지방 공과대학 공학기초교육 강화방안 연구 (A Study on Enhancement of Basic Engineering Education for Local Engineering College)

  • Recently, the number of applicants for the engineering college is gradually decreased all over the nation. Additionally, the concerns of fall of freshman scholastic ability are raised due to the incomplete high school education. Moreover, the inferior circumstance and supports drive local universities into a corner. Therefore, the local universities endeavor in order to improve the quality of basic engineering education, and study the countermeasure against the crisis. In this paper, we derive several ideas in order to enhance the basic engineering education qualities. And the enhancement plans for the basic engineering education are proposed. Results in this paper will be helpful for engineering college to enhance the basic engineering education as reference materials.

전문대학 공학계열 학생의 기초학습능력 수준에 따른 학업성취도 결과 사례연구: I 전문대학 사례를 중심으로 (A Case Study of the Scholastic Achievement Grades Results for Junior College Students of Engineering Department according to the Basic Academic Skills: Based on the Case Study of I Junior College)

  • The influences of the basic academic skills to the scholastic achievement grades has been researched and we made a test of the basic academic skills(Korean language, mathematic, foreign language) to the students of engineering department in I college in Seoul and analyzed the correlation between the basic academic skills and the scholastic achievement grades. Results show that the scholastic achievement grades has a correlation(r=.456, p<0.01) to the average grade of the basic academic skill test. High level students of the scholastic achievement grades have a correlation(r=.292, p<0.01) to the mathematical department and the others have a correlation(r=.232, p<0.05 and r=.279, p<0.01) to the Korean linguistic department. The results of this study through multiple regression analysis indicate that the scholastic achievement has a relation on Korean language skill. As a result, It is recommendable that the mathematical basic academic skill programs are suggested to the high-level students of the scholastic achievement grades and the linguistic basic academic skill programs to the others. Also, the required basic linguistic subject is needed to the low-level students of the basic academic skills and in this paper, we propose the test and management system for the basic campus-life skills including the basic academic skills and the basic major skills.

이공계 Technical Writing 기본과정 내용에 대한 고찰 (A Study on the Contents of a Basic Technical Writing Course for Engineering Students)

  • This paper emphasizes writing education for engineering students should be communication driven writing education based on KEC2005. Communication driven writing for engineering students is essentially same as Technical Writing(TW) developed on the basis of ABET. Considering the current writing capability of engineering students and social need for various types of writing, TW education should be divided into two courses: basic and advanced. This paper deals with contents of a basic TW course in Myongji University, as a model case of a basic TW course for engineering students. It underlines various methods of prewriting that should be stressed and practiced in the TW class, because the prewriting step in the writing process determines the overall direction and structure of an essay. In particular, this paper introduces Power Writing(PW) which uses the structure of a paragraph as a means for providing building-blocks for the essay, employing logic, and ordering information arrangement in a paragraph. This paper also deals with important guidelines about sentence structure and word selection and proposes various applications of TW such as resume, interview, proposal, report, and presentation as a latter part of the basic course. Finally this paper highlights the etics of writing, such as plagiarism and the basic principles of quotation.

학습역량 저하 공과대학 신입생을 위한 기초역량 증진 복습교과목 개발 및 효과성 분석 (Development and Effectiveness Analysis of a Review Course to Enhance Basic Competencies for Freshmen with Reduced Learning Ability in the College of Engineering)

  • In order to enhance basic competencies for freshmen at engineering college, whose learning ability is gradually declining, a new course was developed to review basic mathematics and physics through a process of collecting opinions from fellow professors. Tests in six fields of math and physics with the same problems showed the correct answer rate rose from 24.8% at the beginning of the semester to 59.0% at the end of the semester after operating the course developed. According to the survey, the students' self-evaluated confidence on the basic competencies in 16 fields of math and physics showed a significant increase. Students with high confidence in basic competencies also received high actual grades. General high school graduates' confidence point in basic competencies improved from 54.7 at the beginning to 75.3 points at the end of the semester, while specialized high school graduates' enhanced from 38.3 to 64.0 which is higher than that of general high school graduates at the beginning of the semester.

학생 설문을 통한 기초설계 교육효과 평가 (Estimation of the Effectiveness of Basic Engineering Design Education Through Student Survey)

  • 공학교육인증제도 아래 기초설계-요소설계-종합설계의 3단계의 교육체계로 시행되고 있는 공학설계교육 중, 기초설계에 서는 설계 개념, 절차의 공학 입문자에의 소개와 동시에 종합설계에 연결하여 효과적으로 사용되도록 수학적인 상세 설계보다는 창의성이 발휘된 설계안을 창안, 평가하는데 중점을 두고 이를 팀 활동을 통해 연습시킨다. 본 연구에서는 기초설계를 수강하고 종합설계를 수행하고 있는 기계 분야 학생들의 의견을 설문을 통해 수집하여 효과적인 기초설계 교육이 이루어지고 있는지 알아보았다. 전반적으로 학생들이 기초설계 교육의 중요성을 높게 인식하며 유용도도 높다고 인식하고 있으며, 교과 내용별 중요도 및 유용도, 교육기반 및 환경, 종합설계와의 연계 필요성 등 기타 평가사항들이 앞서 있었던 기계 분야 교수들에 대한 설문 결과와도 상당히 일치하고 있다. 학생들과 교수들의 인식이 잘 공감되고 있으며 실제 종합설계시 팀 활동과 아이디어 창안 등이 잘 활용되고 있는 것으로 미루어 기초설계 교육이 효과적으로 이루어지고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 다만, 유용도가 중요도에 비해 약간 낮게 인식되는 점은 실습 과제를 흥미롭고 현실적인 것으로의 지속적 향상, 종합설계 초기에 기초설계 습득 내용이 응용되도록 유도하는 등의 유용도를 더 높이기 위한 방안과 노력이 필요하다는 것을 보여준다.
