  • In this paper, we obtain the general solution and the stability of the cubic functional equation f(2x + y, 2z + w) + f(2x - y, 2z - w) = 2f(x + y, z + w) + 2f(x - y, z - w) + 12f(x, z). The cubic form $f(x,\;y)\;=\;ax^3\;+\;bx^2y\;+\;cxy^2\;+\;dy^3$ is a solution of the above functional equation.

  • In the work we generate arithmetic matrix P(c,b,a) of (cx2 + bx+a)n from a Pascal matrix P(1,1). We extend an identity P(1,1))O(1,1) = P(1,1,1) with an obtuse matrix O(1,1) to k degree polynomials. For the purpose we study P(1,1)kO(1,1) and find generating polynomials of O(1,1)k.

착즙전처리가 배 과즙의 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Pre-pressing Condition on Quality of Pear Juice)

  • 착즙전처리가 배즙의 품질에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위하여 가열배즙(HPP), 데치기한 후 착즙된 배즙(BPP), 냉동 후 해동하여 착즙한 배즙(TPP)의 품질을 생배즙(Control)과 비교하였다. HPP는 수율과 당도에서 각각 78%, $15^{\circ}Bx$로 타 처리구에 비해 높은 값을 나타냈고, 각 처리구별 주요 당 및 유기산은 처리구별 차이가 없이 과당과 사과산이었다. 무기질의 경우 그 함량이 많은 것은 K, P, Mg 순이었고, Na와 Fe도 소량 검출되었다. 색도는 HPP가 가공중 낮은 L값과 높은 a값을 보였으며, 맛에서는 타처리구에 비해 HPP가 가장 우수한 기호도를 나타내었다. 따라서, HPP의 풍미가 좀 더 개선된다면 새로운 양질의 가공음료의 개발이 가능하리라 생각된다.

Development of Automatic Peach Grading System using NIR Spectroscopy

  • The existing fruit sorter has the method of tilting tray and extracting fruits by the action of solenoid or springs. In peaches, the most sort processing is supported by man because the sorter make fatal damage to peaches. In order to sustain commodity and quality of peach non-destructive, non-contact and real time based sorter was needed. This study was performed to develop peach sorter using near-infrared spectroscopy in real time and nondestructively. The prototype was developed to decrease internal and external damage of peach caused by the sorter, which had a way of extracting tray with it. To decrease positioning error of measuring sugar contents in peaches, fiber optic with two direction diverged was developed and attached to the prototype. The program for sorting and operating the prototype was developed using visual basic 6.0 language to measure several quality index such as chlorophyll, some defect, sugar contents. The all sorting result was saved to return farmers for being index of good quality production. Using the prototype, program and MLR(multiple linear regression) model, it was possible to estimate sugar content of peaches with the determination coefficient of 0.71 and SEC of 0.42bx using 16 wavelengths. The developed MLR model had determination coefficient of 0.69, and SEP of 0.49bx, it was better result than single point measurement of 1999's. The peach sweetness grading system based on NIR reflectance method, which consists of photodiode-array sensor, quartz-halogen lamp and fiber optic diverged two bundles for transmitting the light and detecting the reflected light, was developed and evaluated. It was possible to predict the soluble solid contents of peaches in real time and nondestructively using the system which had the accuracy of 91 percentage and the capacity of 7,200 peaches per an hour for grading 2 classes by sugar contents. Draining is one of important factors for production peaches having good qualities. The reason why one farm's product belows others could be estimated for bad draining, over-much nitrogen fertilizer, soil characteristics, etc. After this, the report saved by the peach grading system will have to be good materials to farmers for production high quality peaches. They could share the result or compare with others and diagnose their cultural practice.

파인애플 첨가 막걸리의 품질특성 (Quality Characteristics of Makgeolli Supplemented with Pineapple)

  • 파인애플 과육과 심지를 첨가하여 막걸리를 제조하고 품질특성을 분석하였다. 발효기간 동안 pH, $^{\circ}Bx$의 측정값과 발효 후 알코올의 함량은 샘플들 간에 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 파인애플을 첨가한 막걸리의 총산도 값은 대조구에 비해 높았으며 특히 citric acid, tartaric acid, malic acid, pyroglutamic acid, lactic acid, propionic acid의 함량이 높았다. 반면 총 유리아미노산의 함량은 대조구에서 더 높았으며, methionine을 제외한 aspartic acid, serine, threonine, alanine, tryptophan, lysine 등의 유리아미노산 함량은 파인애플을 첨가하지 않은 막걸리에서 더 높게 측정되었다. 관능평가에서는 파인애플 막걸리가 대조구보다 색도를 제외하고 향, 맛, 전체적인 기호도에서 높은 값을 보였다.

