The fraction concept consists of various meanings and is one of the more abstract and difficult in elementary school mathematics. This study intends to analyze the fraction concept from historical and psychological viewpoints, to examine the current elementary mathematics textbooks by these viewpoints and to seek the direction for improvement of it. Basic ideas about fraction are the partitioning - the dividing of a quantity into subparts of equal size - and about the part-whole relation. So these ideas are heavily emphasized in current textbooks. However, from the learner's point of view, situations related to different meanings of fraction concept draw qualitatively different response from students. So all the other meanings of fraction concept should be systematically represented in elementary mathematics textbooks. Especially based on historico-genetic principle, the current textbooks need the emphasis on the fraction as a measure and on constructing fraction concept by unit fraction as a unit.

This study is intended to identify the difference in social skills among adolescent students, by grade gender, rights practice, and self-awareness. It will raise awareness of the importance of the rights of adolescents and provide basic data of guaranteed rights for adolescents and social skills. Using questionnaires, a 569 adolescents, in four middle and high schools in Seoul and the Capital Area, were analyzed. The study results were as follows: first, females showed higher empathy skills than males did in social skills. In the case of male adolescents, self-control skills among social skills, was higher than those of females. Second, practice for rights and self-concept had positive influences on social skills. The higher the practice for rights, the higher cooperation, assertiveness, empathy, and self-control the adolescents had. The more positive self-concept of physical appearance, gymnastic ability, friends, and honesty, trust and value, indicated a higher assertiveness. The result implied that the adolescents' practice for their rights, self-concept, and social skills were highly correlated with one another, and adequate practice for their rights and positive self-concept had influences on their social skills. Based on the results, in order for adolescents with a low level of social skills to have a satisfactory social life, they should be encouraged to practice their own rights in the right direction and to acquire positive self-concept in the future.

Slope is an important mathematical concept that is connected to advanced mathematics as well as a basic concept as an indicator of the steepness of a straight line. The purpose of this study is to see how the concept of slope is presented in mathematics textbooks of middle school. For this study, we analyzed the types of slope concepts in the textbooks. In particular, we analyzed motivation activity, definition, examples of slope in them and used a concept framework of slope by Stump(1999, 2001), Moore-Russo, Connor & Rugg (2011). As a result, it was shown that middle school mathematics textbooks use the types of slope concepts to be biased when explaining the slope or presenting the slope problems. In addition, the real contexts of slope is poorly presented, and the concept types change from visual aspect to analytical aspect in the processes. This study provides suggestions on how to present the slope concepts in mathematics curriculum and middle school textbooks.

Purpose: This basic research tries to provide planning concept of elderly housing which can cope with the needs of the aged society. Methods: This study has been conducted mainly by literature investigation research. Previous researches include Universal and Barrier-Free Design, Elderly Housing Standards, Elderly Welfare Act and other related acts, various papers related to elderly housing, and so on. To set up the Planning concept of elderly housing, elements or indices of previous studies have been comparatively analysed. Results: Elderly housing has been divided into individual type, group type and facility type according to the residents' health and operation system of the housing. This paper focuses on the individual type among three categories. Seven concepts of the elderly housing have been derived as the outcome of this research - Safety, Accessibility, Amenity, Distinguishment, Adaptability, Convenience, and Sociality. Implications: This concept will provide the planning direction on the construction and renovation for Elderly Housing in the future.

Effective mastering and learning of basic organic chemical concepts is pivotal to ensure students continue to excel to the higher levels of organic chemistry learning. Concept learning is crucial for first-year organic chemistry students so that they can comprehend and understand a concept better and able to make connection to problems. In the present paper, the authors have implemented the Interactive Anonymous Quiz (IAQ) with "must-have" features in the organic chemistry course as a teaching tool to instill students' interest and enhance conceptual understanding in organic chemistry. The effectiveness of this activity was examined and evaluated through students' reflective writing. Students showed positive learning outcome on the implemented activity as reflected by the reflective writings. In addition, this activity could be employed as an activity to check on students' concept understanding, to instill students' interest in organic chemistry course and to improve on students' weakest topic in organic chemistry in the future classes.

