March 2019 decreased by 5.4% compared with that of July 2018 owing to two typhoons, and the beach volume as of September 2019 decreased by 7.3% because of two typhoons during the observation year. However, the volume recovered slightly by about 3% during fall and winter, when there were no high waves. According to the sediment transport vectors by GSTA, the sediments were weakly influxed from small streams located at the center of the beach; the movement vectors were not noticeable at the west beach site, but the westward sediment transport under the water and seaward vectors from the foreshore beach were prominently observed at the east beach site. These patterns of westward sediment vectors could be explained by the angle between the annual mean incident wave direction and beach opening direction. This angle was inclined 24° counterclockwise with the west-east direction. Therefore, the westward wave-induced currents developed strongly during the large-wave seasons. Hence, the sand content is high in the west-side beach but the east-side beach has been eroded seriously, where the pebbles are exposed and sand dune has decreased because of the lack of sand sources except for the soiled dunes. Therefore, it is proposed that efforts for creating new sediment sources, such as beach nourishment and reducing wave heights via submerged breakwaters, be undertaken for the eastside of the beach.

In the present study, a beach survey such as sand sizes, swim zone widths, and slopes of swash zone has been accomplished for 39 beaches along the Gangwon coastline. The data analysis presents that the swim zone width has a strong correlation with the sand size, showing that the swim zone width is reversely proportional to the 1.1 power of a grain size. The profile factor A has been analyzed using the beach profile form of $h=Ay^{2/3}$, where A was resulted to be proportional to the 0.77 power of a gram size.

After Typhoon Chaba (No.18, 2016) collided with Manseongri Beach, a coastal improvement project was carried out since strong external forces such as waves, storm surges and wave-induced currents were observed to cause beach deformation. The shoreline, beach area and beach volume were periodically surveyed. On the basis of this field data, the beach deformation that occurred at Manseongri Beach has been formally described. Over three months after beach nourishment work began, the beaches were gradually stabilized in terms of natural external forces. However, this stabilization was interrupted by Typhoon Chaba. After two months of typhoon weather, the beach returned to a stable state and no changes were observed until one year after the beach recovery work. Just after the typhoon hit, the shoreline receded from the northern side, where no reduction of external forces occurred, while the rear beach area submerged by breakwater advanced. Also, the beach volume decreased by $3,395m^3$ after the typhoon, due to erosion that occurred on the northern beach, with deposition taking place on the southern backshore area. Therefore, it has been concluded that the coastal improvement project undertaken at Manseongri Beach has significantly contributed to conservation in areas of wave-dominant sediment transport.

As Daecheon beach, which is the study area, has problem of erosion and loss of most beach under the extraordinary wave during the typhoon event, it is necessary to apply erosion control measures for short term impact. Therefore, we analyzed the status and reason of the erosion by field survey, collection of hydraulic model test, and numerical model experiment. For the erosion control measure, we adopted beach feeding and submerged reef method available at that site among various counter measures. Numerical analyses were made for both beach feeding only and beach feeding with submerged reefs and these were compared with the present status to find out the optimum design and to contribute for preparing a long term plan of beach loss protection.
