  • The purpose of the present study is to suggest the strategy for interoperability between BIM and GIS. For this, we analyzed the interoperability issue including the neutral information model such as CityGML, LandXML, IFC and identified the structure differences as the viewpoint of use-case, object, geometry, property by using UML(Unified Modeling Langauge) and reverse engineering. To solve the interoperability problem between BIM and GIS model which is the neutral GIS format, We proposed the consideration including converter, information mapping filter based on ontology dictionary, automation by using API.

  • Building information modeling refers to combination or set of technologies and organizational solutions that are expected to increase collaboration in the construction industry and to improve the productivity and quality of the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings. For enhanced communication among project participants, various information which BIM model usually includes is provided, furthermore data which contain exchange of unstructured information is needed. If the extension of BIM standard file format for practical use of design Issue information about collaborative design process is fulfilled, the productivity and quality of design will be improved.

  • The domestic construction industry recognize that review of design and construct-ability has the devastating effects. The way to take advantage of BIM for increase the possibility of discovered the design errors in advance are being discussed a lot recently. Since 2012, Public procurement published that the Turn-key project which is the more than 50 billion won in construction have to let the BIM-based design be mandatory. However, people expected the advent of BIM technology can resolve the existing design errors. But the situation is the connection of design stage and construction stage is very insufficient in domestic. Therefore, in this study understanding the types of design errors in construction phase. according the review of design errors before construction. Then can acceleration the application of BIM to improve the workability in a construction site.

  • While BIM software becomes popular for CAAD and architectural design educations, the affordance of BIM for students' architectural idea developments, called intra-process of communication, is still unknown. Therefore, this study conducted t-test quantitative analysis in order to the scores for feedback, idea productivity, idea development for architectural elements(form, interior space, material, and details), and creative motivation(novelty, appropriateness) using BIM and non-BIM 3D modeler. To achieve the goal, in authentic CAAD class, architecture major students proposed two office designs using those two tools, then they evaluated in which ways those tools influenced their idea developments.

  • This study aims to develop a sort of expert system to simulate Internet of Things (IoT) service in architectural design alternatives and enhance the simulation performance using building information. The proposed protype system, named iotBIM, visualizes human behaviors and IoT services in a virtual place that is automatically generated from among design alternatives. We use commercial building information modeling (BIM) authoring tool for the development of iotBIM. The decision to develop iotBIM on the BIM platform was made because BIM tools already generate precise 3D models of design alternatives; iotBIM is plugged into the BIM tool as a simulation module. In the midst of the design process, architectural designers can activate iotBIM to investigate and establish IoT services that accord visually with design alternatives. The purpose of this study is to provide a theoretical and technological basis for the ultimate goal of this study.

  • Recently, interest in Building Information Modeling (BIM) has increased globally, and 3D modeling is a start for the application of BIM at construction sites. However, while many studies have been conducted on the efficiency of 3D modeling focused on civil facilities, there is a lack of research on the earthwork BIM. In particular, since 3D slope often has complex shapes depending on the ground models, the efficiency method for 3D slope are needed. This study analyzed the interfaces and procedures of other software to find out what functions users need. Then the functions to enter intervals between 3D faces, select multiple ground models, and improve the interface are reflected on the developed system and is able to efficiently perform modeling with only five steps, and reduce the number of clicks and inputs. As a result of conducting the test to verify the efficiency, using the developed system made skilled users complete modeling at least 1.8 times faster and unskilled people at least 2.4 times faster than using other software. This is expected to perform 3D slope modeling more efficiently, as well as to contribute to the activation of future BIM adoption for housing construction projects.

  • In the Chinese construction industry, the utilization of Building Information Modeling (BIM) aims to increase the total output of the construction industry by solving the problem of inefficient interoperability in the construction industry. In 2011, the Chinese Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development despite the technical advantages of BIM and the government policy, the BIM adoption rate in China is lower than 45%. Meanwhile, as the South Korean construction industry is a step ahead of its Chinese counterpart in introducing and utilizing BIM, it is expected that BIM is more actively utilized and accepted in South Korea than in China. According to a comparative study based on the hype-cycle theory, South Korea is at a more advanced stage of introducing BIM, than in China. This study aimed to suggest how to increase BIM utilization rates in China. To this end, this study comparatively analyzed factors affecting BIM acceptance between China and South Korea. For the comparative analysis of the BIM acceptance factors between China and South Korea, literature reviews on the technology acceptance model (TAM) and BIM acceptance model were carried out, and based on that, the BIM acceptance factors were classified. Other BIM acceptance factors were also added and considered, as they reflected Chinese national characteristics and construction industry. As for the derived BIM acceptance factors, construction project participants, especially actual BIM users in China and South Korea, were targeted for the survey. A t-test using SPSS 22.00 was carried out to identify significant differences in data. Finally, based on the t-test results, this study suggested ways of improving the BIM utilization rate in China. Based on the findings, this study is expected to contribute to activating BIM adoption in the Chinese construction industry and also to set a theoretical foundation for future studies on BIM utilization in the industry.

  • The establishment of a complete geological model that includes information about all the various components at a site (such as underground structures and the compositions of rock and soil underground space) is difficult, and geological modeling is a developing field. This study uses commercial software for the relatively easy composition of geological models. Our digital modeling process integrates a model of Jeju Island's 3D geological information, models of cave shapes, and information on the state of a road at the site's upper surface. Among the numerous natural caves that exist in Jeju Island, we studied the Jaeamcheon lava tube near Hallim town, and the selected site lies below a road. We developed a digital model by applying the principles of building information modeling (BIM) to the cave (CaveBIM). The digital model was compiled through gathering and integrating specific data: relevant processes include modeling the cave's shape using a laser scanner, 3D geological modeling using geological information and geophysical exploration data, and modeling the surrounding area using drones. This study developed a global-scale model of the Hallim region and a local-scale model of the Jaeamcheon cave. Cross-validation was performed when constructing the LSM, and the results were compared and analyzed.