New concept ramjet propulsion system with liquid bipropellant rocket using "Green Propellant" hydrogen peroxide for launch stage is proposed. In this novel concept, hydrogen peroxide gas generator produces hot oxygen at launch stage and kerosene injects to this jet in combustor. For basic study of this new concept ramjet system, investigation of auto-ignition characteristics and combustion of decomposed hydrogen peroxide and kerosene was conducted. In various test cases, auto-ignition and stable combustion was verified. The combustion temperature of 400°C and Fuel/Oxidizer mixture ratio of 0.6 were the limit of auto ignition. Through the experiment results, the possibility of novel concept combined propulsion system using hydrogen peroxide gas generator is ascertained.

It is important to understand the trajectory of structure in launching process because of the short time of launching process may result in unexpected accidents or damage to structures. The high risk of structural failure is not avoidable without the fully comprehension of changing forces in launching procedure. The commercial software can evaluate the motion of launching event in calm water condition but there is the limitation of research application because of the programmed commercial software. The launching process of the spar hull is suggested with stage concept that is divided into 10 stages in time domain. A force equilibrium diagram is derived for each stage where the changes of force vector and motion characteristics take place. In particular, the effects of changes in buoyancy and drag force due to the progressive submergence of the spar hull are taken into account by means of a touch length concept. The results contained in this paper provide the valuable information of the trajectory motion evaluation with suggested methods in spar launching process with sliding barge. Furthermore, the presented stage concept and touch length concept will provide basic knowledge for understanding launching process and help to develop further research area for launching analysis.

This study has developed the test tool to measure the level of spatial concept in the astronomy education for high school students. The items of the test tool are composed of basic elements (spatial position, spatial reasoning, spatial variation) forming spatial concepts in the astronomy. The test tool was applied to the 274 high school students. As a result of item analysis, the test tool showed that the content validity was 98%, the reliability (KR 20) was 0.84, the measure the level of astronomical spatial concept for the high school students.

Treatment of schizophrenia is one of the most challenging areas in the field of psychiatry. There has been much improvement in psycho-pharmacotherapy, and at present, psycho-pharmacotherapy along with milieu therapy and social rehabilitation is the standard first-line treatment for schizophrenia. Healing environment, a concept which has arisen from the architectural field, has similarities in meaning to milieu therapy in psychiatry. In other words, healing environment may be an encountering point between psychiatry and architecture. In this encountering, each field can understand each other and expand its concept to aid the treatment of schizophrenia and to plan the build-up of the entire environment considering its social and psychological effects. In this paper, we aim to establish the basic concept of healing environment to alleviate the psychopathologies in schizophrenic patients. We worked under the premise that physical setting affects human behavior and mind, and that physical setting should play a role as a medium with therapeutic potential for patients with medical problems. The aims of this paper are as follows. First, theoretical discussion of the concept and the constructs of healing environment : second, understanding of the schizophrenic symptoms that may be affected by supporting environment : and third, discussion of supporting environment that may alleviate the symptoms of schizophrenia.

A leisure culture in the modern society is the measure of a value in one's life and has a symbolic meaning which reflects the aspect of a society where an individual belongs to. Therefore, the leisure is not a simple pleasure but has an critical meaning of expressing the culture of a country. In particular, the theme park leads the public amusement in the modern society using the cutting-edge equipments on a large scale in the postmodernism society being lead by the public. Nonetheless, Korea imports the theme parks of the same type as the Disney land of the Western Europe so that Korea depends on the foreign country in the leisure field. Therefore, in this study, the basic property of the theme park is investigated and the issues of Korean theme park will be revealed through the comparison of Korean theme park to foreign theme parks. In order to solve these issues, it points out that the concept of Korean traditional leisure space has inclusive and upgraded characteristics with many meanings, compared with the concept of the leisure space of foreign countries. . Based on this, the new concept of Korean theme park's space will be proposed. Specially, it is empathized that Korean own originality and credit should be preserved and Korean traditions should be succeeded.
