  • The sound insulation capacity of a barrier is indicated by its transmission loss. In this study, the sound transmission loss of a sound barrier filled with rice-straw particles was measured by the transfer function method and a laboratory measurement method. The results of the two measurements were compared. The transmission losses measured by the two methods were similar above a frequency of 500 Hz. The loss increased greatly upon the introduction of a plywood to the sound barrier. The results of this study are expected to be used to design sound barriers for roads.

  • The need to increase the reliability of a structural system has been significantly brought in the procedure of real designs to consider, for instance, the material properties or geometric dimensions that reveal a random or incompletely known nature. Reliability based design optimization of a real system now becomes an emerging technique to achieve reliability, robustness and safety of these problems. Finite element analysis program and the reliability analysis program are necessary to evaluate the responses and the probabilities of failure of the system, respectively. Moreover, integration of these programs is required during the procedure of reliability based design optimization. It is well known that reliability based design optimization can often have so many local minima that it cannot converge to the specified probability of failure. To overcome this problem, barrier function method in reliability based design optimization is suggested. To illustrate the proposed formulation, reliability based design optimization of a bracket is performed. AMV and FORM are employed for reliability analysis and their optimization results are compared based on the accuracy and efficiency.

  • Objective : Skin barrier protects skin against harmful environment. Its function includes antimicrobial barrier as well as physical barrier. But there are few studies about skin barrier function about men and women who don't have skin disease. The aim of this study is to investigate skin barrier function healthy men and women show. Method : There are many ways to measure skin barrier function, but lately transepidermal water loss is mainly used to know skin barrier function. Transepidermal water loss was measured over eight four the Korean twenties and thirties who don't have skin disease from March 14th, 2007 to March 16th 2007. We surveyed cubital fossa and cheek beside nose to measure transepidermal water loss and used vapometer. Result : After analyzed data, we concluded that cheek showed higher transepidermal water loss than cuital fossa. At cheek, the thirties had higher transepidermal water loss than the twenties. The male got higher transepidermal water loss than the female at cheek and in the average. And temperature and humidity effected on transepidermal water loss. Conclusion: In our study, it was observed that temperature and humidity effected on transepidermal water loss. In traditional korean medicine, the inbalance of cold(寒), heat(熱), dryness(燥), wetness(濕) makes many diseases and the inbalance of them induces dameum(痰飮) and the disorder of blood flow. Dameum(痰飮) and the disorder of blood flow make skin diseases made by abnormal skin barrier function in many ways. So we need to study dameum(痰飮) and the disorder of blood flow to take care of patients who have abnormal skin barrier function.

  • Barrier ribs in the plasma display panel(PDP) function to maintain the discharge space between the glass plates as well as to prevent optical crosstalk. Patterning of barrier ribs is one of unique processes for making PDP. In this work photosensitive barrier rib pastes were prepared by incorporating binder polymer, solvent, functional monomers photoinitiator, and barrier rib powder of which surface was treated with fumed silica particles. Study on the function of materials for the barrier rib paste were undertaken. After optimization of paste formulation and photolithographic process, it was found that photolithographic patterning of barrier ribs with photosensitive barrier rib green sheet could be used in the fabrication of high resolution PDP.

  • The Primal-Dual Interior-Point (PDIP) method is currently one of the fastest emerging topics in optimization. This method has become an effective solution algorithm for large scale nonlinear optimization problems. such as the electric Optimal Power Flow (OPF) and natural gas and electricity OPF. This study describes major theoretical developments of the PDIP method as well as practical issues related to implementation of the method. A simple quadratic problem with linear equality and inequality constraints

  • In this study, several new types of floating breakwater are proposed according to the geometry of the vertical barrier and the existence of horizontal plate, and are compared to the steel floating breakwater adopted in Won-Jun fishing port and the performance of wave control is numerically investigated by using Green function method. From the numerical results, model attached the horizontal barrier under the vertical barrier is more efficient for reflection and transmission coefficient than the steel floating breakwater in Won-Jun fishing port. It is confirmed that the transmitted waves can be controlled efficiently by optimizing the length and distance of a vertical and horizontal barriers.

  • Objective : Skin barrier protects skin against harmful environment. Its function includes antimicrobial barrier as well as physical barrier. But there are few studies about the factors which improve skin barrier recovery after injury. The aim of this study is to investigate the factors which improve skin barrier recovery. Method : Nine hairless mice was anesthetized by inhalation and we tape stripped them. We used thermometer to know temperature one day ago, before anesthesia, before tape stripping, and after tape stripping. Vapometer was used to know transepidermal water loss before tape stripping, after tape stripping. And we used doppler flowmeter to measure blood flow before tape stripping, after tape stripping. Result : After analyzed data, we concluded that temperature was lower after anesthesia than before anesthesia and after tape stripping than before tape stripping. We could know that transepidermal water loss was lower after tape stripping than before tape stripping and more blood flowed after tape stripping. Conclusion : In our study, it was observed that temperature, transepidermal water loss, blood flow changed after tape stripping. But we thought lowered temperature was pathologic situation, more blood flow was to recover after injury. In traditional korean medicine, cold(寒) and imbalance of blood flow(血行) don't only make many skin diseases, but cold(寒) also obstructs blood flow. So we need to study how to warm cold(寒) and improve blood flow.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to provide the distribution of option price under local volatility model when market-provided implied volatility data are given. The local volatility model is one of the most widely used smile-consistent models. In local volatility model, the volatility is a deterministic function of the random stock price. Before estimating local volatility surface (LVS), we need to estimate implied volatility surfaces (IVS) from market data. To do this we use local polynomial smoothing method. Then we apply the Dupire formula to estimate the resulting LVS. However, the result is dependent on the bandwidth of kernel function employed in local polynomial smoothing method and to solve this problem, the proposed method in this paper makes use of model averaging approach by means of bandwidth priors, and then produces a robust local volatility surface estimation with a confidence interval. After constructing LVS, we price barrier option with the LVS estimation through Monte Carlo simulation. To show the merits of our proposed method, we have conducted experiments on simulated and market data which are relevant to KOSPI200 call equity linked warrants (ELWs.) We could show by these experiments that the results of the proposed method are quite reasonable and acceptable when compared to the previous works.

  • In this study, we propose a new logarithmic barrier approach to solve linear programming problem using the projective method of Karmarkar. We are interested in computation of the direction by Newton's method and of the step-size using minorant functions instead of line search methods in order to reduce the computation cost. Our new approach is even more beneficial than classical line search methods. We reinforce our purpose by many interesting numerical simulations proved the effectiveness of the algorithm developed in this work.