Changes in Quality Characteristics of Commercial Milk with Different Physical Treatments during Storage

  • In this study, the fatty acid content and quality characteristics of the massless enegy treated commercial milk products stored at $30^{\circ}C$ were investigated. The pH of pasteurized milk decreased significantly. UHT milk showed also significant decrease in pH to 4.70~5.72 on the 8th day of storage which was higher than control even there was no significant differences. The acidity of pasteurized milk decreased significantly from the 2nd day of storage to 0.13~0.65% in treatments and control and control was 0.94% at the 8th day of storage and 0.35% in the treatment of ultra high temperature milk. The solid content of pasteurized milk was $7.5^{\circ}Bx$ at 1 day after storage, which showed significant differences from the $11.2^{\circ}Bx$ in the treatment. Pasteurized milk showed more bacterial growth in the treatment than in the control. After 4 days of storage, there was no bacterial count in pasteurized milk but it increased significantly $1.9{\times}10^8$ and $4.5{\times}10^6$ each in UHT milk. Lactic acid bacteria were detected in the curd $2.0{\times}10^6$ in the control and $2.0{\times}10^8$ in the treatment at the 4th day. Palmitic acid content in the saturated fatty acid was the highest at 35.4~41.4% in both pasteurized and ultra high temperature milk. In the UHT milk, linolenic acid was significantly increased to 3.8% in the treatment compared with 2.9% in the control at the 4th day of storage. Therefore, commercial ultra high temperature milk with physical treatment to increase beneficial bacteria showed significant difference compared to the control after 5 days of storage in this experiment.

Gossypol Induces Apoptosis of Human Pancreatic Cancer Cells via CHOP/Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress Signaling Pathway

  • Gossypol, a natural phenolic aldehyde present in cotton plants, was originally used as a means of contraception, but is currently being studied for its anti-proliferative and anti-metastatic effects on various cancers. However, the intracellular mechanism of action regarding the effects of gossypol on pancreatic cancer cells remains unclear. Here, we investigated the anti-cancer effects of gossypol on human pancreatic cancer cells (BxPC-3 and MIA PaCa-2). Cell counting kit-8 assays, annexin V/propidium iodide staining assays, and transmission electron microscopy showed that gossypol induced apoptotic cell death and apoptotic body formation in both cell lines. RNA sequencing analysis also showed that gossypol increased the mRNA levels of CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein homologous protein (CHOP) and activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3) in pancreatic cancer cell lines. In addition, gossypol facilitated the cleavage of caspase-3 via protein kinase RNA-like ER kinase (PERK), CHOP, and Bax/Bcl-2 upregulation in both cells, whereas the upregulation of ATF was limited to BxPC-3 cells. Finally, a three-dimensional culture experiment confirmed the successful suppression of cancer cell spheroids via gossypol treatment. Taken together, our data suggest that gossypol may trigger apoptosis in pancreatic cancer cells via the PERK-CHOP signaling pathway. These findings propose a promising therapeutic approach to pancreatic cancer treatment using gossypol.

양극성 I형 장애 환자와 발병하지 않은 일차 친족에서 인지조절의 비교 (Comparison of Cognitive Controls in Patients with Bipolar I Disorder and Their Unaffected First-Degree Relatives)

  • Objectives This study intended to identify the deficits of cognitive control among patients with bipolar I disorder and their first-degree relatives, and identify the possibility of cognitive control as an endophenotype of bipolar disorder. Methods The study included three groups: euthymic states patients with bipolar I disorder (n = 55), unaffected first-degree relatives of probands with bipolar I disorder (n = 30), and a healthy control group (n = 51), that was matched on age, sex, and years of education. The AX version of the continuous performance test (CPT) was used to examine cognitive control. Error rate, correct response times of each subsets (AX, BX, AY, BY), and d' as an indication of accuracy sensitivity index were calculated. Psychopathology, intelligence, and psychomotor speed were also assessed. Results Patients with bipolar I disorder showed significantly worse error rates in the AX (p = 0.01) and BX (p = 0.02) subsets and d' (p = 0.05) than the others. They also showed more delayed correct response times than the healthy control group and first-degree relatives in all subsets (p < 0.01). But first-degree relatives showed neither high error rates nor delayed correct response times than healthy control group. Conclusions These findings suggest that cognitive control is impaired in bipolar I disorder but less likely to be an endophynotype of bipolar I disorder.
