사출성형 특성을 고려한 2인치 도광판의 광효율 향상에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Optical Efficiency for The 2 inch LGP Considering Injection Molding Characteristics)

  • LGP is a key component of LCD back light unit because it determines brightness and sharpness of the display image. Usually, it has optical patterns fabricated on the bottom surface. These optical patterns convert point or line sources placed in the side of LGP to plane source at the top surface by changing the propagating direction of the incident light. In the present paper the LiGA-reflow method was applied to fabricate the LGP mold. Furthermore, the optical simulation considering the replication ratio of pattern height was applied to the pattern design. The optical simulation through systematic correction scheme was adopted to find the optimum distribution of pattern density. Finally, the stamper fabricated by this method was installed in the mold and LGP was produced by injection molding. As a result of luminance measurement for the final product, the average luminance and luminance uniformity was measured 3,180 nit and 84%, respectively. Consequently, the mold fabrication method using the LiGA-reflow and optical simulation(CAE) can save the expense and time compared with the existing fabrication methods(laser ablation and chemical etching).

  • In many applications for display with LED, the thermal behavior of LED is most important issue in view of thermal management. The optical requirements of the displays for various applications make the designer to drive the LED at or over their on-design condition to achieve performances requested by users. In practical cases of large-sized TV with LED back light unit (BLU), the problem of increasing LED temperature can affect the reliability of LED itself and the optical performances of BLU as an assembly of LED.   • We investigated under-gate type carbon nanotube field emitter arrays (FEAs) for back light unit (BLU) in liquid crystal display (LCD). Gate oxide was formed by wet etching of ITO coated glass substrate instead of depositing $SiO_2$ on the glass substrate. Wet etching is easer and simpler than depositing and etching of thick gate oxide to isolate the gate metal from cathode electrode in triode. Field emission characteristic s of triode structure were measured. The maximum current density of 92.5 ${\mu}A/cm^2$ was when the gate and anode voltage was 95 and 2500 V, respectively at the anode-cathode spacing of 1500 ${\mu}m$.

백라이트 유닛의 결함 검사를 위한 비전 시스템 개발 (Development of Vision system for Back Light Unit of Defect)

  • 본 연구에서는 백라이트 유닛의 검사를 위한 머신비전 시스템을 구축한다. 시스템은 크게 하드웨어와 소프트웨어로 나눌 수 있고 하드웨어는 조명부, 영상획득부, 로봇 암 제어부로 분류된다. 조명부는 36W FPL램프로 구성되었고 조명부의 상판에 아크릴판을 거치대로 이용하여 백라이트 유닛을 거치한다. 로봇 암 제어부는 2축 로봇 암을 제어하여 로봇 암의 센서부착 지지대에 부착된 CCD 센서를 이동시킨다. 이와 동시에 영상획득부에서는 이미지를 획득하여 PC로 전송한다. 소프트웨어의 화상처리 검사 알고리즘은 일정 패턴이 있는 도광판에 대한 검사 알고리즘과 일정패턴이 없근 백라이트 유닛에 대한 검사 알고리즘으로 분리된다. 일정 패턴이 인쇄되어 있는 패널에 대한 검사 알고리즘은 모폴로지 연산을 이용하는 템플릿 체크방법과 블록 매칭 방법이 사용되었고 일정패턴이 없는 유닛에 대한 검사는 개선된 Otsu 방법을 이용하여 얼룩이나 흐릿한 결함에 대한 결함을 검출하였다. 실험결과 불균일한 결함과 밝기가 일정하지 않은 결함일지라고 90% 이상의 검출율로 뛰어난 성능을 입증하였다.

Minimization of Inspection Cost in a BLU Inspection System Using a Steady-State Flow Analysis

  • In this paper, we address a problem for minimizing the number of items inspected in a back-light-unit (BLU) inspection system, which includes a K-stage inspection system, a source inspection shop, and a re-inspection shop. In order to formulate our objective, we make a steady-state flow analysis between nodes (or shops), and derive the steady-state amount of flows between nodes and defective rates by solving a nonlinear balance equation. We provide an enumeration method for determining an optimal value of K which minimizes the number of items inspected. Our methodology could be applied and extended to similar situations with slight modification.

  • In this paper, we readdress the optimization problem for minimizing the inspection cost in a back-light unit inspection system, which forms a network including a K-stage inspection system, a source inspection shop, and a re-inspection shop. In order to formulate our objective function when the system is in a steady state, assuming that the number of nonconforming items in a lot follows a binomial distribution when a lot is formed for inspection, we make a steady-state network flow analysis between shops, and derive the steady-state amount of flows between nodes and the steady-state fraction defectives by solving a nonlinear balance equation. Finally we provide some fundamental properties and an enumeration method for determining an optimal value of K which minimizes our objective function. In addition, we compare our results numerically with previous ones.

  • 현재 TFT-LCD(Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display)에 사용되는 BLU(Back Light Unit) 패턴 크기는 수 십 ${\mu}m$인데 반해, 최근에는 BLU 패턴의 크기를 수 ${\mu}m$ 또는 그 이하로 조절함으로써 출력광의 휘도를 증가시키고 균일도를 향상시키고자 하는 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 패턴의 크기, 분포 및 점유 면적이 출력광의 분포에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다.

  • We have demonstrated Carbon Nanotube Back Light Unit (CNT-BLU) which has a triode structure. Local dimming scheme was introduced to the BLU driving system. With this driving method, contrast ratio enhanced 20 times higher than that of conventional Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL) BLU.

  • In comparison with CCFL, LED can have more various colours. The research into BLU to raise colour reproducibility is actively proceeding by using RGB LED. On this study, Direct BLU was designed by white LED and RGB LED. According to the result of the experiment, the colour uniformity degree of BLU model using white LED is better than RGB LED BLU. On the other hand, the colour reproducibility of RGB LED BLU is better than white LED. The research showed that the uniformity of white LED is 81.7%and RGB LED is 70.01%.

  • A light-guide is one of several important components of backlight unit in TFT-LCD. The manufacturing technology and optical system design of the light guide is very sensitive to quality and cost of the TFT-LCD module. In the present study a new manufacturing method which is called as direct surface forming(DSF) has been tested under various conditions. DSF is very similar to the well-known hot embossing except for partial contact between mold and substrate. The final V-groove pattern shows different shapes depend on the temperature of mold surface, contact time of mold and depth of V-groove.
