Typical phytoplasma witches' broom symptoms were observed in black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) in Korea. The symptoms of the disease were showing abnormally small leaves, shortened intemodes and proliferation of shoots. The phytoplasmas were detected consistently in all the symptomatic samples by the amplification with phytoplasma universal primer pairs P1/P7 and R16F2n/R2, and the expected size was 1.8 kb and 1.2 kb. However, the phytoplasma DNA was not detected in healthy seedling. Based on sequence analysis of amplified region, this phytoplasma has close homologies with aster yellow, mulberry dwarf, maize bushy stunt, ash witches' broom and sumac witches' broom phytoplasmas, more than 99.2% but showed homologies with black locust witches' broom (GeneBank Accession No. AF 244363), and jujube witches' broom, 88.6% and 87.7%, respectively. This phylogetic analysis indicates that the black locust witches' broom phytoplasma founded in korea should be classified in the Candidatus phytoplasma asteris (16Sr I) group and clearly distinct from the black locust witches' broom group 16Sr III (peach X-disease phytoplasma group).
Background: Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng) is a well-known medicinal plant of Oriental medicine that is still in practice today. Until now, a total of 11 Korean ginseng cultivars with unique features to Korean ginseng have been developed based on the pure-line-selection method. Among them, a new cultivar namely G-1 with different agricultural traits related to yield and content of ginsenosides, was developed in 2012. Methods: The aim of this study was to distinguish the new ginseng cultivar G-1 by identifying the unique single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) at its 45S ribosomal DNA and Panax quinquefolius region than other Korean ginseng cultivars using multiplex amplification-refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction (ARMS-PCR). Results: A SNP at position of 45S ribosomal DNA region between G-1, P. quinquefolius, and the other Korean ginseng cultivars was identified. By designing modified allele-specific primers based on this site, we could specifically identified G-1 and P. quinquefolius via multiplex PCR. The unique primer for the SNP yielded an amplicon of size 449 bp in G-1 cultivar and P. quinquefolius. This study presents an effective method for the genetic identification of the G-1 cultivar and P. quinquefolius. Conclusion: The results from our study shows that this SNP-based approach to identify the G-1 cultivar will be a good way to distinguish accurately the G-1 cultivar and P. quinquefolius from other Korean ginseng cultivars using a SNP at 45S ribosomal DNA region.
This paper investigates factors determining the level of nontraditional activities at banks around the world. Specifically, the paper examines what kinds of firm-specific and country-specific characteristics determine the level of noninterest income using a comprehensive multi-country database. This paper focuses beyond the traditional U.S. based analyses and provides detailed asset-liability management practices of banks around the world. The findings suggest that banks' size and loan loss provision, explicit deposit insurance, banking restriction, banking freedom ranking of respective countries, the extent of state and foreign ownership, governance, and transparency of the country have positive effects on the level of nontraditional activities. Greater dependence on traditional lending and financing, market based economy, and multiple bank supervisory bodies in the country have negative associations with noninterest income. The economic development of country however affects the extent of the relationship.
This study examines empirically on relevance between bank performance and IC(Intellectual Capital) in the field of banking sector in Korea. IC is measured by VAIC(Value Added Intellectual Capital) and VAIC consists of HCE(Human Capital Efficiency Coefficient), CEE(Capital Employed Efficiency Coefficient) and SCE(Structural Capital Efficiency Coefficient). Main results are as follows. First, the effects of IC(Intellectual capital) on banks performance show significant (+) effect on the performance of banks. Second, Human capital and bank size shows the significant effect on the banks financial performance but SCE, CEE, and other variables didn't show it. As a concluding remark, IC(Intellectual capital) is very helpful for banks to go forward financially to get information and knowledges easily. This study help stakeholders and investors assess the value creating potential of banks and policy makers to implement policies for performance establishment of a Korean banking sector.
This paper proposes a GPGPU structure that can reduce the number of operations and memory access by effectively applying a data reuse method to a convolutional neural network(CNN). Convolution is a two-dimensional operation using kernel and input data, and the operation is performed by sliding the kernel. In this case, a reuse method using an internal register is proposed instead of loading kernel from a cache memory until the convolution operation is completed. The serial operation method was applied to the convolution to increase the effect of data reuse by using the principle of GPGPU in which instructions are executed by the SIMT method. In this paper, for register-based data reuse, the kernel was fixed at 4×4 and GPGPU was designed considering the warp size and register bank to effectively support it. To verify the performance of the designed GPGPU on the CNN, we implemented it as an FPGA and then ran LeNet and measured the performance on AlexNet by comparison using TensorFlow. As a result of the measurement, 1-iteration learning speed based on AlexNet is 0.468sec and the inference speed is 0.135sec.
This paper aims to derive macroeconomic implications by analyzing the business cycle characteristics of the youth unemployment. The results of empirical analysis seem to show that youth unemployment appears to be relatively less correlated with business cycle compared to other age groups, and thus it is difficult to explain the recent steady increase in the potential labor force as a result of the business cycle fluctuation alone. Moreover, the alternative unemployment measures of the youth group showing upward trend were estimated to be co-integrated with output measures. This co-integrated trend increase suggests that unlike other age groups, youth may be influenced by structural factors inherent in Korea's economic growth path. The fact that the wage difference based on firm size has widened steadily since the Asian financial crisis and that the proportion of large companies that provide relatively high-quality jobs compared to major industrialized countries is significantly lower may be the evidence of the structural changes in Korean youth labor market. The results of above analysis may explain why the job search periods for youth has lengthened amid these structural changes.
In this paper, the power electronics requirement and the controls of an induction motor for fuel cell electric vehicle system are presented. The power topology is selected based on performance, cost, size, volume, manufacturability, component count and simplicity. Another highlight of the topology is the reduction of battery bank and its control strategy. The proposed approach consists a full-bridge DC/DC converter to boost the fuel cell voltage. The induction motor operated with vector control is driven by a three-phase PWM inverter supplied by the DC-link voltage. The investigation of the electric vehicle performed due to parameter variation of the induction motor has been presented.

This paper describes the novel control techniques design of VSC(Voltage Sag Corrector) for the purpose of power line quality enhancement. A fast detecting technique of voltage sag is implemented through the detection of instantaneous value on synchronous rotating do-reference frame. The first order digital filter is added in the detection algorithm to protect the insensitive characteristics against the noise. The relationship between the total detection time and cut-off frequency of the filter is described. The size of the capacitor bank used as the energy storage element is designed from the point of view of input/output energy with circuit analysis. Finally, the validity of the proposed scheme is proven through the simulated results.

Much of previous attention on researches of the decision tree focuses on the splitting criteria and optimization of tree size. Nowadays the quantity of the data increase and relation of variables becomes very complex. And hence, this comes to have plenty number of unnecessary node and leaf. Consequently the confidence of the explanation and forecasting of the decision tree falls off. In this research report, we propose some decision tree algorithms considering the interaction of predictor variables. A generic algorithm, the k-1 Algorithm, dealing with the interaction with a combination of all predictor variable is presented. And then, the extended version k-k Algorithm which considers with the interaction every k-depth with a combination of some predictor variables. Also, we present an improved algorithm by introducing control parameter to the algorithms. The algorithms are tested by real field credit card data, census data, bank data, etc.
For stratifying skewed populations, the Lavall$\acute{e}$e-Hidiroglou(LH) algorithm is often considered to have a take-all stratum with the largest units and some take-some strata with the middle-size and small units. Related to its iterative nature have been reported some numerical difficulties such as the dependency of the ultimate stratum boundaries to a choice of initial boundaries and the slow convergence to locally-optimum boundaries. The geometric stratification has been recently proposed to provide initial boundaries that can avoid such numerical difficulties in implementing the LH algorithm. Since the geometric stratification does not pursuit the optimization but the equalization of the stratum CVs, the corresponding stratum boundaries may not be (near) optimal. This paper revisits these issues concerning convergence and near-optimality of optimal stratification algorithms using artificial numerical examples. We also discuss the formation of the strata and the sample allocation under the optimization process and some aspects related to discontinuity arisen from the finiteness of both population and sample as well.
